The heavy mahogany door of the private office clicked shut with a soft, final thud, sealing them off from the rest of the house. Out in the living room, Marcus—blissfully unaware and acting with the kind of unwitting consideration that only true ignorance could afford—did the most polite thing he could manage: he reached for the remote and flipped on the television to drown out any lingering awkwardness.

Rhys let out a silent, internal exhale of gratitude toward his friend, even as his chest tightened at the absurdity of the situation. Marcus was sitting just a few yards away, entirely oblivious to the fact that he was sharing breathing space with one of the most notorious, ruthless criminals of their generation—a mortal enemy from Rhys’s old days behind the mask.

The moment the lock engaged, Ariadne spun around. Her posture shifted instantly from the playful, innocent housewife she had projected in the hallway to something predatory, expectant, and undeniably electric.

Rhys stared at her, utterly appalled by the hungry look in her eyes. He wanted nothing to do with her, wanted this entire chaotic chapter of his life erased, wanted to burn the bridge down to its foundations. He took a sharp step back, putting distance between them.

“This isn’t going to go the way you think it is, Ariadne,” Rhys said, his voice hard and uncompromising.

Ariadne paused, tilting her head slightly with a coy, infuriating smirk playing on her lips. “Oh? And just how is it going to go, Rhys?”

Rhys opened his mouth, but the words caught in his throat. He didn’t even have a script for this level of manipulation.

Before he could formulate a response, she closed the distance between them with a predatory swiftness, her voice dropping to a teasing whisper. “You don’t get to act like this. You haven’t even said a word to me in days. Did you really think you could just drop off the face of the earth and I wouldn’t come looking for what’s mine?”

Rhys’s temper flared, hot and sharp. He told her vehemently that he was done, that he wanted nothing more to do with her games, her syndicate history, or her presence in his neighborhood.

Ariadne didn’t seem to care about his threats in the slightest. In fact, her gaze drifted past his shoulder, entirely dismissive of his anger. She raised a single, manicured finger to her lips, shushing him.

“You should probably keep your voice down, darling,” she purred.

A sudden jolt of electricity shot down Rhys’s spine as memory violently reasserted itself. He froze, straining his ears to listen back toward the living room. Faintly, filtering through the thick wood of the door, he could make out the canned, obnoxious sound of a sitcom laugh track playing over the television. Marcus was still out there. Rhys was walking a razor’s edge, balancing on ice so thin it was practically vapor.

He turned back to Ariadne, inhaling a deep, shuddering breath to steady his frayed nerves. He decided to try a different tactic—one born of pure self-preservation. He dropped the hostility, attempting to appeal to whatever reason or restraint she had left. He actually pleaded with her, his voice tight with desperation, asking her to just leave, to not blow his life apart today.

Ariadne’s expression shifted instantly. The teasing playfulness vanished, replaced by a flash of absolute, unadulterated disgust.

She stepped directly into his personal space, planting her face an inch from his, her eyes flashing with a dangerous, mocking challenge. “And who,” she whispered, her voice dripping with venomous amusement, “is going to stop me?”

She tilted her head, letting the name hang heavy in the charged air between them.

"Omen?" she asked, weaponizing his old superhero moniker not as a question, but as a deliberate, calculated statement of power.

That single word was the match that dropped into the powder keg.

Rhys’s blood boiled instantly, turning to scalding lava in his veins. Deep within the center of his chest, the old, dormant pang of his kinetic powers violently revved to life, pulsing with a dark, electric contempt that tore at his sternum. He knew precisely what game Ariadne was playing—she thrived on the friction, on the dominance, on the thrill of being put firmly in her place by the man who used to hunt her kind.

A switch that Rhys had spent years trying to bury under domesticity, civilian clothes, and quiet neighborhood barbecues finally, irrevocably flipped back to the ‘on’ position.

“On your knees,” Rhys commanded, his voice dropping into a dark, resonant register that commanded absolute obedience.

Ariadne’s eyes widened, a sudden rush of heat flushing her cheeks. Instead of defiance, a breathless, worshipful beam broke across her face. Without a moment of hesitation, she instantly dropped to the floor before him.

In truth, Rhys was completely done—not with her, but with everything. He was exhausted by the lies, the secrets, the endless web of manipulations closing in around him. His mind went entirely blank; he stopped thinking, stopped calculating the fallout, stopped caring about the consequences. He simply acted on pure, unfiltered impulse.

With rough, unyielding movements, he unbuckled and stripped himself down, exposing his fully aroused body to her waiting gaze.

Ariadne let out a sharp, trembling gasp, her eyes locking onto him with the intense, starving hunger of someone witnessing a mirage in a desert.

“Please me,” Rhys ordered, his voice flat, demanding, and utterly devoid of warmth.

Ariadne shuddered violently at the command, her hands rising to steady herself as she leaned forward and took him into her mouth. She started slow, testing the waters, her lips sliding over him with a deliberate, reverent pace.

