Chapter 124: A Crazy Little Thing Called Shower

  • Next Chapter

It turned out that when he and Vanessa formed the soul contract, a rumble suddenly spread out in his consciousness.

Vanessa wasn’t able to clearly describe what happened since she was incapacitated.

She only described how she felt as if there was a high magnitude earthquake.

The only difference was that the earthquake she felt wasn’t only limited to the "ground", but in all directions as well.

Besides that, she hadn’t really known anything else.

She had also told Regis that his consciousness had already transformed by the time she woke up from her slumber.

As she finished speaking, a wild thought appeared in Regis’s mind, ’It might be far-fetched, but...’

At this moment, Vanessa pointed in a certain direction, "What’s weirder is that..."

Seeing her strange expression, Regis looked at where she was pointing which immediately made his eyes go wide in shock.

What greeted his sight was the numerous bodies of children.

Unlike Vanessa, they seemed to be abit illusory as their body was translucent.

They were only laying on the "ocean floor" without any signs of movement, as if they were all in a deep sleep.

If Regis hadn’t known better, he would have thought that they were dead.

However, as he looked closer at the familiar faces of the countless children, he immediately became surprised.

"Wait, they are...!!!"

Vanessa nodded in agreement, "Yes, you are right. They are the children that belonged to our batch of suicide soldiers."

"This..." Regis couldn’t believe it, her words only solidified his earlier assumption.

"But why do they look like... humans?"

The reason why he posed this question was quite simple.

In the past, besides Vanessa, the other children only looked to be balls of energy that floated in his consciousness.

But now, he could see that they already have their bodies.

Vanessa looked at him, "I was planning to ask you what you did, but it looks like you have no idea either."

"Sorry..."

"Don’t be silly. I’m still thankful about you being sincere in wanting to help me– us."

She chuckled as she gestured to the sleeping children.

After a moment, she spoke again.

This time, with an extremely serious expression, "Well, if I have to be honest. I think you can find some answers there."

Regis confusedly looked at the sky where she was pointing.

"Those three suns, particularly the largest one, seems to be the origin of all this."

"Why do you say tha—"

Before he could finish, he recognized the three suns that hung above in the sky.

It was not Regis could "see" it, but he could "feel" it. Like how a mother can recognize her lost children through instinct.

"Those suns..."

Weakpoint Creation

Tranquility

Perfect Adaptation

From smallest to highest, Regis was able to recognize his gifts.

"Why did they take that form?"

He muttered beneath his breath, unaware that Vanessa was only an inch away from him.

"Hey."

Her breath tickled his neck, causing him to flinch before looking at her in surprise.

At this moment, Vanessa shyly twiddled her fingers as she spoke, "Umm, so about my end of the deal..."

"That..." Regis couldn’t help but feel a little uncomfortable due to her change in mood.

However, he soon remembered what she stated in the contract which instantly made his blood boil.

"Speaking of which, did I tell you that you are such an idiot?"

TIK—

"Ow! Why did you flick me!?" Vanessa said with a wronged expression as she caressed her forehead.

"Nothing. It’s because you’re such an idiot."

"B-But it wasn’t my fault! My strange situation back then prevented me from thinking things through..."

Regis scratched the back of his head with an annoyed face, "Well, you can just forge–"

BA DUMP!!!

"Shit—!"

"What happened!?"

Vanessa hurriedly supported Regis whose knees suddenly buckled.

’What the hell...’

Clutching his head, he thought as he felt the searing pain in his head.

It was like his head was being split apart.

The pain spread to every fiber of his being as it became even more intense.

It didn’t take long before Regis lost his consciousness in Vanessa’s arms, who frowned at him in worry.

The next morning...

A pair of blood red eyes suddenly opened as the golden rays of the sun shone lightly.

"Urk!!!"

Regis groaned as he clutched his head, he also noticed that he was drenched in sweat.

"Shit, what was that!?"

Still feeling the soul splitting pain that assaulted his head, he almost shed tears.

Tok— Tok—

Hearing the knocks on the door, Regis raised his head and answered, "Come in."

Pat—

It took all his strength just to speak as he dropped back to the bed after.

"Brothe—?"

"Boss!"

Just as Pandora was about to enter, Killian excitedly rushed past her.

