Chapter 482: Drained
Zenith finally stepped forward. "That is enough." She had seen enough.
The greedy vampire was just drinking on and on, with no sign of stopping soon, and Elion’s complexion was only going to keep getting worse.
Was she only going to stop once he dropped dead? It was certainly starting to look that way.
’She’s definitely had enough by now.’
Elion lifted one hand weakly. "Wait."
Zenith stopped with her eyes narrowed. "Hubby."
"I am fine."
"You look half dead."
Elion’s lips twitched faintly. He was clearly trying to smile, though he barely had the energy for it. He glanced down at Celeste. What was he supposed to do... Pluck her away?
Celeste continued drinking, and Zenith’s gaze continued to darken. "How much blood can one person lose before dropping dead?"
Dorian glanced at Elion. "Normally, far less than this; it’s a wonder how he is still standing." Following Dorian’s words, Zenith looked ready to tear Celeste away by force.
Lucius noticed and quickly stepped forward. "Wait."
Her gaze snapped toward him, and Lucius raised both hands slightly. "Her bloodline is still stabilizing. Pulling her away too violently could cause a violent backlash."
Zenith’s eyes became colder. "And allowing her to drain him to death is preferable?"
"No." Lucius looked toward Elion again. "But there is something strange happening; he won’t die anytime soon, and I won’t allow it."
Morgana’s gaze sharpened as she studied the pair. She noticed it too. Everyone looked toward Elion’s neck.
Despite the amount of blood Celeste had consumed, Elion was still standing, and beings such as them were sensitive to blood and essence, and in turn, lifeforce, seeing as the two were so intricately connected.
More importantly, Elion’s body was already beginning to replace what he had lost. The process was slow, and clearly, his loss of vitality was outpacing whatever recovery process his body was trying to undergo.
But it was enough to keep him going for a bit longer.
His breathing, though weak, had not become erratic yet, and it was impressive how someone could recover so quickly and right before their eyes too.
Dorian narrowed his eyes. "Is that a regenerative ability?"
Elion gave him a tired look. "Something like that."
The notion was rich, coming from vampires who had some of the most absurd instant regenerative abilities in the event of injury.
Someone like Lucius and Lilith, who possessed such great strength and a powerful bloodline, would even be able to heal from a grievous wound.
Zenith still scoffed. "Regeneration does not mean you have infinite blood. You will run out sooner or later."
"I know."
"Then stop her." Elion looked down at Celeste. Her eyelids were opening and closing slowly and repeatedly, her lashes fluttering softly.
The madness and hunger that had burned within her eyes before were gradually fading, and her grip on him was no longer as aggressive as it was before.
She was not feeding as violently anymore either.
Now, she drank slowly, almost lazily, as though the blood was not only nourishing her body but also giving her time to savor the taste, if he could even say such a thing.
Elion exhaled weakly. "Just a little longer, I think..."
Zenith stared at him and clicked her tongue, clearly annoyed that he wasn’t listening despite being in visible danger. "You are too indulgent with your women."
He only gave her a wry smile. Was she forgetting that she was one of those women or something?
Finally, Celeste slowed until the sound of swallowing gradually stopped.
For a moment, she remained completely still, her fangs still buried in Elion’s neck as she savored the sweet taste of his blood flowing down her throat.
Then her eyes opened, and the violent crimson glow in them faded as she slowly regained clarity.
Slowly, she pulled back, with a thin line of blood remaining at the corner of her lips, which she quickly licked away sensually, eager not to let it go to waste.
She stared at Elion’s face; only then did she seem to notice how pale he had become. Her expression froze. "Elion?"
’Am I dreaming?’ She thought quietly.
He gave her a weak smile. "Hello, Celeste. You are looking very beautiful on this lovely day."
Her eyes widened as her mind took a second to register that he was really before her, then she pulled her hands away from his neck and cupped his cheeks, drawing him into a smothering kiss before anyone could react.
Several brows rose in shock.
The kiss began eagerly, almost desperately, and the slurping sounds of it echoed far louder through the silent throne room than they had any right to.
Forget the fact that Celeste had initiated it so shamelessly. Was this really their cold, detached vampire princess?
What had happened to her?
Why was she being so indulgent with him?
Regardless of the fact that Elion was the father of her unborn child, kissing him so shamelessly while completely ignoring the presence of the elders and her own parents was surely a bit much.
Yet Celeste did not seem to care.
Her arms tightened around his shoulders and his face, and Elion held her just as firmly, despite how pale and exhausted he had become.
She only pulled back with a soft pop once she was finally satisfied, or perhaps when she simply needed to catch her breath.
A vibrant smile appeared on her face. It was a smile no one present except Elion had ever seen on her before.
Once again, several elders found their mouths hanging open, but not only them. Even Dorian, Lucius, and Lilith stared in stunned silence.
Celeste Chronos, the future ruler of the Vampire Clan, the woman feared for her coldness and composure, was smiling like a lovestruck young woman.
Then, in the next moment, Elion’s knees buckled.
His strength vanished without warning, and he dropped onto the floor with Celeste still held in his arms.
"Elion?"
Celeste’s smile disappeared instantly as they both tumbled to the floor. Before anyone could get their bearings, the sound of quiet snoring echoed through the throne room.
A brief, stunned silence followed.
Elion had passed out.
Celeste stared down at him without moving for a while. Her crimson eyes widened slightly as she finally noticed just how pale he had become.
"Elion?" She lightly patted his cheek, but he did not respond. Only another faint snore escaped him.
Celeste proceeded to adjust their positions so that he was in her arms instead of the other way around.
Zenith’s expression darkened; she crossed her arms, but since she could tell from a single glance that Elion was fine, already recovering on his own, she didn’t overreact too much, though she wasn’t happy with how things had turned out.
"I said she was drinking too much of his blood."
Lucius coughed awkwardly into his fist. "He appears to be alive."
Zenith slowly turned toward him and gave him a sharp glare that sent tingles down his spine. "That is not the standard we should be aiming for."
Dorian pressed his lips together, clearly trying not to laugh.
Morgana looked between the unconscious Elion and Celeste, who still refused to release him from her embrace.
Oberon’s expression was utterly unreadable.
Their newly awakened Progenitor Vampire had drained the young man almost senseless, kissed him in front of the entire council, and was now sitting on the floor with him cradled protectively in her arms.
This was not how any of them had imagined the first meeting between Elion Nova and the ruling elders of the Vampire Clan would unfold.
Not even remotely.
