Chapter 841: Catching the Food Thief

"Damn it. So what about my food delivery?"

"Who's going to take responsibility?"

"My money! My food!"

Jiang Ran roared inside.

After that, his gaze drifted to the security room nearby, and so he walked into the security room with a glimmer of hope. Inside were the two new security guards, Xue Kai and Zhang Wei.

When he saw them, Jiang Ran asked directly if they had seen anyone come to pick up food deliveries or anything like that.

The two naturally shook their heads.

They said they'd been in the security room the whole time and hadn't seen anything.

Jiang Ran gave up.

He walked out of the security room in a daze, about to head back to Building No. 1.

After walking a few dozen meters, he was suddenly stopped by a shout.

"Hey! Jiang Ran!"

Turning around, it was actually Zhang Yao.

Jiang Ran tilted his head in confusion: "Something up?"

Zhang Yao gave him a sinister grin, and that sinister grin made Jiang Ran's skin crawl all over.

Zhang Yao said mysteriously, "Jiang Ran, did you lose your food delivery?"

Jiang Ran was a bit surprised: "Yeah, how did you know?"

Zhang Yao let out a cold laugh: "To be honest, I lost my food delivery once before too. Ever since I lost it, I've been watching that delivery rack nonstop, and finally, just now, I found you - the newest victim!"

Ever since losing his food delivery, Zhang Yao had been crouching persistently on the rooftop of Building No. 2.

This time, Jiang Ran's mouth dropped open in even greater shock: "I just asked the rider who delivered my food. He said someone else from our apartment complex had lost their food delivery before too. So that was you!!!"

Zhang Yao waved his hand, extremely excited: "That's not important. What matters is, do you want to know who took your food?"

Jiang Ran: "Of course!"

Zhang Yao pulled out his phone and showed him a photo.

Zhang Yao's phone was pretty decent, actually.

The photo had clearly been zoomed in when taken.

Frowning, Jiang Ran stared at the photo on the phone.

In the photo was a little boy carrying a food delivery.

Zhang Yao said, "This kid came out to pick up food just before you did. When I saw you go to grab yours later and your weird reaction at the delivery rack, I suspected this kid was the one who took your food."

"Tsk, what a rotten kid..."

Jiang Ran was speechless: "We need to go find him."

Zhang Yao nodded.

Jiang Ran asked, "Do you know which apartment this kid lives in?"

Zhang Yao said, "Why not just ask Manager Wu Meiling?"

So the two of them went to ask Manager Wu Meiling.

Manager Wu Meiling listened as Jiang Ran explained his lost food delivery and saw the photo.

She thought for a moment and said, "This little boy's name is Jin Hai. He just moved in. He lives in Room 301 of our Building No. 2. Come on, I'll go with you."

Manager Wu Meiling even grabbed the spare key to Room 301, which put Jiang Ran and Zhang Yao somewhat at ease.

A few minutes later, the three of them stood outside the door of Room 301.

Zhang Yao was the first to ring the doorbell.

All three of them assumed they'd have to ring several times for the door to open, or that it wouldn't open at all.

But what happened surprised them all.

Zhang Yao rang once, and the door swung open.

The one who opened the door was exactly the little boy from the photo.

This little boy named Jin Hai looked at the three adults standing outside his door.

His whole demeanor turned timid.

In a very small voice, he asked, "Hello, big brother and big sister. Is there something you need?"

Zhang Yao spoke first, his tone ice-cold: "Little brat, did you take our food deliveries?"

Jin Hai said quietly, "Food deliveries? No? I didn't take your food deliveries!"

Zhang Yao gave a sinister smile: "Still not admitting it?"

With that, he shoved forward with his hand.

Jin Hai, who only had the body of a ten-year-old, naturally couldn't withstand an adult man pushing the door open.

So he was shoved and fell flat on his backside.

Zhang Yao gave him a cold glare and strode inside.

Jiang Ran, following behind, reached out and helped Jin Hai up.

"Thank you, big brother!"

Jin Hai blinked his eyes and thanked Jiang Ran.

Facing this polite little boy.

Jiang Ran couldn't quite put his feelings into words.

Because he was pretty sure that this little boy in front of him had most likely taken his food delivery, and who knows when he'd taken Zhang Yao's too. In his mind, this little boy should have been the arrogant, domineering, troublemaking little devil type.

But he never expected this little food thief to be so polite.

Zhang Yao walked into the house and reached the living room, where he saw a half-eaten food delivery sitting on the table.

He quickly called Jiang Ran over to confirm.

Jiang Ran hurried over and found that it was indeed his food delivery.

Of course, to be absolutely sure, he checked the delivery slip on the packaging. It had his name and his phone number.

"Little brat, what do you have to say now?"

Zhang Yao crossed his arms.

A cold snort echoed through the entire living room.

At this point, Jin Hai quickly bowed and apologized to Jiang Ran and Zhang Yao: "I-I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, both big brothers! I, I didn't mean to take your food deliveries!"

Zhang Yao sneered: "Didn't mean to? So you meant to, then?"

Jin Hai looked like he was about to cry, his voice choked with sobs: "I was wrong, I won't dare do it again..."

Jiang Ran sighed: "Your name is Jin Hai, right? Where are your parents?"

Jin Hai sniffled: "My parents are out of town. They don't live with me."

Jiang Ran was taken aback: "Your parents don't live with you? You live here alone?"

Jin Hai nodded.

Jiang Ran looked Jin Hai up and down carefully again.

"You're this young, and they let you live alone? Aren't they worried?"

Jin Hai cried, "I don't know, I don't know anything. My parents said they want to train my self-sufficiency from a young age, so they sent me here to live by myself..."

Just as he was about to say something else, Zhang Yao cut Jiang Ran off.

"Jiang Ran, don't believe this little brat. He's just scared we'll tell his parents, so he's making it up!"

Zhang Yao didn't believe a word this little brat said.

Jin Hai shouted loudly, very agitated: "I'm telling the truth! I really do live here alone! If you don't believe me, you can look around my house!"

Hearing this, Jiang Ran had already started moving. If it really was true that only this little boy named Jin Hai lived here, then there should only be his personal items, his clothes, and so on.

After checking the whole place.

Jiang Ran came back and said, "He really does live alone. Everything here belongs to this little boy - his personal items, and his clothes. There are no adult men's or women's items, no clothes or anything."

Zhang Yao was stunned. His crossed arms slowly dropped, and a look of surprise appeared in his eyes. But that surprise was quickly replaced by the hatred of having his food stolen.

"Heh, I don't care if you live with your parents or not, and I'm not going to forgive you for stealing our food just because you're a kid! So tell me! How are you going to take responsibility for stealing food from both of us?"

Zhang Yao's approach was the more aggressive type, while Jiang Ran was clearly more laid-back.

So Jin Hai turned his hopeful gaze toward Jiang Ran.

Jiang Ran cleared his throat and said, "I agree with Zhang Yao on this. No matter how pitiful you are - abandoned by your parents to live alone, or still just a child - you still have to take responsibility for your mistakes!"
