Chapter 88 - 87: Thinking of Running?? Can You Get Away??
Chapter 88: Chapter 87: Thinking of Running?? Can You Get Away??
But rage hadn’t clouded his mind.
A single suit of power armor was already more than they could handle.
Now, with the addition of three exoskeletons, the already tilted scales had instantly tipped completely to one side.
After a moment of thought, Black Wind made his decision.
’Flee. I have to flee, now.’
But just as the thought formed, a hail of bullets swept past him.
"Trying to run? You think you can get away?"
A furious roar echoed from nearby.
Black Wind’s expression changed drastically as he looked toward the sound.
The one who had spoken was in the very power armor he had just sent flying with an explosion.
Although the power armor’s movements were now somewhat distorted, it was clear that while the explosion had done some damage, it hadn’t completely disabled the suit.
A chill went down Black Wind’s spine. A series of miscalculations had completely upended his plans, causing him to lose all the pieces on his board.
With no time for regrets, Black Wind gritted his teeth and used his ability again, his entire body dissolving into a black shadow that fled swiftly into the distance.
Amas froze, watching Black Wind turn into a black shadow.
"An ability user?"
But he snapped out of it a moment later. This was no time to be surprised.
He immediately tried to give chase, but while the explosion hadn’t completely destroyed the power armor, it had damaged some of its critical components.
His movement speed had dropped to a third of its original capacity, and without the aid of the assistance systems, trying to operate, move, and shoot simultaneously would drastically reduce his accuracy.
Resigned, he could only stand his ground and fire at the rapidly retreating Black Wind.
However, ordinary bullets were completely unable to harm Black Wind while he was in his shadow state.
The bullets only kicked up sprays of debris and dust from the ground.
Watching Black Wind speed away, Amas could only curse up a storm inside the power armor, his frustration mounting.
Just then, however, two figures suddenly shot out from either side of the power armor, charging straight for the distant Black Wind.
They were two Warriors in exoskeletons, moving at extreme speed. They had started accelerating almost at the same moment the power armor opened fire.
Amas’s spirits lifted when he saw them.
The ones giving chase were Deng Yu and Qiaodun. While exoskeletons were far inferior to power armor overall, they weren’t lacking in the speed department.
Seeing that two of his reliable teammates were already pursuing the ability user, Amas knew there was nothing more he could do to help with the chase.
He immediately turned his guns on the remaining raiders who were still putting up a futile resistance.
The two men in exoskeletons were incredibly fast, catching up to Black Wind in just a few moments.
After activating his ability, Black Wind was indeed faster than a normal person and could ignore terrain obstacles. An ordinary person would have no chance of catching him.
But that only applied to ordinary people.
Deng Yu and Qiaodun, however, were wearing exoskeletons. With the assistance of the suits, their base speed was already immense, allowing them to easily overtake him despite their later start.
The assault rifles in their hands spat fire, landing accurate shots on the black shadow.
However, just like before, the bullets had no effect. The shadow remained unharmed and continued its frantic escape.
Deng Yu and Qiaodun exchanged a look. They immediately sensed something was wrong. This wasn’t their first encounter with an ability user.
Black Wind’s ability was unusual, but it wasn’t unique.
Deng Yu thought for a moment before an idea struck him. Reaching for his hip, he quickly pulled out a grenade.
After pulling the pin, he didn’t throw it immediately. He waited a moment, holding it until two seconds before detonation, then decisively tossed it.
The grenade landed squarely in the shadow’s area. Countless fragments and steel balls shot out, riddling the ground with holes.
And yet, the shadow seemed completely unaffected, continuing to flee wildly into the distance.
At the same time, a mocking laugh escaped from the shadow:
"Don’t waste your energy. The weapons you’re holding can’t hurt me at all."
Hearing the taunt, Deng Yu showed no sign of anger. Instead, a faint smile touched his lips.
’That grenade was just a probe, and I got the answer I was looking for.’
He immediately switched to their private channel.
"Qiaodun, his ability probably grants immunity to some or all physical attacks."
"But when I threw that grenade just now, the shadow clearly tried to dodge."
"If he were truly immune to everything, he wouldn’t have bothered dodging."
"Also, he was silent for the entire fight until I threw the grenade. Only then did he speak."
"It sounded like a taunt, but to me, it felt more like a bluff from someone who’s losing confidence."
"If he really had nothing to fear, there would be no need to waste his breath. And if taunting was just a habit, he would have done it when we started shooting at him earlier."
"His current state can’t possibly be immune to all forms of attack, and it definitely can’t last long."
"If his power were really that strong, a guy like him wouldn’t be scraping by as a petty raider in the middle of nowhere. He’d be living the high life in a city by now."
"I’ll use some other types of grenades to test for his weakness. You keep up the suppressive fire! Force him to stay in that form."
Qiaodun:
"No problem!"
As soon as the words were spoken, Deng Yu pulled an incendiary grenade from his belt, his eyes locked on the fleeing shadow ahead.
At the same time, Qiaodun maintained a steady burst fire, his bullets landing continuously around Black Wind to force him to maintain his ability’s form, preventing him from easily changing back.
Black Wind felt an unprecedented amount of pressure. He could feel his ability was already nearing its limit.
His earlier taunt had just been a ploy to make them give up the chase. In the past, when his enemies found they couldn’t hurt him, they would usually give up after a short while.
These two, however, seemed dead set on killing him.
Black Wind’s mind raced, trying to figure out how to escape this dead-end situation.
Just then, Deng Yu swung his arm, throwing the incendiary grenade.
Unlike the previous grenade, the incendiary arced through the air and landed in front of Black Wind, right in his path.
The grenade exploded on contact with the ground, unleashing a massive amount of fire and intense heat.
The flames spread rapidly, forming a sea of fire that completely cut off Black Wind’s escape route.
Black Wind’s heart leaped in alarm. He could feel the intense heat contained within the blaze.
In his ability’s form, he might not fear physical attacks, but fire was his absolute weakness.
