High Martial Arts: Grinding for the Supreme Talent
Chapter 543 - 517: Conflict and Revenge
Chapter 543: Chapter 517: Conflict and Revenge
Lin Qi looked at his ranking on the overall leaderboard—3,580. That put him in the bottom 20.
The 19 people behind him were probably all Seventh Realm Martial Artists who had just stepped onto the battlefield.
Looking at the rankings again, he felt that Xia Country’s High Realm Martial Artists were all quite strong.
On second thought, it made sense. They were either Awakened geniuses who had broken through all the way to the Seventh Realm, meaning their strength was by no means weak.
Obtaining Merit Points wasn’t difficult.
Ordinary geniuses, on the other hand, joined the battlefield early. By the time they reached the Seventh Realm, they would have already accumulated plenty of Merit Points.
The rankings were based on cumulative Merit Points.
It didn’t matter if you spent your Merit Points, as the rankings were based on your total lifetime earnings.
Next, he clicked on the base leaderboard.
[#80: Xu Qin (Wood Flower Sword)]
[#100: Gu Cheng (Fire Dragon Saber)]
...
Just as he’d thought, Gu Cheng had already broken into the top 100.
Looking at his own rank of 404, he realized the gap was massive.
As a Top-Level genius, his goal was, of course, to be number one on the Seventh Realm overall leaderboard.
This was only the first day. Give him a few months, and he was confident he could break into the top 50; even the top ten wasn’t out of the question.
Lin Qi took a quick look at the [Ranking] module in the House of War.
It was divided into various leaderboards, with the most famous being the leaderboards for the Nine Great Realms.
These leaderboards were further divided into base rankings and overall rankings.
The most talked-about rankings were those for the Sixth through Ninth Realms.
Moreover, famous Martial Artists all had their own nicknames. Gu Cheng, for instance, was known as Fire Dragon Saber.
His own teacher, Mu Hong, was nicknamed Blood Shadow Spear!
His nickname at Azure Sky Martial Arts Academy was Mountain Monarch.
Now that he was on the battlefield, he’d probably get a new nickname.
’I just hope it’s not something awful,’ Lin Qi thought. He would rather go without a nickname than be stuck with a bad one.
...
"This just in: a large-scale Disaster Beast Tide has once again erupted at Black Dragon Base in our nation’s North River Province!"
"Thanks to their strenuous efforts, the Disaster Beast Tide has been suppressed. More and more Martial Artists are now arriving at Black Dragon Base."
"We are confident that they can repel the Calamity Beast invasion..."
At 7:00 p.m., dinnertime, the evening news began right on schedule across all of Xia Country, providing real-time updates on the situation at the various War Bases.
And Black Dragon Base was invariably featured in the news.
Watching reports of Black Dragon Base suppressing another Disaster Beast Tide had become a part of everyone’s daily life.
As long as Black Dragon Base hadn’t fallen, there was no reason to panic.
Every time they watched Black Dragon Base suppress a large-scale Disaster Beast Tide, it gave them a great sense of security.
Watching the news, eating dinner, another day passed peacefully.
...
「North River Province. Outside Black Dragon Base, on the battlefield.」
BOOM! BOOM!
ROAR!!
The battle was winding down, and the Laser Cannons had already ceased fire.
Only the Martial Artists were still hunting Calamity Beasts.
PFFT~
The towering Gu Cheng, clad in crimson Battle Armor, was wreathed in flames, resembling a mythical Fire God.
The Battle Saber in his hand was coated in waves of crimson Sword Gang. With a sudden slash, he sent the Sword Gang whistling through the air to strike a colossal Strong Ape.
The Seventh-Level Calamity Beast was in a wretched state, blood gushing everywhere. The Sword Gang had struck it squarely in the neck.
THUD!!
Blood sprayed like a fountain as its massive body crashed to the ground.
Gu Cheng glanced around coldly. The Disaster Beast Tide had been thoroughly crushed.
Only a few scattered High-Level Calamity Beasts remained.
He sheathed his Battle Saber and smiled as he looked at the Strong Ape’s corpse.
’Another 7,000 Merit Points in the bag!’
He turned and headed back to the base, his day of fighting over.
After returning to the base, the first thing he did was to check the leaderboard.
He saw he was still in 100th place, with no change at all.
He then checked on a few other geniuses he kept an eye on. Even if they had made some small gains, none of them outranked him.
Next, he looked up Xu Qin. Seeing that she was still at rank 80, he breathed a sigh of relief.
’As expected of a Top-Level genius with two Awakened Abilities. She really is something else!’
’We arrived at the base on the same day, but she already has way more Merit Points than me.’
Gu Cheng sighed. He was still a good deal behind her.
He closed the leaderboard and opened his Micro-Comm to check his messages.
He always turned off his notifications while hunting Calamity Beasts.
Now that the battle was over, he could finally catch up.
His expression darkened when he saw a message from his younger brother, Gu Ming.
"Gu Cheng!"
An acquaintance greeted him as he walked down the path.
Gu Cheng glanced over, saw it was just a Sixth Realm Martial Artist, and didn’t even bother to respond, simply walking away.
A moment later, inside a luxurious office in the residential area, Gu Ming limped over to a sofa and sat down, recounting the day’s events in full detail.
Finally, he said through gritted teeth:
"That’s what happened, brother. You have to get revenge for me!"
His family was wealthy, so after taking precious Potions like Top-Grade Healing and Bone Healing Ointment, his injuries were already seventy to eighty percent healed within a day.
He lay in bed for a day, constantly replaying the day’s events in his mind.
Being forced to kneel by Lin Qi in front of everyone had been an unbearable humiliation.
He was a young master of the Gu Family! He was supposed to be the one bullying others, not the other way around. When had he ever been wronged like this?
Gu Cheng took out his phone. Watching the projected video, his expression grew dark as he asked:
"This Lin Qi... he knew you were my brother, and he still attacked you?"
"Yes!" Gu Ming nodded.
A surge of anger rose in Gu Cheng.
"I’ll make him come over and apologize to you!"
"Bullying someone from our Gu Family, who does he think he is?!"
He then pulled out his phone, opened Micro-Comm, and searched for Lin Qi.
He sent Lin Qi a contact request.
