Chapter 400: Death Holding Dagger.
Chapter 400: Death Holding Dagger.
Leading his battalion, Kharv wore a confident grin on his face. His crimson eyes blazed with fire, various thoughts running through his mind.
’Humans! Humph!’
’Before me, what could mere humans amount to?’
’I don’t understand what the Elders are thinking, dispatching the main army.’
’I alone am enough to take down all the humans.’
’Before my men, every human will fall into despair.’
’Still, without these foolish humans, who knows when I would get the chance to prove myself.’ He thought, with a smug smile creeping onto his face.
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became.
Victory seemed inevitable.
After this battle, his reputation would surely spread throughout the Scorpion Clan.
His recent promotion would finally be acknowledged by everyone.
Suddenly, the scouts he had sent to check ahead rushed forward, urging their Scorpion Mounts to move faster.
The urgency on their faces immediately caught everyone’s attention.
From the dune slack, the five scouts jumped down from their mounts and bowed respectfully before Kharv.
"Commander, we’ve detected movement on the other side of the dune slack," one of the scouts reported quickly.
Hmm?
Kharv frowned, and the smug smile on his face vanished.
"Did you see what they are?" he asked.
The five scouts shook their heads.
"We didn’t. We were afraid the enemies might detect us, and we didn’t dare get any closer."
"Useless," Kharv spat angrily.
His eyes narrowed dangerously.
Without knowing their enemies, how was he going to plan his attack? However, his anger only lasted a second before a confident smirk appeared on his face.
His confidence quickly returned.
"No matter what they are."
"We’re going to crush them."
"Return to your positions."
He commanded before looking at his men.
"Enemies are ahead."
"This is our chance to prove ourselves as the strongest!" He shouted.
His men roared in response, waving their weapons in the air. Thousands of battle cries echoed throughout the desert.
The ground trembled beneath their momentum.
The air charged with anticipation.
Many could already see their enemies falling beneath their feet. Some even laughed excitedly.
Others tightened their grips around their weapons.
Watching his men’s high morale, Kharv nodded with a pleased expression.
This was exactly the spirit he wanted.
"Let’s tear apart the enemies."
"Charge!" he roared at the top of his lungs.
His mount raced deeper into the dune slack, and behind him, his troops raced to keep up.
Thousands of armored Scorpion Men surged forward together.
The synchronized march resembled a crimson flood sweeping through the desert.
Unknown to Kharv and his men, they failed to notice the four undead Echo Scarabs flying above them.
The tiny undead insects silently hovered high in the sky.
Since they were dead to begin with, the Scorpions’ senses failed to detect anything.
Not a single one of them realized they were already being watched.
At the end of the dune slack, Thoren received the live report, and his smile couldn’t help but deepen.
Every movement of the Scorpion battalion appeared clearly inside his mind. He detected the five Scorpion Men scouts but decided to let them return and deliver the report.
He had expected the Scorpion troops would slow down and plan how to take him down.
From there... He could slaughter them in one clean swoop.
But now...
Their reaction was even better than expected.
Arrogance truly was the greatest weakness.
Whoosh!
Five undead Sanguine Vultures rose into the sky.
Compared to the previous undead Sanguine Vultures, these were different.
What was different?
Thoren had replaced their deadly sharp feathers with High Bronze Grade daggers.
Each dagger had been carefully embedded into their wings. Every flap caused dozens of sharp blades to shimmer beneath the moonlight.
If the previous version of the undead Sanguine Vultures had been frightening... This upgrade had turned them into deadly killing machines.
Nightmares of every living creature.
They had become far deadlier than before.
And now, Thoren was going to test them against the incoming Scorpion Men Army.
Quickly, the five undead Sanguine Vultures cut through the air at breathtaking speed toward their targets.
They flew without making the slightest sound. Like ghosts descending from the heavens.
[Bone Mirror]
With the Bone Mirror skill activated, Thoren saw Kharv and his battalion through one of the undead Sanguine Vulture’s eyes.
Everything became crystal clear.
He merely looked at the fool before he commanded the undead Sanguine Vultures to target those at the back.
Whoosh!
On the ground, Kharv and his troops were charging forward with their blood boiling with anticipation.
With the enemies ahead, their fighting spirit blazed with killing intent.
No one looked upward.
No one imagined death would descend from above.
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
Heads fell like cherries in quick succession.
The Scorpion Men at the back of the battalion widened their eyes in fear.
Before they could understand what was going on, dozens of heads had already been severed from their bodies.
Blood splattered onto the ground like broken pipes.
Headless corpses continued charging several steps before collapsing heavily.
The atmosphere changed.
Tension hung in the air.
Fear gripped everyone’s hearts.
"Ene..."
A Captain prepared to scream, but before he could complete his warning, his head was severed cleanly from his neck.
Thud!
His body collapsed lifelessly.
"Enemy attack!"
Even though the enemy’s attacks were swift and deadly, the Scorpion Men were too many. With the roar, the perfectly synchronized march descended into chaos.
Everyone desperately tried to find the enemy.
No one knew where the attacks were coming from.
Whoosh!
"In the sky!" a voice screamed.
Instantly, everyone raised their heads and saw red bolts dashing toward them at frightening speed.
Before they could even blink, another round of heads had already been severed from the necks of unfortunate Scorpion Men.
The undead Sanguine Vultures never slowed down.
They flew past like streaks of crimson lightning.
Their High Bronze Grade daggers sliced through scales, armor, flesh, and bone without resistance.
"Nooooo!"
"Attack!"
"Kill!"
"Defend!"
Command after command rained from the captains.
Panic rapidly spread throughout the battalion.
Weapons were thrown into the sky.
Some brave ones even leaped into the air trying to kill the enemies.
But all failed.
They were all killed in one clean strike.
No second strike.
Only instant death.
Those foolish enough to jump into the air had their bodies cleaved apart into two.
Their corpses fell heavily onto the crimson sand.
Blood rained from above.
Scorpion Men might have sturdy bodies, but before High Bronze Grade daggers, their bodies were as soft as butter beneath a hot knife.
Armor offered no protection.
Scales offered no resistance.
Every slash claimed another life.
The morale that had burned moments ago disappeared completely.
Replacing it...
Was terror.
At the forefront, news had reached Kharv. Listening to the report, Kharv was stunned.
"How was this possible?" His confident smile had long disappeared.
He could not understand how the enemies managed to appear behind him without anyone noticing. His carefully arranged formation had been shattered before the battle even begin.
Even though he was confused, he reacted quickly.
"Turn back quickly!" he commanded.
He needed to provide support for his men. He could not allow the slaughter to continue.
The battalion immediately began changing formation.
But just as they prepared to turn back... the ground ahead began to tremble.
