Global PvP Tower: I Can Infinitely Merge My Units

Chapter 26: Legendary Dungeon Boss

The climb took the better part of ten minutes, narrow enough in places that even Zephyr had to fold her wings tight to fit through.

Daylight turned out to be a lie.

What waited at the top wasn’t open sky at all, just a massive chamber lit by veins of pale crystal running through a domed ceiling far overhead. The light down here did a convincing enough impression of daylight to fool anyone climbing toward it blind.

The walls were lined with alcoves, dozens of them, each one holding something that had clearly mattered to somebody once.

Broken pedestals. Empty frames where something valuable had obviously been pried loose. A few alcoves still held their prizes, untouched, like whatever had happened here hadn’t gotten around to finishing the job.

One alcove near the entrance held something different from the rest, a proper chest instead of an open pedestal, its lid carved with a sunburst pattern worn dull with age.

Logan checked it twice for teeth before he touched it. Nothing. Just a latch, stiff with disuse, that gave after a firm push.

Inside, wrapped in cloth that crumbled the moment he touched it, sat a rolled scroll and a small ring.

```
[ Blueprint Acquired: Mounted Solar Beam Cannon (Tier-1/Legendary) ]
[ Ringband of Focus (Tier-1/Rare) Acquired. +10% Skill Effect. ]
```

Logan stared at the blueprint a long moment. A Legendary-rank weapon he could actually build, not just find. That alone was worth the whole climb up here.

He slid the ring onto his good hand, small enough to fit even his smallest finger, and felt something settle behind his eyes, like a lens clicking into focus.

Then the center of the chamber moved.

At the center of the chamber, something knelt on a raised dais, perfectly still. It was built from six different kinds of ruin, stitched together into one shape.

Root and bark made up one arm. Crystal made up the other, faceted and sharp. Its chest was scaled and wet like something pulled straight out of black water, and its head was a knot of stars burning cold behind a face that had no real features. Wings of shadow hung folded at its back, and something like wind was already stirring the dust around its feet even though nothing in the chamber was moving.

```
[ The Sundered Warden - Legendary Dungeon Boss ]
Level: 10
Rank: Legendary
```

It opened its eyes it didn’t have a heartbeat before Logan’s own instincts screamed at him to move.

’Safe Haven.’

```
[ Safe Haven activated ]
Barrier Durability: 2000
```

The Warden didn’t stand. It simply extended, roots and crystal and wind all reaching out from a single point at once, six different kinds of violence arriving from six different directions in the same half second.

Sixfold Ruin!

Logan’s barrier caught most of it. Even shielded, he felt six different kinds of pressure hit the shimmering wall at once, ice and heat and crushing weight and starlight and grasping dark and screaming wind all trying to get through in the same half second.

Thistle moved first, roots answering roots. Bloomstrike drove a spear of hardened wood straight into the Warden’s bark-covered arm, and for a moment the two of them looked less like enemies and more like two trees fighting over the same patch of sunlight.

Shard caught the crystal arm’s answering swing on his own fist. Where a normal hit would have hurt, this one just fed him, new facets blooming across his knuckles where the impact landed.

Tide sank low, and the water making up the Warden’s chest seemed to hesitate. It went suddenly heavier than it wanted to be, dragged down by pressure it hadn’t asked for.

Nova stepped into the light pouring off the Warden’s star-knot head and simply drank it, the glow banking brighter across his own chest with every second the Warden kept burning.

Maw went for the shadow wings before they could unfold all the way, and a piece of them simply stopped existing, swallowed whole.

Zephyr matched the wind at the Warden’s feet current for current, and whatever advantage the Warden had been building there died in the fight for control.

For a long moment, nothing gave. Six kinds of power straining against six more, evenly matched enough that the whole chamber seemed to hold its breath waiting to see which side would crack first.

Then the Warden’s head snapped toward Nova, and the star-light banked inside him suddenly wasn’t enough to keep up with what came pouring out to answer it.

Nova staggered, the glow along his frame flickering low, dimmer than it had been since they’d found him.

’Restore.’

```
```

The glow steadied, banked light climbing back up where it had guttered.

That was the opening the rest of them needed.

With the Warden’s attention pulled toward Nova, five other pressures it had been fighting off in balance suddenly weren’t balanced anymore.

Thistle’s roots drove deep enough to reach something that mattered. Shard’s crystal fist found a seam and didn’t stop. Tide’s pressure finally cracked the water-chest wide open. Maw’s bite closed around what was left of the shadow wing and didn’t let go. Zephyr’s wind tore through the legs at the base and put the whole thing off balance for good.

The Sundered Warden came apart the way it had been built, six pieces falling away from each other with nothing left holding the center together.

```
The alcoves that still held their prizes gave up what was left once the Warden stopped protecting them.
Most of it Logan didn’t recognize, old coins and jewelry gone strange with age, a few loose gems, nothing that jumped out at him the way real loot usually did.
He looked over his new roster, six Mythic-rank units standing in the wreckage of something that had needed every one of them to put it down.
’Too bad I can only take back three cards with me. The rest will disappear.’ Logan sighed. "Good job, buddies. You all did great. But we are just getting started."
