Ch. 72 – The One and Only Omen

Rhys’s mind was rattled.

The initial illusion of control had dissolved entirely. He was now left trapped in a chaotic wrestling match that the encounter had agonizingly mutated to. Every instinct he possessed as a veteran combatant screamed at him to establish leverage, to create distance, to put an end to the madness. But every time he attempted to shift his weight or push off the mattress, Shula’s supernatural strength countered him with fluid, terrifying precision. Her Ifrit body made her skin slick with heat, her muscles supple yet unrelenting: wrapping around him like a molten vice.

Rhys tried his best to reason with her. His voice a harsh, strained whisper through the dim shadows of the guest room. "Shula, stop—this isn't what was agreed upon! You're twisting everything, this is wrong—"

Her argument stood firm, completely impervious to his logic. She merely giggled—a melodic, intensely maddening sound that felt like a mockery to his spiraling panic.

"Oh, Rhys..." she cooed, her breath searing against the sensitive column of his neck.

Without giving him a second to breathe, she bucked her hips upward with deliberate, rhythmic power to meet his, wrapping her long, toned legs firmly around his waist to lock his hips beneath her. She leaned in, her bronze lips brushing the shell of his ear as she purred with dark, intoxicating vanity: "Let me treasure you..."

I’m not your damn treasure! Rhys roared in the dark, silent theater of his own mind.

Yet, despite the fierce denial screaming through his consciousness, his traitorous body failed him. A sudden, violent ripple of visceral excitement ripped straight through his system. The sensation was overwhelming, as Shula kept going. Her hips moving in a relentless, expert rhythm while she licked him all over. She began tracing long, hot paths along his collarbone, his jaw, and his chest as if he were nothing more than a piece of sweet candy she was devouring.

He dug his elbows into the mattress, straining with every ounce of physical willpower to pull his torso away from her chest. But Shula simply adjusted her grip; her arms sliding around his shoulders to pull him right back down into her suffocating, superheated embrace.

She looked up at him through a fringe of dark lashes, her amber eyes glowing with an absolute, terrifying certainty. "You have to give in sooner or later, my sweet donor," she murmured with a smooth, knowing tone. "Your resistance is just delaying the inevitable."

Before Rhys could spit back a response, the sudden, ominous sound of footsteps echoed down the hardwood floor of the hallway outside.

Slowly. Deliberately. Stopping right on the other side of the door.

"Rhys?" Lira’s voice called out through the wood.

Her tone was tight and fragile. Devoid of its usual warmth. "Is... is everything finished in there? It’s been quiet for a while, and... it’s almost been an hour."

Rhys froze, his blood running cold in his veins. His eyes snapped toward the nightstand beside the bed, locking onto the digital display of the alarm clock in horror.

The glowing red numbers confirmed her words. What had felt like a frantic blur of mere moments, had dragged on for nearly sixty full minutes. Time had been warping, slipping away from him faster than he could even comprehend. He was trapped in a web of his own making though, and the realization hit him like a physical blow: I need to get out of Shula’s clutches, right now.

Panic seized his throat. He opened his mouth to call out, to beg his wife to burst through the door, to dismantle the lock with a single burst of her cosmic power—he stammered, a choked sound catching in his lungs—

—and then, seamlessly, the little devil on his shoulder took over the shift.

The instinct for self-preservation, sharpened by a lifetime of hiding dark secrets and navigating impossible collateral damage, hijacked his vocal cords.

"Nothing's the matter, honey!" Rhys called back through the door, forcing his voice to project a steady edge of defensive frustration. "We're... we're just having a heated argument about the terms! We'll be out soon!"

The look that spread across Shula’s face in that exact second was indescribable.

It was a terrifying cocktail of absolute triumph and vindictive glee. She didn't grant him a single inch of mercy or an escape route while he spoke to his wife. Instead, as the lies left his lips, Shula deliberately intensified her rhythm. She began bucking smoothly, powerfully beneath him. Her hips lifting him off the mattress, a possessive, smoldering smile carved across her bronze lips. She smirked up at him—a wicked taunt that clearly communicated: If a heated argument is the cover story you want... then your wish is my command.

