Hidden Heiress: Betrayed By Ex, Married To The Mafia King
Chapter 6: Dalias’ family heiress
"Thank you for the breakfast, Mr. Selvaggio," Soraya said politely. "And I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience I caused you and your staff."
She clasped her hands together nervously, hoping Santino wouldn’t find another reason to stop her from leaving. She had no intention of prolonging her stay in a place that made her increasingly uncomfortable.
"My driver will drop you home," Santino said, rising from his seat before walking toward the door.
Soraya hurried after him, but she fell a step behind. "I don’t want to trouble you with my personal matters. I can book a cab and leave on my own."
"The estate is far from the city. It could take another hour for a taxi to reach here," Santino explained.
He suddenly stopped and turned around, catching Soraya off guard. She nearly walked into him and immediately took a step back.
"Unless you want to stay here for another hour," he added, a faint hint of amusement in his voice.
Soraya quickly shook her head. "N-No. I’ll go with your driver."
"Great. This way, then." Santino motioned for her to follow him.
Soraya nodded and walked after him.
As soon as she stepped outside, she was taken aback by the breathtaking view. The sprawling garden stretched across the estate, its lush greenery glowing beneath the clear blue sky. For a moment, she forgot about everything that had happened and simply admired the peaceful surroundings.
Her attention soon shifted when she noticed several black cars lined up along one side of the driveway. A few men dressed in formal black suits stood nearby, speaking among themselves. However, the moment they noticed Santino approaching, their conversation ceased.
They immediately straightened and lowered their heads in respect.
Soraya glanced between them and Santino, realizing once again just how much authority the man possessed.
"Dante, drop Miss Soraya safely at her home," Santino ordered his driver.
Dante nodded promptly before getting into the driver’s seat.
Soraya was about to climb into the passenger seat when Santino suddenly caught her wrist and gently pulled her a little closer.
"You’re going to come back," he said with unwavering confidence. "I’ll be waiting for you."
Soraya tilted her head up and stared at him in confusion. She couldn’t understand why he sounded so certain that she would return. His faint smile only left her more bewildered.
Without responding, she quickly pulled her wrist free and got into the car.
"Please drive," she told Dante, hoping to end the strange conversation as quickly as possible.
Two hours later, Soraya finally arrived at her home, the small apartment she had purchased through monthly installments. After everything that had happened over the past twenty-four hours, she was relieved to finally be back in her home.
However, the moment she reached her door, she froze.
The door was wide open.
Panicked, she immediately pushed it open and rushed inside, her eyes scanning the apartment.
She stopped dead in her tracks.
An elderly yet elegant couple was seated in the center of her couch, while a man in his thirties stood near the window with his hands behind his back.
Soraya stared at the unfamiliar strangers in disbelief. Her heart began pounding as she instinctively took a step back.
"Who are you?" she demanded, frowning as she glared at them. "And how did you get into my house?"
The woman on the couch immediately stood up and rushed toward Soraya, pulling her into a warm embrace.
"My daughter, Soraya," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. "You’re alive."
Soraya froze, completely bewildered by the sudden embrace. She quickly pushed the woman away and took a step back.
"What are you talking about?" she demanded. "Your daughter? I’m not your daughter. And how do you even know my name?"
She reached for her phone, her suspicion growing with every passing second. "If you don’t explain yourselves right now, I’m calling the police."
"Soraya, we are your family," the older man said, his voice steady but filled with emotion.
He rose from the couch and gestured toward the woman beside him.
"I’m your father, Antoine Dalias. This is your mother, Evelina Dalias." He then pointed toward the man standing near the window. "And he is your elder brother, Angelo Dalias."
Soraya stared at them in disbelief.
"I don’t have a family," she said firmly. "How dare you make up such a story and barge into my house? You’re fraudsters!"
She immediately dialed the police, but before she could make the call, Angelo hurried forward and snatched the phone from her hand.
"Little sister, don’t do that," he said, holding the phone away from her. "I know you’re scared and confused, but we aren’t lying to you."
He looked directly into her eyes.
"You’re Dalias family’s heiress, Soraya Dalias."
Soraya’s expression remained doubtful. She was about to argue again when Angelo turned toward his parents.
"We should show her the DNA test report."
Evelina immediately opened her purse and pulled out a document. With trembling hands, she held it out to Soraya.
"Look, Soraya. This is the DNA report. You are our daughter." Her voice broke as tears slipped down her cheeks. "We lost you a long time ago. There’s so much you don’t know, baby. It’s a very long story."
Seeing the woman cry made Soraya feel uneasy, but she still couldn’t bring herself to believe what they were saying.
She reluctantly took the report from Evelina and began reading it.
Her eyes widened as she reached the results.
The DNA test confirmed that she was biologically related to Antoine and Evelina.
"H-How?" Soraya stammered, looking up from the report. "How did you get my DNA sample? This is the first time I’ve ever met you."
Angelo smiled faintly, as though he had expected that question.
"Santino helped us. He’s a good friend of mine," he explained. "He was the one who told us about you. He said he had finally found you."
Soraya’s eyes widened further at the mention of Santino’s name. "So, that’s what he meant when he said I would come back," Soraya murmured with a disbelieving chuckle. She shook her head, realizing that Santino had somehow known exactly how this situation would unfold.
Her suspicion, however, remained unchanged.
"I don’t believe any of you," she said firmly. "Give me my phone."
Antoine looked at his son and nodded calmly. "Give her the phone, Angelo. Let her confirm everything with the police herself."
Angelo hesitated for a moment before handing the phone back to Soraya.
The moment it was in her hand, she immediately dialed the police station.
