God of Adaptation

Chapter 121: Death of a Father and Son

  • Next Chapter

’Why is my Perfect Adaptation still not working!?’

Regis shouted inside his mind.

The reason why he bravely fought without any regards to the consumption of his aura was because he believed in his gift.

Seeing the still bleeding injury brought upon by the mana shards, he felt dizzy.

’I’m losing too much blood...!’

Regis gritted his teeth as he glanced at Killian who seemed to be already unconscious.

’Pandora just casted a high rank magic spell so she, too, must already be incapacitated... this means that...’

He would need to continue the battle and face the possessed Harold alone.

’Do I really need to...’

The thought of utilizing his demonic power appeared in his mind.

Regis gritted his teeth, ’No. I should at the very least, use it only as a last resort. I can’t keep relying on it every time I encounter a problem!’

He then decided deep in his heart to only use his demonic power when he’s about to die.

"Hahahaha!! It’s funny how pathetic you look right now!!" A demonic laugh left Harold’s mouth as he stared at Regis.

Mana continuously gathered on his hand as the magma overflowed from the cracked earth.

"Experience the power of a master rank magic spell!!!" Harold had a crazed expression on his face as he pointed his remaining hand towards the bloody figure of the white haired boy.

RUMBLE— RUMBLE—

Cracks spread on the ground and soon surrounded the kneeling Regis.

WOOV— WOOV— WOOV—

Lava soon erupted from it, burning right through everything that it touched.

’Shit...!!!’

Regis felt the hot temperature around him and felt nervous.

The reason being the unavailability of his Perfect Adaptation at this point in time which made him unsure of what to do.

"Harold!!! Please stop!!!"

At this moment, both Regis and Harold’s attention was caught by a sudden shout.

Seeing the old man who was slowly walking towards him, Harold’s face twitched, "You’re still not dead, you fucking old man!?"

In a fit of rage, he decided to leave Regis for a moment and walked towards the old man.

"Please just stop this! Aren’t you satisfied with what you did!?" Old Warod screamed with tears in his eyes.

The dignity of a mayor had long left him as he saw the current situation of his village.

Thud—!!!

However, the only reply he received was a punch to his face.

"Why don’t you just die!?"

Harold bellowed with a demonic roar as he kicked the old man on the ground.

At this moment, Regis could feel something within Harold, ’Wait, the other presence in his body is becoming stronger...!’

He watched the interaction between the two carefully as he tried to recover.

Old Warod didn’t even let out a groan as he received the beatings from his "son", he only looked at him with worry.

"Please, this is enough!! I beg of you!! Eat me instead, isn’t that what you wanted!?"

Remembering how the demon possessing his son sucked each and every life of the villagers out of them, he felt sick to his stomach.

Nevertheless, he willingly offered himself in order to put a stop on his "son’s" rampage.

Hearing him, Harold smirked, "Well, it seems like you’re not annoying for once. I’ll use you to recover so I can take even more lives!"

Raising his hand, he then drove his claw towards the old man’s chest. And this time, there wasn’t anything that interrupted him.

SHUIKKKKK!!!!!

The claw entered the old man’s chest without any resistance whatsoever.

Kuishhhh—

Badump— Badump—

"Ha...!" Harold laughed as he looked at the beating heart in his head.

"Although you weren’t able to form a star, your heart is still filled with much vitality which is quite impressive for an ant like you."

Harold smiled as he opened his mouth wide before bringing the heart close to his mouth.

Pat—

However, the red beating heart suddenly dropped on the ground.

"Fucking hell...!"

Harold groaned in pain as his claw suddenly clutched his chest.

At this moment, Regis could feel the source of the other presence in Harold’s body, ’The connection between Harold and the demon... I can sense it!’

His eyes wandered before fixing on Harold’s chest. He then remained silent as a plan formed in his mind.

"Ha...ro...ld..."

Old Warod struggled speaking due to the blood that went up his throat.

His eyes had already darkened and were threatening to close forever, but he remained strong and reached out to his son.