Then, sensing the heavy, dark current of dominance radiating off him, she plunged deeper, going all the way down with a wet, heavy slide, looking up at him through her lashes with a gaze of absolute, submissive adoration. She put her tongue to work in swift, practiced, agonizingly thorough motions, driven entirely by the primal need to obey and please him.

Out in the living room, Marcus remained entirely wrapped in a cocoon of oblivious tranquility.

He sat comfortably on the plush sofa, watching a third-rate sitcom that featured a laugh track so aggressively loud it practically drowned out his own thoughts. Yet, Marcus was grinning, occasionally letting out a light chuckle right along with the automated audience.

Then, to his pleasant surprise, his phone buzzed in his hand. He glanced at the screen, and his face lit up instantly.

It was Vespera.

Back in the private office, Rhys was drowning in the raw, unadulterated pleasure of Ariadne’s mouth, but the physical sensation only served to rip the scabs off deeper, uglier truths.

He couldn’t lie to himself any longer, couldn’t hide behind the thin veil of a reluctant participant. He wanted to punish her. He had wanted to break her cocky, villainous composure for years, ever since their first violent clashes in the underworld.

A heavy shudder of dark excitement racked his frame, but looking down at her frantic efforts, a cold sneer formed on his lips.

“It’s not good enough,” Rhys muttered harshly.

Ariadne’s eyes flared with a submissive panic at the critique. Eager to prove herself, she instantly sped up her rhythm, doubling her efforts to satisfy him. Desperate to amplify the control, she flicked her fingers, summoning her signature ring-construct powers. Shimmering, translucent bands of kinetic energy materialized out of thin air, coiling tightly around his waist and hips, applying firm, guiding pressure while her head continued to bob in a relentless, synchronized cadence.

The rings spun in the opposite direction of her frantic head movements, creating a bizarre, high-tension friction that sent white-hot spikes of euphoria straight up Rhys’s spine.

At the same time, driven to the absolute brink of arousal by his dominance, Ariadne shoved her free hand down into the waistband of her jeans, pressing her fingers hard against herself, rubbing furiously at her heavy, dripping wetness. She was getting entirely unhinged from the simple thrill of being ordered around, of being used as an outlet for his frustration.

Rhys reveled in the raw sensation of absolute conquering. It had been far, far too long since he had felt this kind of unbridled control—since he had forced the world to bend entirely to his will.

Meanwhile, in the living room, Marcus was completely lost in his own little world, happily chatting away on the phone with Vespera.

He leaned back against the cushions, casually recounting the mundane details of his day, entirely at ease. In his sweet, trusting innocence, he was unwittingly spilling every stray thought, every conversational tidbit, and every piece of local gossip straight into Vespera’s ear.

On the other end of the line, Vespera had initially been playing the dozens on pure, bored autopilot, offering him the standard, half-listening hums of a disinterested partner. But the exact microsecond she heard Rhys’s name drop into the conversation—specifically the detail that Rhys was currently isolated in the back of the house behind a closed door, talking privately with Ariadne—her entire demeanor shifted.

The casual boredom vanished in a heartbeat. Her posture stiffened, her eyes narrowing in the dark, and for the first time all day, Vespera actually began to listen intently to every single word.

In the office, Rhys looked down at Ariadne with a cold, impassive mask, even as his body burned with friction.

She was completely lost in the feverish euphoria of the moment, her movements growing more erratic, frantic, and desperate as she tried to keep up with his demands. Rhys showed her zero mercy. He was utterly unforgiving, holding not an ounce of pity or affection for the woman kneeling at his feet.

Gripping both of his hands firmly behind the back of her head, Rhys seized complete physical control. Without warning, he started bucking his hips forward, violently accelerating the pace to match his surging adrenaline. He leaned his weight forward, pressing her head relentlessly against the edge of the heavy wooden desk, pinning her in place.

Yet, he didn’t stop. He pushed the speed even higher, the room filling with the wet, desperate, rhythmic gulping sounds of Ariadne choking and gasping around him as she struggled to keep up with his punishing tempo.

Finally, the tipping point arrived.

With a low, ragged growl, Rhys hit his peak. He let out a massive, explosive gush, his body releasing a tidal wave of heat directly into her mouth. The volume was so intense, so overwhelming, that the thick release actually sprayed out past the corners of Ariadne’s lips, spilling down her chin.

Choking slightly on the sheer quantity, Ariadne squeezed her eyes shut and did her absolute best to take the rest, her throat working in frantic, desperate gulps to swallow every last drop he demanded of her.

Rhys stood over her, looking down at the kneeling, breathless woman as she finished cleaning him, a look of dark, supreme satisfaction resting heavily on his face—a little bit too pleased with himself, and completely unaware of the invisible web tightening around them all.
