Chapter 503: Chapter 333: Fireworks Filling the Sky (5)
Zhuang Ya frowned and pointed ahead.
“I heard a lot of muffled sounds. They seemed very far away, but I’ve looked everywhere and haven’t spotted any enemies at all.”
“Muffled sounds, and very far away?” Gu Qing pondered her words. Gu Qing had also heard some commotion, but it was very faint. Looking up, there were only flying birds and tree branches; there was nothing in the sky either.
“Yes.” Zhuang Ya frowned, listening carefully. “It feels like the sound is being blocked by something. I can’t hear it clearly, nor can I pinpoint its exact location.”
Zhao Chi said, “It’s fine. Everyone, stay alert! We’ll be able to see the situation ahead once we rush out of this forest. Full speed ahead!”
“Yes, sir!”
Before long, the group rushed out of the forest. An expansive clearing lay before them, covered only by a carpet of lush green grass. Where were the Magical Beasts? Everyone looked around.
Zhao Chi suddenly remembered the Cannibal Mage they had encountered previously. Gu Qing thought of the same thing and quickly warned, “Sir, do you remember that the Cannibal Mage could turn invisible? Could it be another Magical Beast with invisibility?”
Zhao Chi shook his head. “I’m not sure. That Cannibal Mage shouldn’t be considered a Basic Level Magical Beast. Logically, it shouldn’t have been assigned here. It might be some Other Magical Beast capable of invisibility. Su Qin, have you discovered anything?”
Su Qin also shook her head. “I have no clue either. Let’s form up our formation first, just in case of an enemy ambush.”
Zhao Chi shook his head again. “There’s no need for that just yet. Everyone, quiet down immediately! Do not move! Do not speak! Listen carefully to the sounds around us, and closely observe the light and shadows in our vicinity!”
The moment the order was given, everyone quickly halted in place. The Female Elves opened their narrowed eyes and perked up their long ears, earnestly picking up on all the surrounding activity. The Female Soldiers also focused their attention, staring at anything suspicious in the vicinity.
It was completely quiet around them, save for the sound of the wind. Suddenly, Zhuang Ya turned to look at the forest. There was nothing there. She immediately dropped to the ground, pressing her ear flat against the earth, paying no mind to the dirt. Barely a moment after lying down, she leaped back up. “Everyone, scatter! They’re right beneath us!”
As soon as she spoke, a dark silhouette burst out of the ground, charging straight at Zhuang Ya.
CLANG CLANG CLANG!
Three crisp sounds rang out, and several deep scratch marks appeared on Zhuang Ya’s Iron Armor. Before the crowd could even react, the dark silhouette had already burrowed back into the dirt and disappeared. All that remained was brown dirt scattered on the green grass, along with a tunnel hole.
“A rat-man!” Zhao Chi shouted. Although its figure was incredibly fast, Zhao Chi had still managed to catch a glimpse of its features during that fleeting Time.
“Everyone scatter, and watch out for Attacks from underground!” Zhao Chi swiftly ordered.
Su Qin immediately pointed at the trees behind them and yelled, “Get into the trees and stay on guard!”
SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH!
SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH!
As the two issued their commands, mounds of dirt began to bulge across the ground. Dark silhouettes burrowed out one after another. Massive amounts of sand and dirt were kicked up, scattering everywhere in a chaotic flurry. It was worse than a sandstorm. The large particles of damp soil made it difficult for everyone to keep their eyes open. A strong, earthy stench filled the air, mixed with a stifling, damp foulness.
The ground beneath Zhao Chi’s feet also bulged and split open. He was very familiar with this scene; he saw it every day. What should have followed was a pair of pale arms bursting from the earth, then a beautiful face and a perfect figure. However, what emerged instead was a dirt-covered rat face dotted with gray fur. At the front were giant rat teeth, flanked by sharp rat claws. Zhao Chi pressed his Shield down to block the assault, continuing to issue orders. “Counterattack head-on!”
Immediately after, the Shield took a heavy blow, and several ear-piercing scratching sounds rang out from its surface. The next moment, the rat-man landed and burrowed into the dirt.
“Where do you think you’re going!” Zhao Chi thrust his finger out.
The sky flashed, and Thunder struck down.
CRACKLE!
“SQUEAK! SQUEAK SQUEAK—!”
That rat-man shrieked as it burrowed deep into the earth. It seemed it wasn’t dead. The Damage from the Thunder wasn’t stable.
At the same time, the varying cries of the women rang out, accompanied by plenty of miserable shrieks from the rat-men. Purple light scattered. Tang Ruan underwent a massive Consumption of her Spiritual Power, draining more than half of it in a single breath. After a large number of rat-men finished their first Attack, they didn’t burrow back into the dirt. Instead, they let out bizarre screeches and charged at Tang Ruan, scratching and clawing in a Frenzy. She was completely overwhelmed by the rat-men. Yet, she remained standing in her original spot without moving a single step. However, the tip of her Spear was already glowing.
“It is True that you little rats are noisy! Watch my Spear! Thrust!”
SWISH!
SQUELCH! SQUELCH! SQUELCH!
Tang Ruan’s Body rapidly charged forward, knocking away over a dozen rat-men. Blood dripped from the tip of the Spear. Three rat-men suffered a Piercing blow, hanging in a row on the Steel Spear. The rat-men were scattered, but they screeched and swarmed back to surround her once more.
Tang Ruan smiled. “Very good. Let’s go again. Thrust!”
Another skewer of rat-men appeared.
Qi Yue did not use her Moon Blade Slash. This Skill was too prone to causing friendly fire in a crowd. Her Ordinary Attack was completely sufficient to deal with these rat-men—one slash per rat-man, or even multiple rat-men with a single strike. As the rat-men burst out of the ground, Qi Yue lightly tapped her toes against the earth, quickly dodging.
“Continuous Dance!”
The long Phoenix Cry Saber swung out, carrying the sound of tearing through the air.
SQUELCH SQUELCH!
Two rat-men were cleaved in two by Qi Yue while still in midair. The blade didn’t stop, slicing through two more. When the third strike came down, three more died. A single Continuous Dance slaughtered seven rat-men. Qi Yue narrowed her eyes and raised her blade to swing again, causing blood to splatter incessantly.
Red threads filled the sky. White threads crisscrossed. Yellow Silk shot out violently. Gu Qing spread her hands wide, and a massive amount of red Silk Thread surged out, sticking to everyone indiscriminately, friend or foe. Although everyone around her would be restricted, our personnel could still receive the Treatment Effect from the Silk Thread, whereas the enemies would only be restricted.
SWISH SWISH SWISH…!
Dozens of rat-men burrowed into the dirt, but they were entangled and dragged by the red Silk Thread, making it incredibly difficult for them to escape deep underground.
Her red lips parted slightly.
THWIP THWIP THWIP!
Several rat-men were stuck fast by the white threads, completely unable to break free, looking like dogs leashed by Gu Qing.