"Pl...ease..."

Unfortunately, his arm had only reached the hem of his son’s pants...

Tap—

...Before his hands dropped to the ground.

His breathing had halted, but his eyes remained fixed on his son’s figure.

Seeing Old Warod die before him, Harold’s expression betrayed that of pure shock.

He seemed to be even more crazy as his expression alternated from an angry and a sorrowful one.

"Fa...the— Fuck! Why do you keep coming back!? Just die— Father!!!"

Half of his face seemed to be angered, while the other side was crying.

Thud—

He knelt towards the ground and for a while, Harold seemed to gain control of his body.

"Father...!!! Father!!!"

Shaking his father’s body, he hoped to at least elicit a reaction from him.

Unfortunately, there was no response.

Old Warod’s body was already cold as his heart had stopped beating.

Tears streamed from Harold’s face, feeling an unimaginable sadness, "Father!!!! Father!!!! Father!!!!"

He repeatedly called out to his father like a boy who was lost in a crowd, looking for his father amidst the sea of people.

However, no matter how desperate he seemed, his father didn’t come back for him.

"I... I didn’t hate you!!!"

Harold desperately screamed, hoping that his father would at least hear him.

Still, what he was saying was true.

He narrated how he found out that his father had some unknown sickness that threatened his life.

He narrated how the reason for his insistence of coming with the hunters of the village wasn’t because he was forced, but was because he wanted to find a way for his father to live.

He screamed the fact that the reason why he willingly gave his body to a demon was because he was promised that his father would be healed.

He narrated everything from his heart, indignant at the result of his actions.

"I... didn’t hate you, Father. I didn’t!!!"

Harold screamed to the heavens above, hoping that he would receive an answer.

However, the heavens seemed to have forsaken him at this point.

Maybe because of him being a bad son.

Or maybe as a punishment for making a deal with a demon.

He didn’t know.

The world seemed to be silent for a moment as all he could hear was his own screams and the beating of his heart.

At this moment, his eyes seemed to flash with determination as he decisively raised his claw and dug through his chest.

"What the fuck are you doing!?" The demonic voice that came out of his mouth wasn’t the voice that belonged to him.

Indeed, the demon had once again taken control of his body.

SHUIKKKKK—!!!!

Taking advantage of the opportunity caused by their conflict, Regis was able to recover fully and sneak behind him.

He then didn’t waste anymore time as he impaled the possessed Harold’s heaet with his sword.

"Fuck!!! Fuck!!! I was so close!!!!"

The demon dwelling inside Harold cursed endlessly, seemingly not being able to accept his current predicament.

However, Regis’s voice sounded solemn as he spoke, "I’m sure that your father has heard you clearly."

"What the fuck are you talking about!? That brat is go— Really?"

The demonic voice instantly became a trembling one that was filled with sadness.

"Yes..." Regis then pointed at Old Warod’s corpse and said, "Look, don’t you see the smile on your father’s face?"

His face had a look of urgency as he turned towards his father’s corpse.

And there, he saw it.

’Indeed.’ Harold seemed to feel relieved deep inside his heart as he saw the tiny curl on his father’s lips.

’He’s always been like that... quick to be angry, but always conservative when it comes to smiling...’

Remembering the habits of his father, he couldn’t help but smile.

A smile that was filled with happiness.

"Thank you."

The gratitude in Harold’s voice couldn’t be described with mere words.

"I’ll leave this demon to you... please take my heart. We’re already inseparable, it seems."

"Mhm."

Regis nodded as he pushed his sword deeper, making it exit the front of Harold’s chest along with his heart.

However, in the red, beating heart, a black marble seemed to be stuck in the middle.

What was stranger was the fact that it seemed to already be connected to the heart itself, as if it had already become part of it.

"Fuck!!! You!!! All!!!"

A faint demonic voice could be heard cursing in the wind.

However, it didn’t take long before it faded, not even leaving the slightest traces behind.
