Heaven, Earth, Me
Chapter 1729. It’s Edible.
Chapter 1729: Chapter 1729. It’s Edible.
The rest of the girls decided to wear something to match Yasenia. Wearing a mix of whites, golds, silvers, and similar colors made the four of them look both coordinated and beautiful.
The maids behind them wore their usual clothes. Even though it was a banquet for the Royal Hunt participants, they wouldn’t attend; they would only stay nearby. Only the most important individuals attended the central area.
Yasenia, Kali, Evelyn, Valeria, and Tatyana walked down the royal palace hallways, their eyes alert. This area was essentially the Royals’ home ground, so if they wanted to screw them over, it was the perfect occasion.
It was basically a wolf’s den.
This location was even grander than the one they just visited. The hallways were smaller, but not by much. Still, with eunuchs, maids, and butlers walking around, it felt much more alive.
All the servants walked with their heads down, and they didn’t make eye contact with anyone. It was basic survival etiquette for them. After all, if they angered an important person and were killed, the punishment wouldn’t be much more than a slap on the wrist.
The only ones you would see walking with straight backs were Head Maids, Butlers, and Eunuchs. Their uniforms were slightly different, with the colors and details a touch more
Yasenia stopped an eunuch, differentiated from butlers thanks to their white hats. "Hello, I’d like to ask for directions to the Banquet Hall."
The eunuch looked over and was startled for a moment, but he quickly recovered. Yasenia was not surprised. The eunuch she was speaking to was a Level Nine Transcendence Realm cultivator. It was also the reason she chose him to guide her group, as other weaker eunuchs might’ve had a Heart Demon or two be born from Yasenia’s current looks.
Eunuchs practiced cultivation techniques that gave up their sexuality and desire in all that related to relationships in order to become incredibly strong quickly. In a way, their techniques could be considered demonic, as they used emotions to feed their cultivation.
A very common one was the [Sunflower Manual]. It was so common and widespread that you could find it everywhere. It was strong, but if you practiced it as a man, you’d have to say goodbye to your little buddy down there forever.
It was not a sacrifice most were willing to make.
If you practiced it as a woman, you’d develop Qi deviation and probably die, since it used Yang Energy to power the technique.
The eunuch smiled politely and asked. "You must be Madam Dravory. Follow me."
Yasenia blinked and followed, her high heels adding to her already tall height and making her look even taller. "Were you informed about my presence, Lord?"
You had to be respectful. Eunuchs held significant power in many palace factions. Disrespecting them was a fast way to get screwed over when you least expected it.
The Eunuch smiled faintly at Yasenia’s tone and glanced up at her, his eyes polite and devoid of desire. "Your looks have silently spread already, Madam Yasenia. Many artists have seen your divine countenance and taken up the challenge to paint it. Although now that I see you in person, I must say that none can match the real you, hahaha."
Yasenia smiled politely at his tone.
Thankfully, there were no hiccups in the way toward the banquet. However, she didn’t lower her guard. The truly insidious waited until you felt relaxed and comfortable before acting.
The eunuch cleared his throat and called out in a rather shrill voice. "Madam Yasenia Dravory and the Dravory Family have arrived!"
The doors opened wide, revealing a massive banquet hall. Food and drink tables lined the edges, with chairs and circular tables in one corner for tea and other refreshments.
A large, circular dance floor dominated the center, while a stage at the back, where the royals and those close to them gathered, presided over the hall. It was elevated, not by much, but enough to give the intended vibe.
There were large flags of the top families, sects, and other important factions hung on the walls. Being there meant that you were standing at the very top and were recognized by the empire.
The hall held a few thousand people, far fewer than those who participated in the Royal Hunt, but still a large enough crowd to make the massive hall feel busy, not crowded.
When Yasenia entered, many eyes were fixed on her. Yasenia didn’t look around. She glanced straight forward and walked over toward a less crowded side of the hall. Tatyana was linking arms with her, while Evelyn and Kali followed right behind, doing the same. At the very back, Valeria walked with elegant, measured steps.
Yasenia arrived at the zone and approached the table. The maid stationed there looked up and froze like a startled deer, blinking her pretty eyes.
"Give us some main course to taste sample. Nothing heavy."
Yasenia put energy into her voice to snap the maid back to attention. The maid nodded quickly, trying to calm her beating heart. "Yes! Please give me a moment, Miss."
The plates were elegant, and the food portions were... bite-sized. It wasn’t a problem because Yasenia had asked for them to be small. Just to have a taste.
So, Yasenia used her energy and floated the elegant plate by her side and gave it to the rest of the girls, popping a strawberry mini cake with red syrup into her mouth. "Hmm..."
She looked at the other girls, and Kali spoke after swallowing. "Not bad, I guess? It’s somewhat bland compared to what you usually cook, Yasenia. Edible, which, with our pampered palates, is quite a big compliment."