To make the psychological trap worse, Shula raised her own voice, calling out to the hallway to add to the deception.

"He's right, Lira!" Shula chimed in smoothly, her tone laced with a cheer that made Rhys’s stomach turn. "Rhys is making a really good argument in here... but don't worry, we'll be done going over the terms very soon!"

Rhys stared down at her in jaw-dropping disbelief.

He didn't know if he should feel a twisted sense of relief for the cover story or outright terror. If anything, the audacity of her performance made him hate her infinitely more. He glared down at the woman pinned beneath him, his chest heaving with ragged breaths as a single furious thought cycled through his mind: Who the fuck is she?! This is nothing like the Shula I used to know!

And it was an undeniable fact. The noble, refined, enigmatic image of the Shula he had known for years— the dignified wife of Darius, the solemn hero, the collector of ancient artifacts—was being burned away before his very eyes. In her place stood a creature of raw, primal, uninhibited lust. Her true nature was laid bare as she accelerated her speed, her hips driving against his with relentless efficiency.

Rhys’s heart sank even further into the dark and suffocating depths of despair. He listened intently to the silence outside the room.

He didn't hear any footsteps.

Lira hadn't walked away. She was still standing right there on the other side of the thin wooden door, separated from them by only a inches of space.

Please... just walk away, Rhys pleaded silently in his head, his eyes closing in sheer agony. Please, Lira... for your own sake... for our marriage’s sake... just leave.

“But not for your own sake, huh?”

A deep, dark, resonant voice echoed suddenly from the pitch-black corner of the bedroom.

Rhys’s soul went rigid. This wasn't the cynical, sarcastic little devil that usually hovered on his shoulder to offer silver-tongued excuses. This was something else entirely—an ancient, buried aspect of his own psyche. A dormant shadow looming in the background of his consciousness that he desperately did not want to look toward.

From the hallway, Lira’s voice finally broke the silence again.

"Well... I'll be here," she said softly.

Her voice sounded uncharacteristically small, fragile, and truly broken—a whisper of a woman holding onto a cliffside by her fingertips.

And still... no sound of footsteps retreating down the carpet.

What the fuck?! Rhys thought, a wave of bewildered panic washing over him. Don't tell me she's actually waiting right outside the door for me to finish?!

Shula seemed to have noticed the lingering presence outside as well. Or, even if she did- it simply fueled her fire. She abandoned all remaining restraint, getting entirely carried away in the act.

To anyone standing in the hallway trying to play a desperate trick on their own mind for some absurd reason, the muffled sounds coming from the guest room might—just might—be rationalized as a physical disagreement. But beneath Rhys, the reality was sickeningly undeniable. The soft friction of Shula’s skin. Her stifled, breathless moans, and the hard metallic knocking of the bedframe against the baseboard told a story that was anything but an argument.

"You're... you're absolutely crazy," Rhys rasped out, glaring down at her through a daze of sweat as another overwhelming wave of physical sensation hit him. Deep within his chest, his damaged kinetic energy pulsed violently in repulsion. It was clashing against the unnatural heat flooding his system.

"And this is what you heroically volunteered for, isn't it?" Shula whispered back, her voice dripping with mock innocence.

For a fraction of a second, Rhys got a faint flash of Vespera’s manipulative grin painted far too easily over Shula’s features. It was a dark, sickening realization. He wasn't escaping his past; he was simply dealing with two different sides of the exact same predatory coin.

On his shoulder, the little devil let out a mocking laugh at the sheer tragic comedy of his life. Meanwhile, in the dark corner of his mind—the towering shadow began to stir. it took a slow, heavy step forward into his consciousness. Rhys fought with everything he had not to focus on it and also desperately tried to keep his eyes fixed on anything other than the woman beneath him.

But Shula wouldn't allow him even that escape.

