Harry Potter: Most Annoying System Ever

Chapter 283: The Collar of Questionable Intent and The Godmother Protocol

The hot water of the shower washed away the biting chill of the winter gardens and the lingering adrenaline of standing face-to-face with a mass murderer.

Dressed in comfortable, dark green silk lounge robes, Orion walked over to his four-poster bed and climbed under the heavy velvet hangings. Robin the Niffler was already there, completely ignoring his master’s return as he vigorously burrowed into the center of the plush feather pillow, leaving only a twitching black tail visible.

Orion leaned back against the mahogany headboard, propping his pillows up, and crossed his legs.

"Alright, Sparkle," Orion said, his tone shifting into the eager, expectant register of a gamer waiting for a loot drop. "Bring up the interface. What did yesterday’s Dementor skirmish and today’s little family reunion get me?"

The blue screen flared into existence before him, casting a cool, rhythmic light over the silk sheets.

"A rather tidy haul, boss," Sparkle’s digital voice hummed pleasantly. "The algorithms broke it down neatly: exactly one achievement for each tier. Let’s start at the bottom and work our way up."

[ ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! ]

Tier: 1 (Basic)

Name: Negative Aura Speedrun

Description: You managed to manifest both your spiritual inner beast (Animagus) and your ultimate defensive soul-projection (Patronus) into the majestic, terrifying, battle-hardened form of... a duck. Yes, we know it’s technically a mute swan. No, that does not make it sound any cooler. Your intimidation factor has officially entered the negative integers.

Reward: 1x Booklet: 100 Ways to Lose Aura in 20 Seconds (And How to Blame it on the Moon).

Orion stared at the text. His eye gave a singular, violent twitch.

"Inventory," he muttered.

A tiny, paper-thin pamphlet dropped into his hand. It had a glossy, moving picture of a wizard slipping on a banana peel on the front cover.

"It’s a swan," Orion hissed, gripping the booklet so hard the paper creaked. "A mute swan is an apex waterfowl. It can break a man’s arm with its wing. It is regal. It is handsome."

"Whatever helps you sleep at night, Donald," Sparkle snickered digitally.

Orion tossed the booklet back into the corner of the inventory grid without another word. "Moving on. Give me the Tier 2 before I find a way to uninstall you."

The interface shifted, the borders burning with a sharp, polished silver radiance.

[ ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! ]

Tier: 2 (Advanced)

Name: The Darwinian Loophole

Description: You weaponized a casual conversation about Muggle evolutionary biology to exploit a semantic loophole in the system’s parameters, successfully deploying a high-tier familiar taming catalyst on a human witch. You didn’t just bend the rules; you treated the laws of magical creature taxonomy like a suggestion.

Reward: 1x Subjugation Collar.

Orion read the text. Then, he read the reward description, with Sparkle also deciding to voice it out for him.

"The Subjugation Collar," Sparkle read aloud, completely deadpan. "A heavy, enchanted leather collar adorned with silver studs. When fastened around the neck of any magical creature, it establishes an absolute, unbreakable command tether, forcing the target into complete, unquestioning obedience to the collar’s keyholder. Can be removed, released, and reused repeatedly without degradation."

A heavy, suffocating silence descended upon the four-poster bed.

Orion stared at the screen, his face entirely devoid of color, an expression of profound, horrified disbelief settling over his features.

He slowly looked at the blue waveform.

"What the absolute hell," Orion said, his voice dangerously low, "is the System trying to imply here?"

"What?" Sparkle replied, her voice pitching up slightly.

"Are you... is this machine suggesting," Orion gestured wildly at the text, his aristocratic composure completely shattering, "that I take an enchanted dog collar and physically strap it onto my psychotic, adult aunt?!"

"Hey!" Sparkle’s interface flashed an indignant, defensive red. "The System has not suggested anything of the sort! The rewards are procedurally generated based on semantic tags! ’Familiar’, ’Creature’, ’Taming’! Your mind is the one wallowing in the absolute gutter, Orion Malfoy!"

