Chapter 437: Chapter 18: Seaside Splendor
Li Xiao walked into a handicraft shop and admired the exquisite wood carvings, embroidery, and other crafts. "This craftsmanship is absolutely incredible," he marveled. "It truly showcases the wisdom and creativity of the local people." Huang Pengfei chimed in beside him, "You’re right. All this stuff is so unique. They’d make great souvenirs."
As they walked, they eventually reached the central square of the Ancient City. A group of children were playing in the square while the elderly sat nearby, sunbathing and chatting. Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei found a bench and sat down, quietly soaking in the peace and serenity. Huang Pengfei sighed wistfully, "The pace of life here is so slow. It makes you feel so calm." Li Xiao smiled. "That’s the charm of the Ancient City. It lets us find a peaceful harbor in our busy lives."
Around noon, they decided to try some of the local cuisine. The Ancient City’s specialties included braised pork rice and douhua. They found a local restaurant and ordered these signature dishes. When the braised pork rice was served, its rich aroma immediately whetted their appetites.
"Wow, this braised pork rice looks so appetizing!" Huang Pengfei eagerly picked up his chopsticks and took a bite. "Mmm, this is delicious. The braised pork is rich but not greasy, and the rice is so fragrant." Li Xiao also tried a bite of the douhua and was full of praise. "This douhua is so smooth and tender. It tastes incredible with this special sauce."
After lunch, they went to watch a local folk performance. It was held in a theater in the Ancient City and featured traditional dances and opera. The performers were brilliant, giving Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei a deep appreciation for the Ancient City’s cultural heritage. They were completely captivated, clapping and cheering without pause.
After the performance, they went to buy some local products. The area was known for its tea and handicrafts. They selected some tea and an exquisite wooden decorative piece as mementos of their trip. Holding the tea, Huang Pengfei said, "This tea smells so fragrant. I’ll bring it back for my dad; he’s going to love it." Li Xiao smiled. "Exactly. These souvenirs are meaningful. They’ll help us remember this wonderful trip."
After their shopping, they wandered through the Ancient City for a while longer. As the sun began to set, it bathed the city in a golden afterglow, making it look exceptionally beautiful. Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei stood atop an ancient City Tower, gazing at the distant scenery, their hearts swelling with emotion. Huang Pengfei said, "Today was amazing. This Ancient City let me experience its rich historical atmosphere and unique cultural charm." Li Xiao replied, "It was. And our trip isn’t over yet. I can’t wait to see what surprises the next place has in store for us."
Leaving the elegant Ancient City behind, Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei arrived in a city known for its enchanting coastal scenery.
The moment they set foot in the new city, a salty sea breeze greeted them warmly. Huang Pengfei excitedly threw his arms open and shouted, "Li Xiao, the air here even smells like the ocean! This is awesome!" Gazing at the endless sea in the distance, Li Xiao replied with a smile, "It does. I’m sure the scenery here won’t disappoint us."
They made their way to the shore, where the vast blue ocean instantly filled their view. Waves lapped steadily against the beach, creating a pleasant, rhythmic sound. Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei took off their shoes and walked barefoot on the soft sand, enjoying the marvelous sensation of it trickling through their toes.
"Wow, this sand feels so nice!" Huang Pengfei exclaimed as he walked. Li Xiao watched the seagulls soaring over the water. "The ocean always clears your mind and makes you forget all your worries," he said. They strolled along the beach, spotting children building sandcastles and couples walking hand-in-hand by the water’s edge. It was a heartwarming sight.
Further down the beach, they saw a group of people playing volleyball. Huang Pengfei’s interest was immediately piqued, and he dragged Li Xiao over to join them. They ran, jumped, and laughed with the group of strangers, reveling in the joy of the game. By the end of the match, everyone was drenched in sweat but beaming with brilliant smiles.
Tired from the game, they sat on the sand to rest, watching boats glide slowly across the water toward the distant islands. Huang Pengfei sighed contentedly. "Life by the sea is so relaxing." Li Xiao nodded in agreement. "It is. The scenery is intoxicating."
Around noon, they decided to try the local seafood. They found a restaurant by the sea, where all kinds of fresh seafood were on display. They ordered crab, shrimp, and various shellfish. Before long, a delicious seafood feast was served to their table.
"Wow, this seafood looks incredible!" Huang Pengfei couldn’t wait to pick up a crab and try it. "Mmm, the flavor is so fresh and delicious. This is amazing." Li Xiao also tried a shrimp and was full of praise. "The seafood here really is fresh. It makes all the difference in the taste."
After lunch, they went to see another local folk performance: the songs and dances of the fisherfolk. The performers, dressed in traditional fishing village attire, put on a show of ocean-themed songs and dances that depicted the life and culture of the local people. Li Xiao and Huang Pengfei were completely enthralled by the wonderful performance, clapping and cheering without pause.
After the show, they went to buy some local specialties. The area was known for its dried seafood and seashell handicrafts. They picked out some beautiful seashell crafts and some dried seafood as souvenirs from their trip. Huang Pengfei held up a seashell necklace. "This necklace is so delicate. I’ll bring it back for my sister; she’s going to love it." Li Xiao smiled. "You’re right. These local specialties are very distinctive and make for perfect gifts."