She reached up, taking both of Rhys’s hands in her palms and forcefully guiding them onto her large, superheated breasts. The incredible, living warmth of her Ifrit skin filled his senses instantly, penetrating his palms and surging straight up his arms. The power aching in his chest began hammering uncomfortably against his ribs—like a wounded, desperate beast thrashing violently against the bars of a cage.

The dark figure in his mind stood up to its full, terrifying height.

Rhys was trying to hold on. He was trying to cling to the memory of his wife. For Lira! the tired, battered angel shouted in the distance. Fading still in the background of his mind. Hold on for Lira!

And then, Shula delivered the final—devastating blow.

She leaned up, trailing a long, wet lick across his cheek before her hips bucked upward with staggering force. Looking directly into his eyes, her face flushed with an unholy reverence.  She spoke with all the raw, unfiltered love in her heart:

"I could truly only ever have a child... Ahh...with the one and only... Omen!"

The thread snapped.

Rhys left the room.

His conscious mind, his morals, his desperate devotion to his wife—all of it was violently unseated. His long-suppressed, primal hero persona took full control of his body. The urges swallowed him whole. The dark figure in the corner of his mind stepped directly into the driver's seat, commandeering his nerves and muscles.

Rhys started bucking back.

The sudden, brutal shift in momentum made Shula gasp. Her head flew back as she began to shout in unbridled ecstasy. Rhys was no longer aware of the passage of time or the moral weight of his actions. It felt as though he were a helpless passenger suspended in his own skull, watching a stranger pilot his body through a war zone.

The dark entity inside him unleashed a furious and chaotic display. In the manic frenzy of the act, Rhys began shouting out as well. His voice had dropped into the booming, authoritative register of Omen. But he wasn't whispering sweet nothings; he was sternly, fiercely reprimanding Shula, roaring at her, telling her exactly how sick, twisted, and insane she was for doing this.

Shula, however, didn't care about his reprimands. She was floating in a state of euphoria, completely abandoning her wise, dignified, all-knowing demeanor. She was surrendering entirely to the raw power of the man holding her down.

In the blinding haze that consumed the room, Rhys’s conscious mind tried frantically to remember something important—a detail about a door, a wife standing outside, a boundary line—but the thoughts slipped through his fingers like sand as he was swept away. The tempestuous act was too relentless.

He finished hard.

It was a staggering release that shook his entire frame. Shula took every single drop greedily, her internal ifrit heat flaring to a magical peak. She hit her own peak simultaneously, her entire body spasming wildly. Her superhuman strength surged as her legs actually lifted Rhys’s entire body into the air, driving him down deep inside her to ensure total fertilization.

Her internal muscles contracted like an iron vise, wringing out every last drop of energy from his core. The sheer intensity of it all lasted for what felt like an eternity—a suspended moment of agonizing friction.

Then, finally... the magic receded.

Shula’s hips slowly lowered back onto the damp mattress, her chest heaving with deep, satisfied breaths.

The dark figure stepped back into the shadows of his mind, and Rhys was violently slammed back into the driver's seat of his own consciousness.

He stared down at the absolute wreck in front of him, his vision trembling as the haze cleared. He was abhorred by the sight.

Shula lay beneath him. Thoroughly spent and glowing with a deep, victorious satisfaction. But deep down in the dark corners of his psyche— the lingering shadow was far too happy. It was feeling smug and thoroughly validated by the ruthless work it had just performed.

What followed was a hollow, terrifying blur.

Rhys ripped himself away, scrambling off the bed in a silent panic. He pulled his clothes on with trembling hands. Buttoning his shirt sideways, pulling his pants up, and buckling his belt in a frantic, uncoordinated rush. He didn't say a single word to Shula, who lay on the bed watching him. She had a drowsy, triumphant smile.

He crossed the guest room in three swift steps, his hand extending toward the brass door handle.

Right before his fingers made contact with the cold metal, Rhys froze.

Paralyzing dread locked his joints. His breathing stopped dead in his chest, his heart hammering against his ribs like a sledgehammer.

He stood there in the dark, staring at the painted wood on the door. Halted by a single agonizing question:

Was Lira still waiting for him... right on the other side of this door?
