Chapter 1300 - 639: Unreached Spring

  • Next Chapter

The Frost Forest is especially cold at night. As soon as one steps outside from the warmth of a house, droplets of water instantly condense on the surface of the Dark Scale Guard, and quickly transform into a layer of pure white, crystalline frost.

Made primarily from Exotic Snake Scales, it has material properties that differ from ordinary metals.

No need for exertion; with just a gentle shake of the forearm, the frost condensed on the surface of the Arm Shield falls off, leaving a spotless shield surface without a trace.

A girl named Sarah walks ahead, wrapped in thick layers of clothing to fend off the cold, yet her steps appear extraordinarily light.

The great pressure from the Half-orc adventurer and the village chief, along with the sound of the closing door behind her, disperses the residual warmth from the fireplace and replaces it with the cold from outside.

"Thank you for your intervention, sir!"

Sarah turns around, her face showing a bright smile, sincerely expressing gratitude to the black-haired Adventurer in front of her.

Though previously she dared not utter a word inside the house, her spirit too tense from the pressure exerted by the adventurer, causing her focus to scatter and her body to tremble.

But now, having truly left the small house, her mind returns to her head, and Sarah realizes it was this cold and severe young black-haired Adventurer before her who helped her.

He waved a hand to signal to the girl that she need not worry too much.

Xia Nan held a piece of fragrant grilled cake in his hand, still steaming in the cold night, brought out from his dining table just before leaving.

Tearing off a small piece, he waved it in front of Winter Wolf Fenney’s nose, seemingly asking if she wanted to eat it.

Seeing Fenney’s nose twitching, shaking her head vigorously with a look of disinterest, he gave up his original idea of sharing.

He raised a hand and bit into the small piece of grilled cake.

Chewing, his dark eyes first gazed skyward at the bright crescent moon, clear of any clouds, shining brightly among the stars and night sky. He thought the weather was fine and estimated that he wouldn’t need to overly consider the climate aspect in his action plans for the next couple of days.

His gaze then returned to the girl in front of him.

Honestly, despite having helped the girl out in front of Half-orc Gangke due to his own personality and worldview differing partly from the adventures of this world.

Xia Nan completely disagrees with Sarah’s actions of entering the room like that.

After all, not every adventurer possesses the ethical qualities of someone from a modern society.

The lack of a regulatory system and the amplification of individual power dictate the release of desires, entirely dependent on one’s conscience and boundaries.

Upon entering the village, from the moment Xia Nan and his team arrived, they only saw this one young Sarah, revealing some of the dynamics.

Through the reactions of the farm women and village chief when Sarah entered the room, it can be deduced that her actions were not approved by her elders.

Under such circumstances, Sarah’s behavior of entering the room could almost be seen as voluntarily handing her life over to the adventurers inside.

Had it not been for Xia Nan’s presence and the "Sulfur Dragon Breath" team maintaining some rules.

The frail and hunched elderly village chief inside the room, perhaps accompanied by a few farm women, couldn’t possibly prevent powerful adventurers accustomed to battling demons from doing what they wanted.

To Xia Nan, the girl’s actions seemed extremely reckless, even a bit foolish.

Even though he aided her momentarily in front of the Half-orc, it was purely to avoid witnessing a subsequent disaster; his impression of Sarah was somewhat diminished.

Yet, simultaneously, Xia Nan couldn’t help but be curious about the reason behind Sarah’s choice to enter the room despite the risk.

On the other hand, his current attire makes him appear experienced and formidable as a professional elite among fellow adventurers.

But to ordinary people unsure of the equipment’s quality, they would only feel inexplicable Fear due to the red glow reflecting off the Red Thorn Armor, similar to the blood light, and Xia Nan’s own Mysterious and heavy aura shaped by Teeth Hunting and other battle skills and past experiences.

Furthermore, he also has a fierce wolf beast of considerable size by his side.

Ordinary people would avoid him, let alone approach him voluntarily.

He casually rubbed Fenney’s head and asked:

"You seem to be quite interested in Fenney?"

"You are a good person, sir." Sarah’s gaze shifted from Xia Nan to Winter Wolf Fenney beside him. "My father once told me that anyone who bonds with beasts couldn’t be a bad person."

This isn’t necessarily true...

Xia Nan complained inwardly but remained silent outwardly.

"It’s a Winter Wolf, right?"

Knowing that Fenney dislikes strangers approaching, the girl slowly crouched in place, hugging her knees, her black and white eyes fixed on Fenney, with a somewhat pensive expression:

"Its mane is cleaner and more translucent than the Ice Crystals in the forest."

"I once heard from my father that the first time he saw my mother, was while hunting on a snowy plain seemingly forever covered by frost."

"They say that many gigantic White Wolf beasts, larger than the pack animals of trading caravans, resided there, capable of running for three days and nights nonstop amid endless blizzards."
