Chapter 423: Chapter 11: The Mysterious Dunhuang

Li Xiao said, "The beef jerky and dairy products are both good. We can bring some back for our families to try. The Mongolian Sabers are really unique, but remember, you can’t take them on the plane."

They picked out some local specialties and returned with their hands full.

The next day, they spent some more time on the Hulun Bei’er Grassland, taking in the tranquility of the morning and the magnificence of the evening. Then, they shouldered their bags and prepared to head to their next destination.

"Goodbye, Hulun Bei’er! We’ll never forget your beauty and vastness." Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei waved farewell to the pearl of the grasslands, looking forward to the next exciting leg of their journey. Along the way, the two of them talked nonstop about their anticipation for the mysterious land of Dunhuang.

"Old Li, Dunhuang is just filled with mystery, isn’t it? The Mogao Grottoes, Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring... just hearing the names is captivating," Huang Pengfei said excitedly.

Li Xiao nodded and replied, "Exactly. Dunhuang is a city with a long history and brilliant culture. We have to really experience its charm this time."

After a long journey, they finally arrived in Dunhuang. The moment they stepped out of the station, they were enveloped by the dry air and unique atmosphere.

"Whoa, the feeling here is totally different," said Huang Pengfei.

They first went to the Mogao Grottoes. The Mogao Grottoes are the world’s largest and most content-rich site of Buddhist art, and the exquisite murals and statues within each cave were breathtaking.

"These Mogao Grottoes are just magnificent!" Huang Pengfei exclaimed, gazing up at the caves.

Li Xiao was also stunned by these artistic treasures. He said, "These murals and statues embody the wisdom and painstaking effort of ancient artists. They’re our precious cultural heritage."

Led by a tour guide, they visited one cave after another, listening to the history and stories of the Mogao Grottoes. Every mural, every statue, seemed to tell a tale of a glorious past.

After touring the Mogao Grottoes, they came to Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring. Mingsha Mountain rolled on and on, its sand dunes sharp as blades, shimmering gold under the sun. Crescent Spring, like a sliver of a new moon, lay quietly in the embrace of Mingsha Mountain.

"This scenery is absolutely beautiful!" Huang Pengfei said excitedly as he started climbing Mingsha Mountain.

Li Xiao followed behind, taking in the desert’s charm as he climbed. When they stood at the summit, looking down at Crescent Spring and the surrounding landscape, their hearts filled with emotion.

"This is truly a miracle of nature," Li Xiao said.

They slid down the mountain, experiencing the wondrous sound of the singing sand. Then, they went to the edge of Crescent Spring to admire the beauty of the clear pool.

After visiting Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring, they were getting hungry. So, they headed to Dunhuang’s food street to sample the local cuisine. Dunhuang boasts a wide variety of dishes, such as Donkey Meat Yellow Noodles, Lamb Soup, and Jiangshui Noodles.

"Old Li, what should we eat first?" Huang Pengfei asked, looking at the food stalls lining the street.

Li Xiao thought for a moment and said, "Let’s start with the Donkey Meat Yellow Noodles. I hear it’s a Dunhuang specialty."

They found a restaurant, sat down, and ordered the Donkey Meat Yellow Noodles. Before long, the dish was served. The noodles were chewy, the donkey meat was tender, and the flavor was delicious.

"Mmm, delicious! These Donkey Meat Yellow Noodles really live up to their reputation," Huang Pengfei said, giving a thumbs-up as he ate.

After finishing the Donkey Meat Yellow Noodles, they also tried the Lamb Soup and Jiangshui Noodles. The Lamb Soup was rich in flavor, while the Jiangshui Noodles were cool and refreshing.

"The food in Dunhuang is really something else," Huang Pengfei said with satisfaction.

With their bellies full, they went to a theater in Dunhuang to watch a spectacular Dunhuang Dance performance. The dancers, dressed in gorgeous costumes, moved gracefully, showcasing the unique charm of Dunhuang’s culture.

"What a great show!" Huang Pengfei said excitedly.

Li Xiao was also captivated by the performance. He said, "The Dunhuang Dance is a vital part of Dunhuang’s culture. We should do our best to preserve and promote it."

After the show, they went to a local specialty shop. The store was filled with all sorts of local products, like replicas of the Dunhuang Murals, Luminous Cups, and Li Guang Apricots.

"Old Li, what do you think we should buy to take back?" Huang Pengfei asked.

Li Xiao said, "The Dunhuang Mural replicas would be great souvenirs. We could buy one to take back. The Luminous Cups are exquisite too; we could get a few of those. The Li Guang Apricots are also good. We can bring some back for our families to try."

They picked out some local specialties and returned with their hands full.

The next day, they visited other scenic spots in Dunhuang, such as Yangguan and Yumen Pass. These places gave them an even deeper appreciation for Dunhuang’s historical depth and cultural charm.

"Goodbye, Dunhuang! We’ll never forget your mystery and beauty." Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei waved farewell to this legendary desert city and prepared to head to their next destination.

After bidding farewell to the mysterious Dunhuang, Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei set off on their journey to Chongqing. Along the way, the two were full of curiosity and anticipation for the Mountain City they were about to reach.

"Old Li, Chongqing is supposed to be a great place! I hear there’s lots of good food and fun things to do," Huang Pengfei said excitedly.

Li Xiao smiled and replied, "Exactly. Chongqing is a city full of charm, with its unique mountain-and-river landscape and its fiery food culture."

After a flight, they finally arrived in Chongqing. The moment they stepped out of the airport, they could feel the city’s warmth. The air was filled with the aroma of hot pot, making their mouths water.

"Wow, that hot pot smells amazing!" Huang Pengfei couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
