Chapter 982: Chapter 979: The Haunted House Adventure
After hanging up, Gu Xiaoning felt nothing but bitterness.
So this time... is Le Zhengsheng doing this because it’s the last time?
Sitting in the car, Gu Xiaoning was still a little worried. "Asheng, how long are we going for?"
"If there’s no traffic, about an hour’s drive."
Gu Xiaoning: ...
That wasn’t what she meant.
"I mean, how many days are we staying?"
Le Zhengsheng hooked his lips into a smile; he’d teased her on purpose just now. "Three days, two nights."
"Ah?" Gu Xiaoning gave a soft little gasp, frowned. "This..."
"What’s wrong?" Le Zhengsheng was a bit displeased.
He knew she was now Ling Yu’s chef, and if it were up to him, he’d just have told Gu Xiaoning to quit. But he didn’t have that standing right now, so he could only swallow his irritation. "It’s rare that we’re going out with Jiujiu. Can’t you ask for leave?"
Gu Xiaoning glanced down at Jiujiu, who was lying on her lap, mouth slightly open in sleep, and her heart melted into a puddle.
"Mm." She nodded. "I’ll ask for some time off."
She pulled out her phone and called Ling Yu. "Hello, Young Master Ling."
Young Master Ling? Le Zhengsheng heard it clearly. Ha... so Ningning really has zero interest in Ling Yu.
"Mm, thank you, Young Master Ling."
When she hung up, in the front seat, Le Zhengsheng happily started whistling.
"Asheng!" Gu Xiaoning hurriedly shot him a look, eyes signaling frantically. "Keep it down!"
"...Oh." Le Zhengsheng got glared at, but his mood was great.
Sitting behind him were the two most important women in his life.
...
They arrived at the amusement park and went straight to the hotel first.
Gu Xiaoning was a bit dumbfounded, because Le Zhengsheng had only booked one room. So how were they going to sleep?
"You and Jiujiu sleep on the bed, I’ll stay on the sofa and watch over you." Le Zhengsheng looked completely sincere. "I promise."
"Then... you sleep on the sofa outside." Gu Xiaoning said in a tiny voice.
Le Zhengsheng raised a brow. Ningning really had changed! Why was she suddenly so cautious? Back then, for their "first kiss," she was the one who took the initiative! How is it that she’s only aged two years, but her mindset’s turned into that of a little old lady?
"Alright then."
Le Zhengsheng agreed perfunctorily. Anyway, once it was nighttime, who knew what would happen.
...
After a quick freshen-up, they started on the rides.
They hadn’t expected the first attraction to be the haunted house.
Gu Xiaoning glared at Le Zhengsheng. Seriously?
Uh... Le Zhengsheng was a bit confused too. This route had been arranged by Liao Jingqing.
In fact, Liao Jingqing meant well. Seeing how the Director thought about Gu Xiaoning day and night... as his secretary, of course he had to be proactive. Haunted houses—how many couples get together in there?
"Honestly." Gu Xiaoning hugged Jiujiu. "You’re not afraid of scaring Jiujiu?"
Le Zhengsheng hesitated too, but Jiujiu was bursting with excitement, wriggling around in Gu Xiaoning’s arms. "Go, go... go!"
The parents looked at each other and could only go along with it.
Gu Xiaoning instructed Le Zhengsheng, "If Jiujiu gets scared later, you pick her up and rush out as fast as you can, got it?"
"Oh!" Le Zhengsheng nodded heavily, feeling like someone had just placed a huge burden on his shoulders.
As soon as they entered, a gust of cold wind blew past.
Cold sweat broke out on Gu Xiaoning and she shuddered.
"Daddy, cold cold..." Jiujiu wasn’t scared at all; she just felt chilly and burrowed into her daddy’s warm arms.
Le Zhengsheng was smug. "My girl takes after me—she’s got guts!"
They kept walking, and two vampires came straight toward them...
Jiujiu stared wide-eyed. "Pwitty!"
She was saying they were pretty.
Vampires: ...
