Chapter 1091: Chapter 790: Traitor

The man furrowed his brows, "I’ve already said, I am in seclusion lately, not receiving any guests."

The attendant outside replied anxiously, "I understand, but this time it’s Holy Seat Mansa who has come. We really couldn’t refuse him... He seems quite angry, as if there’s something he urgently needs to discuss with you."

"Lord, perhaps you should meet him?"

"I will not." The man leaned back on the sofa, casually placed a book on his crossed legs, his tone lethargic and indifferent, "I’m busy, tell him to go back."

"Shu Kui, do you know how serious the trouble within the Divine Hall has become lately? Why when things are happening during this period, you’re acting as though you’re dead, and I have not even seen your shadow!"

Mansa stormed in with force.

Shu Kui raised an eyebrow slightly and looked over in bewilderment, "What has happened, why has your demeanor become so ugly? Have a cup of water first to calm down."

"You!"

Mansa’s lips twitched violently, and those stunning features seemed to distort for a moment, showing a hint of detestableness, "Do you still have the audacity to ask? Do you genuinely not know about the incident in the Divine Hall recently, or are you purposely standing by to watch, causing me embarrassment?"

Shu Kui closed the book calmly, "I heard that a specimen escaped, stirred up the seal in the Divine Hall along with several fugitives, and it’s said many people were killed or wounded."

"Since you knew, why did you not act? When they were escaping, Zong Gao and I activated Divine Punishment·Forbidden Domain. If you had been there, they definitely could not have got away!" Mansa grew angrier with the thought.

He had indeed issued the highest command to Shu Kui at that time, but from start to finish the latter did not even show a shadow!

He almost caught that specimen, but just at the critical moment, it escaped. Later, he dispatched several batches of pursuers, all returned without any success.

The effort required to catch that number 02 specimen back was unknown, and it might even never be found again!

Who will bear such a huge loss?

"You and Zong Gao failed in your duties and are now shifting the blame onto me? Mansa, we’ve worked together at least once, this isn’t fair, is it?"

Shu Kui smiled slightly, his voice still cold and casual, but within that thin smile was a trace of hidden anger.

Facing the man’s unfriendly gaze, Mansa quickly calmed down.

They served as Ten Holy Seats, inherently bound by both cooperation and restraint. Additionally, Shu Kui’s seniority within the Divine Hall was even higher than his, with abilities equal or even harder for him to decipher, a difficult person to provoke.

He did not want this matter to become too unpleasant.

Mansa swiftly adjusted his expression, his ambiguous and stunning features revealing a slightly charming smile, "I was too anxious. We both work for the Divine Hall, don’t take it to heart."

Yet as he looked at the man on the sofa, dark-haired with silver eyes, his tone remained puzzled, seemingly containing a faint and indiscernible scrutiny, "However, at that time I notified you with the highest command, indicating an emergency situation. Why couldn’t you come promptly? At least give me an explanation."

Shu Kui picked up the book beside him again, lowered his gaze as he flicked through it, speaking leisurely, "Mansa, you need to understand, our responsibilities differ."

"The Divine Hall has entrusted me with more significant tasks, rather than trivial matters."

"Your so-called highest command does not bind me, I have the authority to refuse."

He then raised his gaze, glancing at him indifferently, "Capturing fugitives is not within my duty scope. This is your oversight. If you’ve come only for this trivial matter today, you should leave before I get angry."

Mansa was left speechless, his face flushed red, "You’re truly... unreasonable!"

The Ten Holy Seats were supposed to serve the Divine Hall’s supreme commands, but in some respects, Shu Kui was not wrong; their responsibilities varied greatly, and they hardly intersected in daily affairs.

Mansa had also heard that just recently, Shu Kui seemed to have undertaken a very important research task, claiming seclusion outwardly.

Mansa could only grit his teeth and swallow his discontent, "Alright, then consider this my failing. I have nothing else to say! I came here to tell you another matter."

Shu Kui, "Oh? What is it?"

Mansa said coldly, "There’s a traitor within the Divine Hall!"

Shu Kui paused his fingers, raised his long cold and enchanting silver eyes to glance at him, seemingly surprised, "What do you mean?"

"Zong Gao and I were about to capture those fugitives, but right at the last moment of activating Divine Punishment·Forbidden Domain, it was suddenly disrupted by an external force. We thoroughly investigated the entire Divine Hall afterward, but found no origin of that force." Mansa’s enchanting eyes flashed coldly, gritting his teeth, "We suspect... there’s a traitor within the Divine Hall!"
