God From The Abyss

Chapter 60: Chapter 060: A Glimpse Into the Past
" I’ll kill you. Show yourself."
A gentle laugh echoed through the air.
"It is pleasing to see just how far you’ve fallen, Lord Mikael." The voice was smooth, like silk.
The owner appeared before Mikael. Tall, glittering with divine light, and dripping with arrogance.
On her face was a smile—a genuine, taunting smile that only someone protected by one much stronger could dare to have.
Her delight was naked, clearly visible to even a blind man.
"And you used to be one at whom we would not even dare to gaze directly."
She stepped closer, her projection flickering with power.
"Now look at you, the almighty Mikael. Bound to time, to flesh. Bound to mortality. Quite a shame, isn’t it, my Lord?"
The sarcasm in her purring voice was razor-edged.
Mikael’s gaze darkened further.
"Strange." His voice dropped, ice-cold and filled with even more killing intent. "And since when did Aetherion’s pets get permission to mock Sovereigns?"
The starlight figure’s smile tightened. The remark hit its mark.
"But thou art fallen. Exiled."
She circled him, her voice dripping with the sweetness of superiority. But the moment she met Mikael’s gaze, her form flickered.
Mikael smiled inwardly.
Fear.
Of him.
It was there. And he would use it to his advantage!
The starlight figure immediately drew her gaze away, pushing through the fear.
"Your fall pleased many, if you must know."
She leaned in from behind him, the mockery in her voice unmistakable.
"There are still songs about it up there."
Mikael let out a sigh.
"Is that so?" he replied calmly.
It took every fiber of his being to resist pulling out Ragnarok and going straight to killing and absorbing.
But even the scythe sensed his innate desire, albeit suppressed, and eagerly let a bit of its deathly aura seep into that dimension.
The figure sensed the ’death’ and instinctively drew back.
"Be sure to restrain yourself, Lord Mikael," she snapped. "This is merely a projection of myself, but I am still an emissary to a Sovereign. You are a mortal. Show some decorum befitting your reduced status. At least to a messenger of a much higher being."
Mikael smiled lazily.
"Surely, if you were sent to trade and banter words with me, then I think..." He paused. "What was her name... Gaia would have done a better job."
He yawned, walking away.
"Be sure to clean up the traces of your visit when you are done."
Former Sovereign or not, the fact remained that he was mortal. Unless he managed to find a very good opening, attacking was strictly NOT an option!
Not that he feared death, no. Maybe.
But there was no gain in dying like a fool, since he was clearly aware of the difference in level between them.
"The Gate."
Mikael froze dead in his tracks, and his heart sank.
"Huh?"
The figure had a smug expression as she replied.
"Your connection to the Cosmic Gate shall be severed soon. I would like to see—"
She stopped.
Because he finally looked at her of his own accord.
Just a tilt of his head.
But the killing intent from him, fused with Ragnarok’s deathly aura, nearly overwhelmed her.
She staggered back a few steps before catching herself.
"You dare," she hissed, her eyes sharp with anger and hatred. "Even in this mere, pathetic mortal frame, you dare direct murderous intent toward me? And you think I cannot outright end your pitiful existence right here and now!?"
"Ohhh."
The sound of something being ripped apart resounded as the black scythe slipped out from the tear, pulsing with dark energy.
It seemed otherworldly. Otherworldly in the sense that it felt like aged divinity.
The figure was shocked for quite a while. The appearance of the scythe was something she had not expected.
Ragnarok.
The deadly celestial weapon, rumored to have been forged by Mikael himself when he was still a Sovereign, from the depths of the cosmic abyss and the blood of the older gods!
Used in the rebellion battle between the Sovereign of Abysmal Void and the rest of the Sovereigns!
The weapon was also rumored to be effective against even the Creator Goddess and recognized only its creator. Any other being that came in contact with it had been wiped out, down to their soul and essence. They could not be revived or reborn.
And no one had been able to deduce its exact location since its creation and the fall of its creator.
Probably one of the perks of the older gods’ blood being part of its forging materials.
All in all, the scythe was bad news.
Very bad news.
Mikael smiled as the fear from earlier returned and was even multiplied.
"Seeing that expression, I believe you know that your main body won’t be spared if it catches this so-called ’fragment’. Pass your message and scram, or I just might not kill you like I promised earlier. My patience is running out."
The best way to defend was to attack. That was according to a popular philosopher of Elven origins.
The figure was now trembling. Her fingers, voice, and composite light all trembled.
"Surely, you bluff. Touch me and see whether Lord Aetherion would not instantly blot out your existence." She nearly screamed.
Mikael nodded.
"Mmm-hmm."
"You think I cannot crush this entire academy for your insolence? I—"
"Not my business. It will probably help us grow faster if we absorb their essence, my trusty scythe and I. Well, if you have nothing else to say to me except gloating, be on your merry way. We’re done here."
Saying so, he stored the scythe away, completely ignoring the figure, and walked back to his room.
"And send Aurora—the Goddess—my regards."
He waved as he continued to walk.
The fragment gritted her teeth in fury.
"I’ll surely get you back for this humiliation, Mikael. Enjoy your brief mortal life while it lasts."
The projection shattered into thin shards of light, dissolving into the air.
"Fragile things."
The words echoed as the apparition completely vanished.
Time resumed the next instant.
Mikael exhaled as he lay atop his bed in the dorm.
"My connection to the Gate. Now this is quite the headache."
But first off, for the ’messenger’ to have arrived here, there must be something mitigating the effects of the Rule being broken.
After all, those of the divine realm could not visit the mortal plane and channel celestial essence. At least, not without a backlash. Mikael himself was a living proof of that.
The Celestial was able to stop time with celestial essence, but no backlash.
"If my theory is true, and there is, in fact, something here allowing lower-ranked Celestials to land here, then my vision of coming here was somehow influenced, and I willingly walked into a trap where any Celestial could eventually come and take me out for as long as I am here."
He frowned.
"That is troubling."