"The reward is literally labeled as the direct payout for tagging Bellatrix Lestrange with an animal-taming orb!" Orion roared back in a furious whisper, conscious of the quiet Manor around him. "The contextual narrative here is horrifying! I am a Slytherin, Sparkle! I am an ambitious, manipulative strategist! I am not a degenerate with a leather fetish!"

"Then don’t use it!" Sparkle fired back. "Throw it away! Sell it to a goblin!"

"I am burying it in the absolute deepest, darkest, most inaccessible corner of the Inventory grid," Orion growled, waving his hand aggressively to move the theoretical collar before it could even manifest into his physical sight. "Right at the bottom, beneath the other tier 1 items stored there. I have standards."

"Could have fooled me," Sparkle scoffed, her waveform crossing its virtual arms. "You literally threw an animal-binding catalyst at your mother’s sister twenty minutes ago."

"That was entirely different," Orion snapped, leaning forward, his jaw tight. "The Familiar’s Orb does not enslave. It does not overwrite the mind or force someone onto their knees. It acts as a passive, emotional catalyst. It accelerates trust. It fosters natural affection and protective instincts."

He held up a finger, slipping into his analytical, debate mode.

"It is the fundamental difference between casting a subtle, localized Attraction Charm to make someone like you, versus casting the Imperius Curse to turn them into an obedient puppet. One is social engineering; the other is a violation of the soul. Not everything is classified as an Unforgivable for a reason. I manipulated her feelings, yes, but she remains entirely herself."

Sparkle’s interface shifted from red back to a neutral, thoughtful blue.

"I suppose that’s a fair distinction," she conceded softly. She paused, her digital pulse slowing. "About that, though... why her? If you were going to use the loophole to tame a human wizard, why waste the single most powerful social asset you had on Bellatrix? You could have used it on Dumbledore. Or even Tom Riddle."

Orion let out a quiet, cynical chuckle, sinking back against his pillows.

"Think about it tactically, Sparkle," Orion murmured, tracing a pattern on the silk duvet. "Why would I waste it on Albus? I already possess an exceptional, near-impenetrable reputation with the Light faction. Dumbledore already trusts my intellect, respects my actions, and gave me an Order of Merlin. Using the orb on him would yield diminishing returns. He is already an ally, even if an observant one."

"And Tom?" Sparkle pressed.

Orion’s eyes hardened, all humor vanishing from his face.

"Tom Riddle has to die," Orion stated flatly, the conviction absolute. "At the end of my fourth year, when he steps out of that cauldron, he must be destroyed. The soul of that creature is so fractured, so utterly warped by Horcruxes, that I doubt the magic of the orb would even find enough humanity to tether to. And even if it did? A Dark Lord as a ’familiar’ is a volatile, ticking bomb. I intend to end him, not manage him. Making him like me won’t change the fact that his existence is a threat to my family."

He looked toward the bedroom door, thinking of the dark-haired witch roaming the lower floors.

"Bellatrix, however... Bellatrix is different."

Orion leaned his head back, staring at the painted cherub above.

"She possesses the exact same fanatical, terrifying influence over the pureblood Dark faction as Voldemort himself. The Death Eaters fear and revere her. More importantly, she possesses a fully functioning, lethal physical body—she isn’t a pathetic, wandering wraith hiding in an Albanian forest. She is the ultimate vanguard."

A slow, brilliant smirk crept across Orion’s lips.

"She is dangerously beautiful, fiercely loyal to blood, and she was already pre-disposed to claiming me as her godson. When Voldemort falls, the Dark faction will need a leader to prevent them from fracturing into chaotic, desperate terror cells. I have no intention of letting Bella rot in Azkaban again, nor do I want her dead."

Orion closed his eyes, mapping the future.

"I am not making a pet, Sparkle. I am forging the most terrifying, unyielding personal bodyguard the magical world has ever seen. An enforcer who will dismantle my enemies while smiling at me like a proud aunt."

Silence stretched in the bed. Sparkle didn’t argue. The sheer, ruthless elegance of the long-term play was undeniable.

Orion opened his eyes, the indigo depths burning with ambition.

"Now," Orion said, his voice dropping an octave, the anticipation returning. "Enough about the dog collar. Show me the Tier 3. Show me what breaking the boundaries of magic earned me."
