Chapter 346: Arrival of an Executor

  • Next Chapter

Inside Regis’s consciousness world...

Above the island surrounded by an endless sea, the suns served as some kind of projector as a gigantic screen blanketed the sky.

The screen showed what was happening in the outside world through Regis’s eyes.

On the shore were 12 people who were all looking upward at the screen.

From the main squad, Killian, Pandora, and Aurelia remained.

"It should’ve been me who died, not Brutt..." Perto muttered absentmindedly as he and Vanessa mourned the death of their comrade.

Of the six members of the Gotun Squad, only the crying Morgana and Rumi were left.

The Equilla Squad was still complete as Aeola and Raxon cared for the injured Marzana, who had also just woken up.

As for the Exemplar Squad... they had been wiped out.

Auryn and Patti glanced at the survivors, feeling as though a hand was gripping their hearts tightly.

Their gazes showed various emotions such as disbelief, shock, worry, sadness, hatred, and... betrayal.

"Did you know something about this?" Patti’s voice broke the silence that had lingered for who knew how long.

However, at this moment, everyone turned towards Pandora, Killian, and Aurelia.

Patti and Auryn, specifically, looked towards their little sister with inquisitive gazes. They felt as though their hearts were being squeezed tight.

Seeing that she remained silent, Auryn asked as well. "Aurelia, did you know anything about this?"

’!!!’

Aurelia’s pupils constricted at her sister’s words. They had never stopped calling her "Lia," not even after learning that she had been the one who turned them to gold back then—even if it had only been a mistake.

But now, after seeing Regis’s demonized form, they called her by her full name as though she were a stranger.

"Haaa..."

At this moment, the various thoughts swirling inside Aurelia’s mind came to a halt as she let out a deep breath. She then held back the tears threatening to spill from her eyes as she met her big brother and big sister’s gazes head-on.

"Yes, I do." Her voice did not tremble in the slightest, and her gaze remained steady as she knew that she had done nothing wrong.

Patti frowned as he spoke, "How could you ally with a demon—"

"Regis is not a demon!" Aurelia shouted without any regard for her siblings, much to their shock.

Auryn’s eyes softened. "What do you mean? If he’s not a demon, then what is he—"

"He is human. He’s nothing but a human," Aurelia answered firmly.

The hatred towards demons had been deeply rooted in every living being in this world. Therefore, it was not strange for the Midas siblings to react this way. After all, humans with red irises—the same color as those of demons—were called Devil’s Spawns and looked down upon as inferior beings.

Before Auryn could ask further, Patti stopped her and looked around as he asked out loud, "Who among you here knew nothing about this?"

After a few moments, hands rose into the air one by one.

Aside from Auryn and Patti, the only ones who raised their hands were Raxon and Aeola, much to their surprise.

Patti glanced at everyone once again as he calmed down. "So almost all of you are aware of his true nature—"

"Stop that."

This time, everyone was surprised again as Pandora’s voice resounded through this strange island.

Her ruby-red eyes gleamed eerily as she said in a low but firm voice. "One more time. If you dare speak about my dear brother in that annoying tone of yours, I’ll gladly take your life."

Beside her, yellow sparks manifested as Killian’s usually playful eyes squinted with killing intent.

The Midas siblings did not speak any further, but the energy fluctuations from their bodies spoke louder than any words. Even Aurelia did not know what to do at this moment as the atmosphere continued to grow tenser by the second.

"Ah, alright, alright~."

Vanessa positioned herself between them as she spoke in a relaxed voice even though her reddish eyes betrayed her true feelings. "Whenever Regis isn’t present, it’s time for the big sister to manage things in his stead~."

At this moment, Auryn, Patti, Pandora, and Killian all came to their senses after her intervention.

It was only then that the tense atmosphere calmed down a bit.

Vanessa cleared her throat as she spoke, "Let me start from the beginning—the time when I first met Regis after we were kidnapped by demonic humans."

"!!!"

Everyone could not help but become curious as they found themselves unconsciously leaning forward as she began telling them what she knew about Regis’s past.

After all, even Killian and Pandora were not privy to the exact details of his past.

"First and foremost, Regis is not a demon. Let me make that clear..."

Vanessa then began telling them about the time they were forced to absorb demonic power, their first murder, their first village massacre, and the various atrocities they had committed afterward.

Eventually, her story reached that one fight in Toran City, where she vividly remembered how their souls had been fused together, how Regis fought them, freed them, and ultimately gave them a new life.

***

While everyone was listening to her story, the fight in the outside world had become even more violent as the Sanctuary of Life and Death had long been turned to ruins.

"Hah... Hah... Hah..."

Regis had difficulty standing as he gasped for breath. One of his horns had been broken off, and he no longer willed it to regenerate in order to conserve every last bit of his energy.

Standing a few meters away was none other than Aziza, whose body once again looked completely unscathed. However, her expression was slightly pale, while the tentacles connecting her to the portal of the Realm of Evil had visibly thinned and decreased in number.

Just as the two of them were at a rare standstill...

Woosh!

A figure with wings of light arrived on the battlefield, catching their attention.

As the light surrounding the figure faded away, a flawlessly beautiful female elf with long white hair and golden eyes was revealed.

The mysterious female elf was none other than one of the Temple of Light’s Executors.

The Executor of Chastity, Levada.
