Chapter 371: Chapter 16: Wasteland Wolves
Leo also praised the new walls. "And that’s not all. We also utilized metal elements from some of the ores to increase the walls’ durability."
In every corner of the shelter, everyone was striving toward a common goal. They knew that only by standing united could they survive in this challenging world.
Outside the shelter, the wasteland remained a world fraught with danger and uncertainty. But Ye Yun and his people were ready. They would bravely face whatever difficulties the future held, for they shared a common conviction and purpose.
They believed that as long as they stood united and worked together, the shelter’s future would be bright. And they, in turn, would become the builders and Guardians of this new world.
Meanwhile, the data Bena’s team had brought back was being sorted and classified. Researchers discovered new designs for energy technology and defense systems that promised to improve the shelter’s energy efficiency and defensive capabilities.
Ye Yun was very pleased with these results. He knew these advancements would bring the shelter greater hope and potential for growth.
He encouraged the research team to continue their hard work, to keep exploring and innovating.
However, as the shelter expanded and developed, new challenges soon followed.
Some hostile forces took notice of the shelter’s prosperity and began to conspire against it in secret.
Ye Yun received intelligence that unidentified individuals were approaching the shelter, their intentions unknown.
"We need to heighten our security. We can’t let external threats destroy our home," Ye Yun said gravely during a meeting.
Lin Hao, Zhou Mei, Leo, and Bena all agreed. They began to formulate a plan to strengthen the shelter’s defenses.
After learning of the threat from the Desert Wolf, Ye Yun quickly convened a meeting with the shelter’s core members to discuss countermeasures.
Lin Hao, Zhou Mei, Leo, and Bena sat around the long table in the conference room, their expressions grim.
"We can’t just wait for them to act. We have to go on the offensive," Ye Yun said, breaking the silence. His gaze was firm and resolute.
Lin Hao nodded, his fingers tapping lightly on the tabletop as he considered their tactical options.
"We can use the wasteland’s complex terrain to set up a series of traps and ambush points. The Desert Wolf isn’t familiar with this environment, which will be to our advantage."
"Exactly," Zhou Mei added. "We can place traps along their likely routes—deep pits, spikes, things like that. We can also use the cover of darkness to position snipers in high places for surveillance and to engage them."
Leo added:
"Our fortifications need to be strengthened as well. We need to make sure every entrance to the shelter is adequately defended, like reinforcing the walls and setting up roadblocks and barricades."
Bena, in turn, proposed his own plan:
"I’ll select some agile, experienced Warriors to form a rapid-response squad. Once the Desert Wolf falls into our traps, we can strike fast and catch them completely off guard."
After listening to everyone’s input, Ye Yun began to draw up a detailed plan of action. He assigned tasks to each person, ensuring every phase of the operation was covered.
"Lin Hao, you’re in charge of setting the traps and ambushes. Zhou Mei and Leo, you two will handle reinforcing the fortifications. Bena, forming and training the rapid-response squad is on you," Ye Yun ordered.
A few days later, under Ye Yun’s leadership, the shelter’s residents began their frenzied preparations.
They dug deep pits across the wasteland, lined them with sharp spikes, and established sniper nests in high-up positions. The fortifications were also being feverishly improved: walls were reinforced, and multiple barriers were erected at the entrances.
Bena’s rapid-response squad trained intensely as well. They practiced assembling at a moment’s notice and learned how to quickly locate and engage targets in the dark. A single belief was drilled into every member: protect our home, never retreat.
Finally, on a moonless night, the forces of the Desert Wolf crept toward the shelter. They had split into several small groups, attempting a silent infiltration. However, the moment they set foot in the designated trap zone, the alarms blared.
"Engage!" Ye Yun’s command boomed from the command room, his voice crackling over the radio to every Guardian.
In an instant, the shelter’s defense systems roared to life. Traps were sprung, and the spikes in the deep pits impaled the bodies of the Desert Wolf’s fighters. From their high perches, the snipers opened fire, bullets streaking across the night sky on lethal trajectories.
The rapid-response squad deployed, charging the invaders with weapons in hand. The Desert Wolf’s forces were caught completely by surprise, and their formation instantly collapsed into chaos.
Some of the werewolves tried to fight back but were quickly suppressed by accurate fire and swift assaults. Bena’s squad moved like ghosts in the night, silently reaping the enemies’ lives.
After a night of fierce fighting, the Desert Wolf’s forces were utterly crushed. Their bodies lay scattered across the wasteland, becoming nourishment for the land.
The shelter’s residents were exhausted, but their eyes shone with the light of victory.
Ye Yun stepped out of the command room, looking out over the scene from a high vantage point. He knew this victory wasn’t just due to their thorough preparations, but more so to their love for their home and their respect for life.
"We did it," Ye Yun said to Lin Hao, Zhou Mei, Leo, and Bena as they approached. "But we can’t let our guard down. The wasteland has more challenges waiting for us."
