Chapter 289: Request for Reinforcement

  • Next Chapter

Acheron Kingdom, Harmonia, Adventurer Guild.

Inside the Branch Leader’s Office, a dwarven man with a thick beard and muscular body had a panicked expression as he read the letter in his hand.

The bright rays of sunshine illuminated the room through the window, in stark contrast to his expression, which was getting gloomier by the second.

"This can’t be..."

His rough voice echoed softly in the room, his muscular hands and fingers trembling, making the letter look as if it were about to rip apart at any second.

On his desk, a nameplate could be seen.

Adventurer Guild Branch Leader Remington.

The dwarven branch leader’s lush brown hair was tied into braids like a Viking, and the same for his thick brown beard.

Although he looked rough and muscular just like most dwarves, his hairs were unbelievably combed neatly, clearly maintained well.

Nevertheless, the deep wrinkles that appeared on his face showed that he was anything but relaxed.

"To think that Ligera would run out of manpower..."

Remington began pacing around the room as he could no longer sit still at his desk.

"This is a problem. To think that demon worshippers will invade Edenelia..."

The dwarven branch leader had disbelief written all over this place, "How did the demon worshippers do it? The elves’ territory, the Forest of Eternity, where Edenelia was established, had natural protective magic arrays, not to mention that elves are blessed by nature and mana! Why did the demons target them?"

He really could not think of a reason why the demon worshippers would choose to attack the powerful elves due to the latter’s sheer prowess, especially when it came to magic.

Remington shook his head afterwards, "No, if the demon worshippers dared to attack Edenlia, there must be someone powerful backing them up... Like a Demon Lord."

’That’s even more serious...’

He felt panic building up inside him as he glanced at the letter in his hand.

At the very top of it, the following was written: Request for Reinforcement.

However, the reason why Remington’s expression became extremely grave was because of one major reason.

Harmonia, as the satellite city of Ligera, was established in order to form good relations with Acheron, the kingdom in which it was built, and also to monitor the demon activities within the area, especially due to the fact that the Devil of Despair and Destruction, Agaroth, almost descended on the Toran City of the past.

However, when it came to other kingdoms or temples requesting reinforcements, they would send them directly to Ligera through various means.

Now, the elves’ request for reinforcement reached Harmonia.

This only meant one thing.

"Ligera’s lacking in manpower or can’t send reinforcement for the meantime, and they had no choice but to forward the letter to us... Besides, since this letter, which would normally only be received by the City Lord and the Church of Light’s branch, landed on my desk..."

Remington could only imagine the reason for the prestigious Ligera to even send this letter to Adventurer Guild Branches.

However, this could be summarized shortly: They are desperate for reinforcements.

That’s simple.

"But the letter’s demands are too strange. They want me to only request from people I absolutely trust. Why is that? In the past, posting this on the bulletin boards of the Adventurer Guild’s building was enough..."

Remington could not help but tilt his head, his eyes flashing with curiosity, "People that I can trust, huh? Especially those with strong willpower?"

As he read the notes in the letter repeatedly, he could not help but find it stranger and stranger.

Nevertheless, Remington sat back at his desk as he began writing three letters.

"I’ll need to write to the best adventurer corporations I know, since the letter indicated that it needed large autonomous forces..."

His mutterings echoed softly in the room as his hands worked extremely fast to the point that they began to leave afterimages.

"I’ll need to write one for the Golden Lions, Moonlit Warriors, Feral Beast Troupe..."

Remington suddenly paused for a moment, "Should I..."

After thinking for a moment, he decided to write one more letter.

"For the Sanguine Order..."

Harmonia City Hall, in the City Lord’s Office...

Renoir, who was still in his butler suit, his hands gloved as he placed them on his stomach with an upright posture.

His black cat ears were droopy, and even his black tail was still at this moment.

In front of him, Reinhardt had just finished reading a letter with his brows slightly furrowed as he massaged his temple.

"Those damned demonic worshippers..."

Seething anger could be vividly felt in his tone.

"What should we do, My Lord?" Renoir asked with a steady tone.

Reinhardt heaved a deep sigh, "I cannot send them Harmonia’s own forces, as it would compromise the security of the city..."

The city lord fell into deep thought with his personal butler waiting patiently without a sound.

After a few moments, Reinhardt raised his head and spoke, "Although we can’t send our own forces, we can still provide support. Notify Remington that the adventurer corporations who will accept the request for reinforcement would be supported by the council itself."

"Whatever supplies they may need, such as potions, weapons, armor, food, water— everything. We’ll also be giving storage artifacts, so they would not need to worry about transporting the supplies." He added after a slight pause.

Renoir bowed, "Understood, My Lord."

Whoosh—-

All it took was a blink for the figure of the bowing Renoir to instantly disappear.

"..."

After a few seconds, a hesitant expression appeared on Reinhardt’s face.

"Should I move as well?"

Though he shook his head in the next moment, "No, it’s too early..."

Reinhardt rotated his chair with a pivot of his foot, gazing at the view outside his window as he muttered under his breath.

"I’ll make my move... if a Demon Lord or a Devil descends..."

Harmonia City, Central District, Gilded Row...

Regis and the others were currently meeting at the round table, with various quest flyers scattered on it.

"So, have you guys decided what quest we’ll be doi—"

Woong!

Before Regis could finish speaking, a figure suddenly appeared in front of him.

It was a black bird like a crow with purplish runic patterns going all over its body, emitting a sacred and magical feeling.

"A messenger bird of the Adventurer Guild?"

Regis’s voice was laced with confusion as he took the letter tied onto the messenger bird’s leg.
