Chapter 1102: Chapter 796: Jealousy and Rivalry (Part 3)

Shen Li didn’t go over to disturb them either.

That night, the three Beast Husbands tacitly agreed not to enter the room and bother her, leaving it to the female. The three of them guarded the doorway or nearby, each finding a spot to rest.

At dawn the next day, when Shen Tang woke up, the three Beast Husbands were already up.

Lu Xiao was preparing breakfast, while Xiao Jin and Shen Li were hunting Mutant Beasts in the vicinity. By the time Shen Tang finished washing and came out, a large pile of processed beast meat had already accumulated in the yard, all purified with Purification Crystal Stones and stacked neatly.

Lu Xiao divided the meat into several portions, wrapped them with large leaves, and stored them into the Space. They also prepared plenty of water; several water pouches were filled to the brim.

After breakfast, the four set off fully armed.

Shen Li changed back into his Fire Fox form and lowered himself so Shen Tang could sit on his back. Xiao Jin and Lu Xiao also transformed into their beast forms, flanking her on the left and right to guard her.

After half a day’s trek, they successfully reached the Helaer Desert a thousand miles away. Here yellow sand filled the sky and the heat was scalding; the sand could instantly burn through the soles of one’s shoes to the bottoms of their feet. It was no exaggeration to say Shen Tang felt like an ant thrown into a boiling hotpot!

The harshness of this desert was even worse than she had imagined. No wonder there were almost no Beastmen passing through this place; Beastmen below the Primordial Beast Tier probably couldn’t even walk normally here. Once they entered, it was practically a guaranteed death!

After entering the desert, they began a long search. Yet for half a month straight, even after combing through the entire desert, they still hadn’t found a single clue.

"Looks like it’s not here."

Shen Tang crossed out one marked point on the map, and then they moved on toward the next marked location.

Then came the third place, the fourth place... they just kept searching like this.

...

Meanwhile, over in Sky City, Mo Yan also kept his promise and sent out an elite personal battle squad. This Feathered Beast team had been circling in the skies above a certain wasteland desert for a full three days.

The blazing sun pressed down overhead like a red‑hot brand; the heat between heaven and earth was so intense that even breathing scorched the throat.

The dozen or so Beastmen were all highly talented Primordial Beast Tier Beastmen, yet after the long‑distance trek in such harsh territory, they were flying crooked and unsteady. Their wings flapped weakly, and their lips were split open with bloody cracks.

"Captain, if we keep this up the brothers really won’t be able to hold out." A young Beastman wiped away his sweat. "The stuff the Big Boss told us to look for—even he couldn’t explain clearly. How are we supposed to find it? Where the hell is it?"

The one leading them was a forty‑something Eagle Clan Beastman, his face tanned dark and shiny. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

He squinted down at the endless stretch of yellow sand below, feeling uncertain in his heart but keeping his tone hard. "Quit whining. The young lady is still in their hands. We just keep searching—anything that looks like it, we check it out, got it?"

No one in the squad said another word; they just flew on with their heads down.

Suddenly, a layer of thin mist rose ahead. Fog in the desert was rare to begin with, and this mist was strange, a gray haze that only thickened the farther they flew.

Before anyone could react, they plunged straight into it.

Inside the fog they couldn’t see a thing.

Their hearts tightened in panic, not knowing what they’d run into, when suddenly they saw a stretch of oasis appear not far away.

A sapphire lake was set in the middle of the yellow sand, encircled by lush green trees. The air itself seemed to carry a cool, watery freshness.

"Water! It’s water!" The young Beastman’s eyes were about to pop out of his head.

A group of them dove toward the oasis like mad.

Just as they were about to touch the lake’s surface, a wild gust of wind wrapped in yellow sand slammed into them. Sand pelted down on their heads and bodies; everyone instinctively squeezed their eyes shut and turned their faces away.

When the sandstorm passed and they opened their eyes again—

It was gone.

The oasis was gone, the lake was gone, everything was gone.

Before them was still the same boundless, lifeless sea of sand.

"Fuck, we’ve seen a ghost..." someone muttered a curse under his breath.

"Could we have been hallucinating?"

"You alone maybe, but we all saw it. That’s not possible. Could it have been a mirage?"

"Forget it, cut the crap. Let’s hurry up and keep looking."

But when the captain looked down at his locator, he found the pointer spinning erratically and the dial completely scrambled.

Everyone else’s instruments had failed too; no matter how they tried to fix them, there was no response.

"Captain, what do we do? Which way are we supposed to go?" someone asked.

The captain lifted his head to look at the sun. It was just a glaring white blur that made his vision swim; he couldn’t tell east, south, west, or north at all.

He could only randomly pick a direction. "If I remember right, it should be that way."

They flew for one hour, then another.

Below them it was still sand, endless and boundless. Even the sky seemed to blur together with the desert.

Dusk fell.

Night in the desert came fast and hard. In the daytime the heat made you want to peel off your skin; once the sun dropped, the cold stabbed in like knives.

The few of them huddled together with their wings wrapped tightly around their bodies, their teeth chattering uncontrollably.

Hungry, thirsty, and freezing, their water was already gone, and only a few pieces of hard biscuit remained. They barely had the strength to speak.

"Captain... are we going to die here?" a young Beastman asked, his voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.

The captain was just as panicked inside, not knowing how to answer.

Before they came, they’d already prepared themselves for the possibility of never making it out of such a harsh place, but when that moment truly arrived, their hearts were still filled with despair and fear.

Suddenly, one Beastman abruptly stood up, pointing into the distance, his voice trembling,

"Look... what is that?"
