Goblin Dependency
Chapter 1292: Temporary Partner and Task Selection
For Winter Wolf Fanny, after spending the past few days together, Xia Nan’s impression is very positive.
Although sometimes, especially when there are no outsiders present, she may seem a bit clingy, often rubbing against him, showcasing a contrasting image from her aloof demeanor towards the outside world.
But in most cases, she is undoubtedly a trustworthy, intelligent, and brave reliable teammate.
In battles, she actively distracts the enemies, providing opportunities for Xia Nan to strike, without being greedy for credit. She advances and retreats appropriately, knowing when to hand the main battlefield back to him;
During training, she sits obediently by the side, even if she gets bored to the point of nodding off or playing with bugs, never disturb Xia Nan, and only approaches with wagging tail once he finishes training.
Just like the inexplicable tacit understanding they exhibit during battles, their daily interactions are also very harmonious.
The Winter Wolf race grants Fanny an intelligence comparable to wise beings, with tactical understanding abilities even stronger than many human soldiers.
Perhaps due to her background as a reincarnated Wolf Spirit, she cannot speak like other Winter Wolves, and her physical structure limits her wearing equipment and using tools, otherwise she could completely have the ability to become an adventurer in the true sense of a “Lone Wolf”.
At times, with the degree of intelligence Fanny shows in daily life, Xia Nan even feels that if she attended school for a few years in his past life, she might just use her wolf claws to solve a few math problems.
In this situation, if Winter Wolf Fanny wishes to become his temporary teammate and adventure with him, Xia Nan does not mind, and is even happy to accept.
Frogon inquired about Xia Nan’s opinion of Winter Wolf Fanny due to these reasons.
Tracking the Wild Swamp Druid “Basilom”, they traversed mountains and rivers to arrive at the Blood-Forged Fortress, only to find that the previously acquainted Black Cliff Baron had disappeared. The fog of mystery required deep investigation.
Combining discoveries on the way here, Frogon has a premonition that the Wild Swamp Druid he hunts is not far away.
If encountered head-on during the investigation, it might immediately lead to a battle.
Though Winter Wolf Fanny may have great potential, having only been reincarnated for just over a year, her combat abilities are obviously immature.
If accidentally caught in the crossfire, surviving might be difficult, and the efforts of her reincarnation would be for naught.
With this as a premise.
Frogon wants Xia Nan to take care of Fanny during their time at the Blood-Forged Fortress.
The young black-haired adventurer with the title “Gray Sword” is trustworthy, and his strength has grown far beyond expectations.
Following him, even for just a few months, Fanny should be able to grow.
And with Winter Wolf Fanny’s current level of combat power, she can surely provide significant assistance to Xia Nan.
Having thoroughly considered, adding a reliable teammate for no apparent cost, modern people seem to lack a reason to refuse.
As for Winter Wolf Fanny’s own wishes…
It can only be said that when Frogon made the suggestion to Xia Nan in the reception hall at the Blood-Forged Fortress, despite the presence of outsiders, the slightly restrained but still vigorously wagging tail of Winter Wolf Fanny, and those human-like wolf eyes that were almost drilling into Xia Nan, were enough to demonstrate her thoughts.
When Xia Nan walked out of the Blood-Forged Fortress with Fanny, her fluffy, cool body was almost pressed against him.
Rubbing Fanny’s plush head with great texture, letting the Winter Wolf squint her eyes comfortably.
Xia Nan couldn’t help but recall the encounter earlier in the Blood-Forged Fortress’s reception hall.
Frogon’s main reason for calling him over was certainly related to matters concerning Fanny, and explained the plan for the upcoming months to him.
Though no detailed goals were revealed, it’s estimated frequent outings would occupy his time, leaving little opportunity to guide him regularly.
But as long as he’s back at the Blood-Forged Fortress, Xia Nan can always find him with any questions he might have.
Xia Nan can certainly accept this.
He has long determined his action plan, hoping to find inspiration for self-developed battle skills through vast combat experience, and simultaneously accumulate war merits to exchange for the “Final Reversal Scale”.
Such intermittent meetings with Barbarian Frogon every now and then to address issues suits Xia Nan perfectly.
On another note, Frogon’s move to call Xia Nan to the Inner Castle is likely an attempt to aid him further, to help this young man from a low background find connections in the Border Fortress.
And the enthusiasm of “Swent”, the Fortress Guard Captain and Deputy Garrison Commander, who was in the room at the time also attests to Frogon’s effectiveness in this approach.
To be honest, when Swent asked if he encountered any troubles in the fortress or needed assistance.
Xia Nan truly pondered over the idea.
He considered whether he could ask for help from them, not to directly raise his war merit level to the level of “Fortress Guard”, but slightly leverage relationships to let him redeem the “Chain of Conquest” earlier.
Just that one item; the rest he’ll work on by himself to improve his war merit level.
Reflecting the power level of Barbarian Frogon behind Xia Nan, coupled with Swent’s own personality and style, this isn’t an excessive request.
