Chapter 2060 Formation of Secret Planes

City Hall, Adventurers' City.

Inside a private chamber on the fifth floor, Adam and Luca sat at a long table. Muted sunlight filtered through the arched window beside them, casting a pale light across the room.

Outside, the entire city was preparing for war. The streets were filled with urgent movement. Supplies were being loaded into carts. Crates of food, weapons, medicine, and other necessities were being carried toward the waiting army.

Adventurers moved between the buildings, checking their equipment and preparing themselves for the long march. Their destination was the Lamiyan Mountains. More precisely, the battlefield east of the mountains.

Neither Adam nor Luca paid much attention to the commotion outside. Their attention was fixed on the table between them.

In front of Adam lay the Morning Star. Across from him, in front of Luca, lay the Winter Blade.

For a while, Luca stared at the two weapons with a thoughtful, yet complicated look in his eyes. Adam had just finished telling Luca everything Sandra had revealed to him.

The secret of the two weapons. The reason they had been created. And the connection they shared with the ancient civilizations in this secret plane.

The Morning Star and the Winter Blade had been created for a purpose. A purpose connected to the Vampire King.

After minutes of contemplation, Luca let out a heavy sigh. He turned to Adam and requested, "Can you erect a barrier?"

Adam wove a few simple hand seals. The area around the long table trembled briefly before an invisible dome surrounded them.

"Go ahead," Adam said.

"The waters in this place are dark and murky," Luca said in a heavy voice.

"I always thought these weapons were special. But to think they contained the magic of this secret plane's spirit… that is truly surprising."

Adam nodded. "A feisty spirit that one must have been."

No two spirits of secret planes were the same. Similar to how no two leaves had the same patterns of veins across their surface.

He recalled the Joker of the Soaring River Secret Plane. What a character that spirit was.

"Can you blame it?" Luca smiled wryly. "An outsider dared lay claim to the world created by its master. What else could it do…"

His words slowed, his eyes narrowing ever so slightly.

"You do know about the formation of secret planes and the birth of their spirits, don't you?"

This was a secret that only those at the Transcendent Magus or beyond were privy to. Luca had a strange feeling that Adam knew about it. He knew about many things — something that should have been strange and peculiar for someone of his background.

Unsurprisingly, Adam nodded.

"I do," he said. "A secret plane is the inner dimension of a Magus, formed through the expansion of their Mana Seed."

Luca slowly nodded.

"Usually, the birth of a spirit depends on the Magus," Adam continued. "But if a Transcendent Magus were to die, they could choose to create a spirit to govern their inner dimension.

"These inner dimensions are then established as secret planes in the real world. They contain the Magus's legacy, and others in the material world can eventually access them based on the conditions left behind by the Magus, or the rules and regulations created by the spirit."

Luca stared at Adam in silence.

But Adam let out a carefree chuckle and explained, "I inherited this knowledge, among other things, from a secret plane back in my homeworld. That's why I know all this."

Luca frowned. "A secret plane in your homeworld? How is that possible? Didn't you come from the Outerverse?"

The suspicions in Luca's heart that he had built a wall around slowly started to crumble. He liked Adam. He truly did. As a friend. As a traveling companion. And as a warrior he could rely on. But Adam was full of secrets and mysteries, and Luca couldn't help but be wary of them.

"Simple," Adam said. "The Magus who left behind that secret plane had sworn a mana oath."

For a moment, Luca was confused. But then his eyes widened. "He was willing to go so far?!"

Adam smiled bitterly. "I was as shocked as you were."

He paused and sighed. "I suppose our homeworld did have a very special place in his heart. So much so that he was willing to sacrifice everything — even his remaining lifespan — to return home and leave behind gifts for future generations."

Luca was truly surprised. "Was he a human?"

"Yes." Adam nodded and smiled. "His name was Mathias… Mathias the Free."

"That is very admirable of him." Luca nodded solemnly. "I respect it. I truly do."

The corner of Adam's lips twitched, and he wondered, You only respect it because you learned he was a human!

The two fell silent for a long time. Finally, Adam spoke again:

"But Luca… this world, this secret plane, it has its own sun and moon, lands and water bodies, changing seasons, and everything else one expects from a complete world. How strong do you think the Magus who left this behind was?"

Luca shook his head. "Hard to say. At least a Transcendent Magus. A Saint Magus, maybe? Who knows."

Adam thought the same. From Philippe's memories, he learned that the limit of this secret plane was the Transcendent Magus. However, given that the natural laws of this secret plane were so complete, he guessed that there was a high possibility that the Magus who left this secret plane behind was a Saint Magus.

"But why would Jacob devour the secret plane's spirit?" Luca murmured, a frown etched on his face. "Wasn't he a resident of this world? If so, the spirit should not have any enmity with him. But these two weapons and the talismans paint a different picture. What is going on?"

"It's likely related to Sandra's final warning," Adam said with a grim look on his face.

"If not Jacob, then who?" Luca pressed.

Adam had not told him about Phillipe's memories. Luca already found him very suspicious. He didn't know how to explain the origins of the memories to him.

So he replied in a vague manner:

"I think it's those gypsies…"
