Chapter 128: Lux Aeterna

"What a cheeky kid..."

Alexis sighed as he looked at the lone moon in the night sky.

Creak—

Opening the window panes, he felt the breeze of wind caressing his face.

It made his white robe flutter slightly while the soft moonlight casted its illumination over his figure.

Thinking back to his conversation with Regis earlier, Alexis couldn’t help but chuckle.

"To think that he would be able to instantly gauge his worth and offer a condition that was not too much..."

I want the chance for me and all my companions to be able to attend Grandella Academy in the future...

"...a chance, huh?" Alexis repeated the words that lingered in his mind.

In fact, if Regis’s condition was for him or them to be directly admitted to the Grandella Academy, it would have been too much.

Well, it may be possible if he was the only one, but bringing his friends with him would be impossible.

However, since all he asked for was a "chance" for them to be able to attend...

...then it makes things a lot more simple.

"I guess it’s worth it since I would be able to form a connection with someone whose talent could only be said to be one in a billion..."

Even now, Alexis was still dumbfounded at the fact that he found someone with pure light affinity.

Looking at his hand, he muttered, "A light affinity that isn’t borrowed... I wonder how powerful it will be in the future."

"Still, I don’t know what’s going on in that child’s mind."

Remembering the look in Regis’s eyes, Alexis took a deep breath, ’The two other children, Pandora and Killian were they? They’re also outstanding, but that child Regis... he was different."

He couldn’t quite put his finger on it as the feeling he got from that white haired boy was too mysterious.

"Anyways, I still need to report this to the headquarters..."

Closing the window behind him, Alexis got to work as he picked up a pen and a paper before proceeding to write his report.

The next day...

Pandora just got out of the bath and hurriedly knocked at Regis’s room.

Tok— Tok—

"Brother! Are you there?" She called out with a somewhat loud voice.

At this moment, a maid who was holding some laundry passed by, "Young Miss, Young Master Regis is at the Training Grounds."

"Ehhh?" Pandora felt surprised at the maid’s words, "Thank you."

Seeing her run, a smile appeared on the maid’s face, "I’m glad that Young Master Killian has made some good friends..."

"...I’m sure that you would be happy if you were here, Master."

She muttered as she looked at the portrait of an elegant man on the wall.

The elegant man, like Killian, had blonde hair and blue eyes as well as a handsome face that women would surely drool over.

"Though I wonder if the Young Master also takes fancy on her—"

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Eeek!"

The maid flinched as she heard a familiar voice behind her.

"Y-Young Master Killian!"

Killian shook his head with a helpless expression, "I told all of you already, I have no plans on Pandora."

"Yes, we know. It’s just that I really find it hard to believe..."

"Whatever..." Killian rolled his eyes before speaking in the next second, "By the way, is Regis in his room?"

The maid shook her head, "No, he’s at the Training Grounds."

"Really? I’ll get going then."

"Take care, Young Master."

However, before Killian could take any further step, he stopped, "Um, by the way..."

"What is it, Young Master?"

"Thank you."

"For what?" The maid tilted her head.

"I’m glad that you all didn’t take the chance to leave... that’s all."

As if not able to contain his embarrassment any longer, Killian stormed off and ran quickly.

"How cute..." the maid said as a soft smile appeared on her lips.

Looking at his departing back, she muttered beneath her breath, "No, Young Master. We should be the ones to thank you."

"After all, you are the only one who saw us as humans..."

In the Training Grounds...

The Gladius Family’s held it in high regard as this was the birthplace of many great swordmasters.

It was a large area that looked to at least be larger than a football field.

The ground was made with sturdy marble that was shiny and looked new even if it had countless sword marks on it.

Racks filled with wooden swords were at the northern side of the open field.

However, the most eye-catching component of the Training Grounds was the large dark yellow flag on the wall above it.

The massive dark yellow flag had the crest of the Gladius Family in it.

It consisted of what looked to be a countless variety of swords of different types and kinds that was forming one large sword as a whole.

’It’s really intricate and amazing... I can’t help but feel some faint pressure from it.’

A white haired boy in the midle of the Training Grounds thought to himself as he stared at the flag in wonder.

It was none other than Regis.

He looked around in wonder, feeling surprised at how huge this area was.

’This area alone might have been bigger than the slums...’ Thought Regis as he sat on the ground while looking at the enormous ceiling.

After a short while, he focused his attention on the worn out book in front of him.

"Let’s see..."

Regis caressed the book, feeling its cover that seemed to bend the light around him.

What’s stranger was the fact that the texture of the book seemed like it would fall apart at any second.

Though at the same time, it felt like no matter what he did to it, it wouldn’t break.

"Lux Aeterna..."

Muttering the title of the book under his breath, Regis took a deep breath.

’Since I can’t seem to go back to my consciousness for now, I’ll just focus on learning what’s in this book.’

When he woke up earlier, Regis had tried to enter his consciousness countless times.

However, every time he did so, a soul-splitting pain would wreak havoc in his mind, making him feel like he would die.

Therefore, he decided to let it be and prioritize things that which he could control.

Looking at Lux Aeterna in his hands, Regis remembered the things that Alexis had said to him yesterday.

Holy Knights like Alexis, no matter if they had an affinity or not, would be able to somewhat access the power of light affinity through their connection with Lemetina.

The said connection could only be strengthened through the number of holy light baptisms that they received.

For someone like Alexis, he could cast a light aura art for every point of the star that was blessed with the golden divine power.

However, he could only learn one aura art for every blessed star that he had.

At present, he was already at the Early Stage of the Four Star Realm and was already a Grail Knight, it meant that the point of his stars already reached 21.

Three of his aura stars had six points while his fourth star had three.

Since he was the head of the branch of Light Temple, the holy light baptisms he received could be said to be numerous.

This was enough for all of his stars to have some golden glow at their center.

With 4 blessed stars and 21 star points, he could have 4 light aura arts at his disposal which he could use about 21 times a day.

However, the point was the fact that the Temple of Light didn’t lack holy knights that could utilize light aura arts.

At this moment, a frown appeared on Regis’s forehead as he remembered one vital thing.

The reason why Alexis described the book he chose to be something that was useless.

"He said that many holy knights had tried learning what was recorded in this book, but all of them were met with tragic ends."

Some holy knights burst into a pool of blood, some had their bodies suddenly shattered to pieces, while some just disappeared, only leaving behind their bloodied clothes.

All the stories that were acquainted with Lux Aeterna could only be described as like the horror stories parents would tell their children in order to scare them.

Still, this didn’t even make Regis’s heart waver as his eyes were filled with determined light.

He didn’t know why, may be it was because of his newly strengthened "instinct", or maybe not.

However, he could clearly feel the connection between him and the book.

Thus, Regis didn’t waste anymore time.

After he had recounted all the information he currently had, he finally opened the book.

"What is this..."

The letters seemed to be both incomprehensible and comprehensible.

He couldn’t understand them, but he could feel like he was understanding them at the same time.

It was strange, to the point that the runic letters suddenly danced around.

Regis then felt his aura circulating by itself as his one aura star began to spontaneously shine on his chest.

A connection seemed to be formed between his very being and the book as pristine white light erupted, covering the whole Training Grounds.
