Chapter 512: Chapter 5: Excuse Me, I Breached the Contract

"Yes, My Lord!"

At Lin Yu’s command, Dong Lin stepped in front of him.

He slammed his hands together. Frost energy erupted from his body, coalescing into a full suit of Frost Armor. At the same time, a pair of Frost Gauntlets materialized over his hands.

"Ice Crystal Burst!"

Dong Lin bellowed. An orb of ice rapidly formed in the midst of the men in black and then violently exploded, sending countless ice crystals scattering in every direction.

The men in black reacted instantly. The moment the ice orb appeared, they formed an array as red energy surged from their bodies.

Channeled by the array, their energies merged to form an Energy Barrier before them.

Due to their formation, only a few of the scattered crystals flew toward them, and the Energy Barrier condensed by the array easily blocked the attack.

A significant number of crystals shot back toward Dong Lin himself. With a mere thought, he converted them back into Spiritual Energy and absorbed them.

’They’re well-trained and have an array that pools their strength. They don’t look like any debt collection company I’ve ever seen.’

Lin Yu grew more certain that this group was specifically targeting him. The faction behind them was likely quite powerful.

Dong Lin realized that his weaker area attacks were ineffective, while a stronger one would instantly freeze the men in black solid. So, he charged forward, gauntlets at the ready.

The men in black met his charge, maintaining their formation. Their array was intricate and their coordination seamless. With his companions creating diversions, they managed to dodge every one of Dong Lin’s basic attacks.

After dodging his attacks, they would look for an opening to counterattack. However, they stopped trying to land hits after a single successful attempt.

The reason was simple: that one attack had instantly encased the attacker’s hand in a block of ice, rendering him combat-ineffective.

After adjusting their strategy, the group, empowered by their array, actually managed to hold their own against Dong Lin—in a manner of speaking. It was more that Dong Lin kept attacking while the men in black continuously dodged.

Nevertheless, the tide of battle was still slowly turning in Dong Lin’s favor.

Every one of Dong Lin’s punches was accompanied by a gale of intense cold. Though the men in black weren’t taking direct hits, the biting chill in the wind gradually seeped into their bodies, causing their movements to grow sluggish.

Their evasive maneuvers, once fluid and effortless, were slowly becoming clumsy and desperate.

...

"Oh, right. Hey, you—"

Lin Yu frowned as he watched the drawn-out fight, then turned and called over a staff member from the service hall.

"Mr. Lin, how may I help you?"

"I have a question. In a situation like this, am I allowed to kill them?" Lin Yu asked, pointing to the men in black.

He made no effort to lower his voice, and the men in black heard him clearly. Beads of sweat instantly broke out on their foreheads, only to freeze into tiny pellets of ice in the frigid wind and scatter across the floor.

"Mr. Lin, according to the Public Security Regulations for the Extraordinary, they have not yet infringed upon your personal safety. If you were to kill them, it would be classified as the deliberate murder of Extraordinary People."

"He’s the one fighting, so how can that be pinned on me?" Lin Yu retorted, gesturing toward Dong Lin.

"Mr. Lin, it is very easy to determine whether your subordinate is an independent individual or a summoned being. The Empire has specialized instruments for this purpose, and there has never been a case of misidentification."

Lin Yu pursed his lips and waved the staff member away.

Just as the staff member was turning to step aside, Lin Yu grabbed his arm again. "Wait, I seem to recall that as long as it isn’t the *deliberate* murder of Extraordinary People, you can pay a fine to commute the sentence, right?"

"That is correct, Mr. Lin. Because Extraordinary People often engage in various duels and competitions, it’s inevitable that things sometimes get out of hand. Therefore, in cases that are not deemed deliberate murder, the crime can be commuted with points."

"How many points?"

"From ten thousand to one hundred thousand points, depending on the severity."

"Alright, thanks!"

Lin Yu let the staff member step back and began calculating silently.

’A maximum of a hundred thousand points? That’s equivalent to one billion credits. There are twenty people here, so that’s only twenty billion credits, or two million points total. What a bargain.’

"Dong Lin!"

"Mr. Lin, please wait!"

Lin Yu was about to give Dong Lin his next order when the staff member’s voice cut him off.

"Hm?"

Lin Yu looked over at the staff member, who trotted to his side and advised, "Mr. Lin, as it stands, this conflict can only be considered an economic dispute."

"If your summoned subordinate threatens their lives, then they will be justified in threatening yours."

"I see! What’s your name?"

"My name is Qiu Xuan, Mr. Lin."

"You should get to safety. Thanks for the heads-up."

"Of course, Mr. Lin."

Once Qiu Xuan had moved to safety, Lin Yu shouted again, "Dong Lin, come back!"

Upon hearing Lin Yu’s command, Dong Lin, still in the thick of the fight, erupted with a powerful aura of frost. A freezing whirlwind blasted outward, and the stone-faced men in black braced for the impact.

However, though the whirlwind looked ferocious, it carried a yielding force. It simply blew them off their feet and sent them tumbling into the surrounding walls.

Dong Lin then returned to Lin Yu’s side.

He scratched his head, looking troubled. "My Lord, these guys are slippery. It’s pretty difficult to just break their arms and legs without mortally wounding them."

As the territory’s sole Epic Hero, killing these Extraordinary Beings—who were merely at the Excellent grade—would have been a simple matter for him.

But Dong Lin was accustomed to a bold, overwhelming fighting style. To restrain himself enough to only break their limbs without killing them was, for him, a difficult task.
