God-Tier Extraction Talent: Reincarnated in a Game-like World!
Chapter 680: The Goblin Leader’s Weapon
The black spear carried a piercing shriek through the air, thrusting directly at Gabriel’s chest.
Clang!
Crimson Judgement intercepted the spear.
The two weapons collided, and large cracks instantly appeared in the ground nearby. Gabriel’s body shook slightly, and his feet slid backward across the broken stone.
What powerful strength!
This giant goblin was clearly much stronger than the commander he had encountered at the Third Defensive Line. Whether in raw strength, speed, or the density of its mana, the difference was enormous, especially that black spear.
Every collision sent a cold, sinister force attempting to invade his body through Crimson Judgement. If not for the Godslayer Spark resisting that strange mixture of corruption and divine power, even Gabriel would have suffered greatly from the first exchange.
Gabriel’s eyes lit up slightly.
It seemed this fellow had quite a few good things on it.
The black spear was clearly no ordinary piece of equipment. Not only could it withstand the tremendous force of Crimson Judgement, but the dark-red patterns covering its shaft seemed to contain some kind of terrifying power.
Gabriel was already beginning to wonder how he could get his hands on it after killing its owner.
The giant goblin clearly hadn’t expected Gabriel to block its attack head-on. It was about to continue attacking when Gabriel actually took the initiative to step forward.
"Not bad."
Gabriel looked at it.
"You should be worth quite a few points."
Giant goblin: "..."
The next instant, both sides collided again.
Boom!
The massive impact directly sent the goblins standing nearby stumbling backward, and the originally crowded battlefield suddenly opened into a large empty area.
The black spear struck three times in rapid succession, each thrust carrying enough force to pierce through the thick stone slabs beneath their feet.
Gabriel blocked the first two attacks with Crimson Judgement, but the third forced him to retreat several meters.
His expression gradually became more serious.
This fellow wasn’t merely strong. Its spear technique was also extremely vicious.
The giant goblin appeared to possess enough combat experience to recognize the weight and limitations of Gabriel’s greatsword, repeatedly attacking from angles that made it difficult for him to bring the massive blade around in time.
If he continued exchanging blows like this, he would eventually suffer a disadvantage.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the old altar, Sophie suddenly looked up.
She didn’t continue watching Gabriel’s battle, because just now, the Sacred Tree had transmitted an extremely intense feeling to her.
Danger. And It was from that black spear.
Sophie could sense that every time the giant goblin used the spear, the corruption within the withered primary root would react accordingly. Especially around the remaining three dark-red nails, the corrupted power that had gradually begun to settle was stirring again.
Even the damaged lock surrounding the nails seemed to be responding.
Her expression changed slightly.
"Edgar!"
Edgar immediately turned his head.
"What’s wrong?"
Sophie pointed at the black spear.
"Don’t let it touch the withered primary root!"
Edgar followed her gaze and soon noticed the anomaly.
Every time the giant goblin launched an attack, the dark-red patterns on the surface of the black spear would light up, and the corrupted primary root beneath the altar would tremble faintly.
That wasn’t ordinary mana resonance. It was more like some kind of connection that had existed long before the battle began.
Edgar’s expression gradually grew solemn.
"That weapon..." Sophie nodded. "It’s stirring the corruption inside the root."
If the giant goblin managed to drive that spear into the damaged lock, the three remaining nails might become active again. The corruption they had spent so much effort suppressing could spread even farther.
Thinking of this, Sophie immediately sent her intention into the surrounding forest.
Golden-green light flickered in the depths of her eyes, and the forest answered.
One thick tree root after another rose from the ground, extending toward the center of the old altar.
This time, Sophie didn’t direct them toward the goblins. What she needed to do was protect the withered primary root, one of the World Tree’s seven primary roots.
At least before Gabriel dealt with the giant goblin, its weapon absolutely could not be allowed to aggravate the corruption any further.
"Protect it." Sophie spoke softly.
The next moment—
Rumble!
Large numbers of tree roots surged upward, quickly forming a thick wall between the giant goblin and the exposed section of the withered primary root.
The giant goblin fighting in the distance immediately noticed the change, and its expression darkened.
It had already recognized Sophie’s connection to the Sacred Tree during their earlier confrontation. Seeing her interfere again only made its killing intent grow stronger.
"Do you think that will stop me?"
The giant goblin suddenly changed its grip on the black spear.
Dark-red patterns flashed.
Boom!
It drove the spear toward the root wall with tremendous force.
The impact blasted apart several thick roots, scattering wood fragments across the altar. However, before the spear could reach the withered primary root behind them, more roots twisted together and filled the opening.
Sophie staggered slightly, but the wall held.
"Edgar, protect the nails!"
"I know!"
Silver-green threads shot outward, intercepting several armored goblins that had taken advantage of the distraction to rush toward Sophie.
The six elves also shifted their positions, concentrating their arrows on the approaching enemies.
For a moment, the entire altar shook beneath the combined assault.
The giant goblin’s eyes grew increasingly vicious. It suddenly turned the spear around and thrust directly toward Gabriel, forcing him to raise Crimson Judgement to defend himself.
Then it roared toward the goblins behind it.
"Break through! Tear down that wall!"
Several elite goblins immediately abandoned the frontal assault and rushed toward Sophie.
