Global PvP Tower: I Can Infinitely Merge My Units
Chapter 97: Dark Fall Conquest (3), Sword Intent Progress
Further along the ring of towers, the Emberleaf twins handled theirs without a single wasted word between them, twin arrows loosed in perfect unison from opposite ends of their tower’s platform.
```
[ Twin Star Archer (Mythic) ]
Talent: Mirrorsong Resonance (Mythic)
```
The shots met at the Herald’s center mass, resonance doubling the force of both on impact, and it dropped in a single exchange neither twin had bothered to react to.
Sylvana lowered her bow without expression. "Efficient."
Corvin nodded once, already scanning the treeline for whatever came next.
```
[ Wave 15 cleared across all towers. ]
```
---
Waves sixteen through nineteen came harder and faster than anything before them, the forest itself seeming to empty out a little more with every passing minute.
Sixteen brought basilisk broodlings, squat and low. Their gazes stacked a slow, creeping numbness into anything that held eye contact too long.
Logan learned that lesson at the cost of a sluggish left arm for the better part of a minute, and Alice didn’t let him forget it.
"Eyes on the ground next time." She’d already put three arrows through the offending creature’s skull by the time feeling returned to his fingers. "Or eyes on me. I’m prettier anyway."
"Noted." He rolled his shoulder, testing the last of the stiffness out of it, grinning despite himself.
Seventeen split the herd between fire and frost, cinderhide brutes and frostmarrow behemoths advancing from opposite ends of the treeline in a pincer neither of them had expected.
The ice slowed footing wherever it touched, and the fire spread through dry brush fast enough that Logan found himself fighting the terrain almost as much as the monsters themselves.
Alice adapted first, Comet Step carrying her clear of a frozen patch before it could lock her boots in place, three arrows already airborne toward the nearest brute’s exposed core.
’She reads terrain faster than I do.’ Logan filed the thought away without slowing his swing, genuine respect threading through the observation. ’Good instincts.’
Eighteen brought a second Field Commander per tower, bigger and meaner than the one from wave eight, buffing everything around it with a standing aura that made every lesser monster hit noticeably harder.
Logan tracked the aura’s source through Sword Intent before Alice had even finished nocking her first arrow, a thin, near-invisible thread connecting the commander to every buffed creature on the field.
’Cut the source, not the effect.’ He blinked in close on Reaper’s Stride, Severed Step dropping the commander’s footing before it registered the attack at all.
The aura died with it, and the rest of the wave fell apart within seconds without the buff propping it up.
Nineteen came quiet by comparison, a storm of ranged casters lobbing homing bolts from well beyond the treeline. It forced both of them into constant, restless movement just to stay ahead of the tracking.
Something vast stirred in the deep dark beyond the casters the entire time, visible only as a shape too large to belong to anything the first nineteen waves had thrown at them.
It moved patient and unhurried, and the hair on the back of Logan’s neck kept standing up no matter how many times he told himself it wasn’t close yet.
"Twentieth wave’s going to be ugly." Alice said it plainly, watching the same shape shift somewhere in the distance. "Feels like the whole forest’s been building toward it."
"Good." Logan rolled his shoulders, Grimlord’s Blade settling comfortable in his grip. "I’ve got something I want to try on it."
```
[ Wave 19 cleared. ]
```
---
```
[ Wave 20: Incoming. Legendary-rank Warden per tower. ]
```
It came out of the treeline slow and deliberate, nothing about its pace suggesting it needed to hurry for anything.
```
[ Duskbound Warden ]
Legendary | Level 40
```
Armor plating covered most of its frame, dull black and pitted like it had survived a hundred years underground, one arm fused entirely into a slab of obsidian shaped into a greatblade too large for any human grip.
A ring of dark sigils circled it at chest height, rotating slow and constant, humming with a pressure that pushed back against anything trying to get close.
"That’s a proper wall." Alice’s eyes narrowed, already tracking the sigil ring’s rotation. "Arrows are going to bounce off that all day."
"Then I’ll go through it instead." Logan’s grip tightened on Grimlord’s Blade, memory pulling back three days on a mountain and five techniques he’d barely begun to earn.
He tried the obvious approach first anyway, Overgrim Slash meeting the sigil ring head on, and the dark arc simply dissolved against it without leaving so much as a scratch.
The Warden answered with its greatblade, a downward cut heavy enough to crack the platform floor when Logan barely cleared it with Reaper’s Stride.
"Arrows aren’t working either!" Alice’s shots scattered harmlessly off the ward from twenty feet up, frustration sharpening her voice. "It’s not even flinching!"
Logan reset his stance, breathing slow, Rishin’s voice surfacing clean in his memory. What is holding it together? Then cut that.
His eyes caught it a moment later, threading through the ward’s structure with a patience he hadn’t managed back on that mountain. The sigils weren’t a shield stopping damage from outside.
They were a formation, holding something together from within. Exactly the kind of connection the third technique had been built for.
’Heaven-Splitting Line.’ He drew back, blade angled flat, and let three days of failed attempts finally settle into something whole.
The wave of force that left his blade wasn’t a thin ripple this time. It was the same clean, boulder-splitting arc Rishin had summoned so easily on that mountain.
It crossed the gap between Logan and the Warden without losing a fraction of its shape.
The sigil ring shattered outward in a spray of dying light, and for one full second, the Warden simply stood there exposed.
"Now!" Alice’s voice cracked with triumph, already loosing everything she had left into the opening.
Logan didn’t wait for her arrows to land. Reaper’s Stride carried him inside the Warden’s guard, close enough that the obsidian greatblade’s shadow fell directly across his shoulders.
Broken Chain.
He aimed the cut not at the arm itself, but at whatever bound flesh to obsidian in the first place, the fusion point Rishin’s second technique had always been meant for.
For one heartbeat, nothing happened. Then the greatblade simply detached, the connection between weapon and wielder severed clean, and it clattered against the stone a full second before the Warden’s arm even registered the loss.
Something clicked into place behind Logan’s eyes in that exact instant, sharp and sudden, like a door he hadn’t known was locked swinging open on its own weight.
He’d used Rishin’s philosophy properly both times, in the same fight, against something that had actually deserved the effort. Not a training dummy. Not a mountain boulder.
A living, thinking thing that had built itself around exactly the kind of connections the sword art existed to sever.
```
[ Insight gained. ]
[ Sword Intent (Special-rank Talent): 17% → 28%. ]
```
The world didn’t look different, not exactly. But the threads Logan had spent months learning to half-see suddenly sat sharper against everything around him.
They were clearer, more numerous, and easier to follow all the way down to whatever they actually connected.