"Did you sleep well? Did anything make you uncomfortable? Just tell me and I will fix things right away!"

"Hey, hey, can you shut up for a moment? You’re making me dizzy..."

Regis spoke as he covered his eyes with his arm and asked, "Pandora, do you know why he’s like that?"

"I heard the maids talking that he would be going on a date with the Alchemy Hall Master’s daughter... so I think that that must be the reason."

Pandora "reported" with a serious expression on her face.

Killian looked at her strangely, "The maids...!? They must be gossiping behind my back!"

"Wait, I’ll just need to have a talk with them for a moment. If you’ll excuse me..."

Regis and Pandora then watched as he hurriedly left the room.

However, after a second, he peeked through the door and said, "By the way, we’ll be leaving for the Temple of Light in two hours so make sure to be ready by then!"

"Okay, I’ll really be going now!" Killian’s head disappeared from the door as he left, his footsteps soon echoing through the hallway.

With his hands as a pivot, Regis sat up with difficulty, "Right, there’s also that..."

Remembering their agendas, he carefully slid down the bed as he clutched his head.

Noticing his strange actions, Pandora tilted her head confusedly, "Why are you holding your head like that, Brother? Do you feel sick?"

"No..." Regis smiled slightly as he shook his head, "I just slept a little too well. It’s my first time sleeping in a bed like this, after all."

Hearing him, Pandora’s eyes suddenly brightened, "Me too! Besides that, do you know that they have a thing here called shower!? It’s the best!!!"

"A shower?" He asked with a frown, feeling intrigued.

After all, the only other thing that Pandora had interest in was sparkling jewelries.

Not being able to contain her excitement, she turned around, "Look! Do you see that my hair is wet!?"

"Oh, so you took a bath?"

"Yes, but with a shower! It really feels nice to the skin since you can adjust the temperature to your liking..."

As he listened to her rants about the so-called shower, Regis looked down and saw that his clothes were also drenched in sweat.

Coupled with the sticky feeling that made his clothes cling to his body, he felt uncomfortable.

"I want to try this shower too..."

Pandora audibly gasped in excitement as she held him by the hand, "Let me guide you, Brother!"

"Sure~"

Regis smiled carefreely as he let himself be dragged by her.

They ran through the hallways, greeting the maids and butlers they met on the way.

’Hmmm, so I assume that they’re the secret force of the Gladius Family that Killian had mentioned...’

He thought as his eyes wandered at the faces of each person they met.

Before they set out for the mission, he remembered that the mansion had initially been empty.

But when they returned, maids and butlers had welcomed them at the entrance.

As his mind wandered, they soon arrived in front of a door that seemed to be different from the others since a large part of it was made with opaque glass.

"We’re here, Brother!" Pandora exclaimed as she excitedly opened the door for him.

Stepping inside, Regis looked around and muttered to himself, "It’s clean..."

"Brother, I know that you have a lot on your mind so take your time! I’ll go ahead and bring you a new set of clothes."

As Pandora was about to leave, she looked as if she remembered something, "Oh and before I forgot, I recommend turning the knob all the way in the direction of the red color. It’s really refreshing!!"

Hearing her footsteps that were gradually fading over in the distance, Regis chuckled and shook his head.

’Silly girl. She’s worried about me, huh?’

He thought as he remembered Pandora’s efforts to cheer him up.

"So let’s see... this is a shower, huh?"

Regis said as he looked at the strange apparatus with numerous holes on it.

His sight wandered over the knob just below the apparatus where two colors were present on each side: blue and red.

"She told me to turn the knob all the way to the direction of the red color, right?"

SPLASH—

"What the hell!?"

As the first wave of water touched his skin, Regis felt as if he was being burnt alive.

"She called this refreshing!?"

"In what hell is this refreshing!?"

Regis shouted as he reached out to the knob once again.

However, before he could turn it, something happened which caused his eyes to widen in shock.

"Why..."

"...is it not hot anymore?"

He had just been showered by the "molten lava" for a few seconds before the pain suddenly disappeared.

What followed after was the feeling of his Perfect Adaptation’s activation.

"My gift has never activated this fast before."

Regis frowned as his thoughts began to wander back when he was still inside his consciousness.