But Gu Xiaoning’s palms were clenched tight. Suddenly, a skeleton floated right in front of her. She hadn’t noticed at first and even swung her arm right into it, and the skull came off and dropped to the ground!
"Ah!" Gu Xiaoning was terrified and cried out.
She backed up repeatedly, and then someone patted her on the shoulder...
"Ah... don’t touch me!" Gu Xiaoning was scared out of her wits. She clutched her head, shaking it over and over.
Le Zhengsheng froze. Was it really... that scary?
In his arms, Jiujiu’s round eyes looked up at her daddy. Mommy seemed to be crying. "Daddy, Mommy, cwying..."
"Ningning!" Le Zhengsheng hurriedly grabbed Gu Xiaoning’s hand. "Okay, we’re not going any further. We’re going out right now!"
At last, they saw daylight again.
Gu Xiaoning’s eyes were red, her tears not yet dried, her heartbeat still racing.
Holding Jiujiu, father and daughter didn’t dare say a word. Was Mommy... angry?
"Jiujiu, go cheer Mommy up, okay?"
Le Zhengsheng played his trump card. Jiujiu nodded, leaning her body toward Gu Xiaoning.
Gu Xiaoning took Jiujiu into her arms, still shaken.
"Mommy." Jiujiu’s chubby little hands rubbed all over Gu Xiaoning’s face. "No cwy, no be scawed."
Looking at her daughter, Gu Xiaoning thought, truly, newborn calves aren’t afraid of tigers. Jiujiu was perfectly fine, while she’d cried so miserably!
Thinking about it that way, she couldn’t help finding it funny. "Pfft..."
"Hee-hee." Seeing Mommy laugh, Jiujiu got happy too. "Hee-hee..."
"You." Le Zhengsheng finally let out a breath, lifting his hand to gently rub the top of Gu Xiaoning’s head. "You’re still just a kid yourself."
Yeah, at her age, if she hadn’t met him, she’d still be in her willful, naïve stage.
After that, Le Zhengsheng didn’t dare take mother and daughter on any dangerous rides. He chose the gentle ferris wheel.
Maybe because it was too peaceful, Jiujiu actually lost interest. The little one lay on Daddy’s shoulder, eyelids drooping.
In no time, she was dozing off, drooling...
Suddenly, there was a click, and it seemed to stop moving.
Gu Xiaoning was startled. "What happened?"
Le Zhengsheng frowned. "You’ve got to be kidding me. Even a place like this can have a malfunction?"
Clang, crash!
All at once, they dropped straight down. Gu Xiaoning was terrified. "Asheng..."
"I’m here." With one arm holding Jiujiu, Le Zhengsheng extended the other to wrap around Gu Xiaoning’s waist, pulling her into his arms. "Don’t be scared, it’s okay... nothing’s going to happen."
Thud!
They jerked to a stop.
"Ah!" Gu Xiaoning had no idea what was happening, eyes squeezed shut as she burrowed into Le Zhengsheng’s chest.
It took quite a while before she felt the surroundings go quiet...
She lifted her head and met Le Zhengsheng’s burning gaze. Her cheeks flared red in an instant. "I—I didn’t mean to... mm..."
Le Zhengsheng lowered his head and kissed her.
Asheng... Gu Xiaoning wanted to push him away.
"Don’t move." Le Zhengsheng scared her on purpose. "If you move, we might fall again!"
At her waist was the searing heat of his palm.
Gu Xiaoning froze and really didn’t dare move anymore. She didn’t even dare speak loudly. "Then what do we do? Just stay like this... mm..."
Le Zhengsheng kissed her again, sealing away all her sounds and worries.
It was too intense, and Gu Xiaoning went limp in his arms.
Le Zhengsheng’s breath was slightly uneven, his chin resting against the top of her head as he spoke in a low voice. "Ningning, you... got taller."
"Hm?" Gu Xiaoning was surprised. "What?" Le Zhengsheng glanced down at her soles. "Flat shoes... I remember when you wore flats before, you didn’t reach my chin. Now you’re wearing flats again, and my chin fits right on top of your head."
He paid that much attention...