Tatyana agreed. "It can be eaten, but I wouldn’t overpraise it. It seems that your Spiritual Cooking realm is higher than I expected."
They hadn’t really eaten anything other than what Yasenia cooked. They even had several of their favorite dishes in their spatial rings for when Yasenia couldn’t cook. With their ability to preserve food as if it were freshly cooked for decades, they had no reason not to keep what Yasenia cooked when she practiced and eat it later.
Someone nearby scoffed lightly. "This is why new families need to be careful when they speak. Are you trying to look elite by looking down on the food or something? It’s honestly embarrassing."
Yasenia glanced sideways and lowered her gaze. At her height, she even had to tilt her chin down to look at the woman who spoke to her. "...Who might you be?"
The woman and those around her smiled with a touch of contempt. "You don’t even know one of the heiresses of the Ye family? Not only are you trying to put on airs, but you are ignorant as well."
"Hahaha."
The girls around her laughed, and Yasenia smiled faintly. Unbothered. "A Heiress who hasn’t made a name for herself to the point that someone who has been investigating doesn’t know about it... Miss Ye’s ability to conceal information is top-notch. I should learn from it so that my face doesn’t spread far and wide in a matter of days the next time."
Miss Ye’s face crumpled. The not-so-indirect stab at her landed where it hurt. With so many heirs and heiresses in these massive clans, knowing every single one of them was difficult. So, if Yasenia investigated and her name or face didn’t come up... she was effectively a nobody with a big surname.
A man’s voice rang from the side. "You are most definitely right, Madam Yasenia. Some people can only envy and speak nonsense, while others create ripples as effortlessly as stepping onto a calm lake."
The voice was refined and pleasant, making it almost impossible not to recognize him.
Yasenia turned her head and saw the man who was at the presentation of the Royal Hunt, and also someone whom Yasenia didn’t really have a favorable impression of. She hid any negative emotion, though, as the man was trying to help her... Or, most probably, help Tatyana.
"Lord Han?" Miss Ye was surprised he had come to talk with them. Han Yasheng stood by Yasenia’s side and smiled at her. "I heard about your contribution during the exploration of the new ruins. As expected of a one in a million years talent."
’Han Yasheng... I wonder what he is thinking about?’
Yasenia would be a fool to take his goodwill at face value. Still, she would not let him sway her around as he pleased. "Thank you. Also, while Miss Ye might’ve sounded slightly impolite, I am sure it was concern over any other emotion. It was our fault as well that we spoke without expecting someone to be listening."
Miss Ye gave Yasenia a strange look for a second before nodding. "That’s right, Lord Han. If the wrong people heard her, it could result in a disaster. Boasting without any basis is wrong, no matter the situation."
Here, Yasenia flipped the script without almost any warning. "Oh. But we weren’t boasting. My talent in Spirit Cooking is very high. I can tell that whoever crafted these delicacies put their heart into it. Nevertheless, I can taste some mistakes."
Miss Ye and Lord Han glanced at Yasenia and smiled, because if they said anything else, Yasenia might again kick them low once more. Miss Ye knew better than to continue to beef with someone who had won a battle of words against their family’s Madam Ye. "If that’s so, I’d like to see you face Master Chef Lord Sun later in the Spiritual Cooking arena. I’ll be there when that happens."
Lord Sun was considered one of the top three chefs, and he worked for the royal family. He cooked all the food and even brewed the drinks served at the banquet today, so speaking against it felt like nonsense to those who knew.
As Miss Ye and her group left with a few drinks, Han Yasheng glanced at Yasenia. She was slightly taller than him thanks to the heels, and even though he was confident in his looks, Yasenia wasn’t eclipsed like many others. So, instead of his usual tactics, he decided to approach Yasenia differently.
"Spirit Cooking. That’s an unusual profession to take. What’s the reason to learn it?"
Yasenia smiled. "I feel that as the Head of the family, I need to know how to feed them. At first, I just wanted to prepare delicious meals. Now, I’ve noticed that each dish I make increases the strength of my lovers. So, I’ve tried to perfect it as much as I can. The skills I have today are a result of that."
Han Yasheng was about to smile and answer when Tatyana, wearing a similarly beautiful white dress, hugged Yasenia’s arm and looked at him. "The food she makes is delicious. It’s the only thing I eat lately... Together with some other things of hers."
Han Yasheng’s face twitched.
Yasenia gently tapped Tatyana’s thigh with her tail. "Tatyana, don’t speak like that. It’s not proper."
Tatyana chuckled, swirling a cup of red liquid as she looked up at him. "It’s been a while, hasn’t it?"
Han Yasheng smiled back. "It has been a while. I didn’t expect you to return after so long."
"Woes of Fate." Tatyana looked at Yasenia and chuckled. "Here or there, as long as I am by her side, it doesn’t really matter."
Han Yasheng smiled, but Yasenia felt his fingers twitch. ’Fufu~, how long can you keep up your pretentiousness?’
