Chapter 270: Chapter 166: One Slash to Slay the Great Sun

Countless demonic figures of all shapes and sizes flickered in and out of view, their savage roars echoing without end.

"How is this possible?!" Lin Yue’s adjutant cried out beside him. "It’s only been three days! Aren’t they afraid of losing everything here?"

Lin Yue’s lips were set in a thin line, his gaze as sharp as a hawk’s.

"It’s precisely because this is so irrational that it’s so dangerous! The prize of some ordinary little county isn’t worth a Demon King investing so recklessly on such short notice! There has to be a much larger scheme at play here!"

"Now! Send the highest-level distress signal again!" Lin Yue roared without a moment’s hesitation.

The words had barely left his mouth when the communications soldier at the rear sent out the highest-level distress signal.

He scanned the seven defenders at his side—the entirety of the force he could currently command.

Most of them were emergency reinforcements from nearby.

"Positions! Prepare for battle! We’re not trying to annihilate them, just buy time! We have to hold on until reinforcements arrive!"

No more words were needed. The seven immediately spread out into the most effective defensive formation.

Two members specializing in defensive Divine Bodies let out a low growl. In an instant, a pale yellow domain and a grayish-blue one unfurled, stacking in front of them like two enormous energy shields.

Meanwhile, in a seemingly unremarkable corner of the vast Demon Race horde opposite them...

...a two-tailed Fox Demon with fiery red fur and exceptionally cold eyes—Chi Ling—was tightly encircled by dozens of powerful demonic guards.

Under the cover of the chaotic demonic aura her companions deliberately emitted, a glint of cunning and anticipation flashed in Chi Ling’s eyes. She silently swallowed the three-tailed Celestial Fox Demon Core.

A powerful and clandestine energy instantly erupted within her, surging violently.

A torrential power, strong enough to stir the vital energy of heaven and earth, was brewing and compressing within her, about to shatter the barrier that had shackled her for a decade! But she cleverly disguised and suppressed it all.

The demonic aura on the surface of her body remained steadily at the level of the Late-stage Bright Moon Realm.

This level of power was enough to be a significant factor on the battlefield, yet not high enough to draw the utmost vigilance or targeted attacks from the Human Race.

From over ten kilometers away, shrouded by the chaotic aura of the battlefield and concealed by the dense demonic army in front...

...none of the Divine Body defenders of Nanzha County, including their captain, Lin Yue, whose mind was stretched taut as he focused completely on the coming battle...

...had the slightest inkling that a fatal threat was quietly undergoing a transformation deep within the enemy’s core.

"ROAR—!"

"SCREECH—!"

With earth-shattering roars, the black tide of the Demon Race army surged forward like a burst dam, launching a ferocious charge on the gates of Nanzha County.

The wall of light formed by the defensive domains trembled violently, letting out a dull rumble.

Several scorching beams of light and violent blasts of frost slammed into the domain barrier, sending ripples and cracks spreading across its surface.

"Hold the line!" Lin Yue roared, condensing an energy warhammer in his hand and smashing away a large, serpent-like demon that tried to pounce from the side.

At the same time, a Divine Body user specializing in ranged attacks drew their bow, and dozens of sharp energy arrows shot forth with a piercing whistle, instantly puncturing the skulls of several Low Tier demon soldiers.

Another member, an offensive specialist, moved like the wind with his Body Technique, dual blades in hand. Under the cover of the defenders, he seized an opening as the domain repelled a wave of attacks. He lunged forward, his blades flashing like a bolt of white silk, and instantly sliced two Flying Star Level Wolf Demons into several pieces as they were caught between attacks.

However, the Demon Race’s advantage in numbers was simply too great.

The defensive Divine Body users’ domains struggled to hold under the relentless bombardment, their light visibly dimming.

Every forward charge and kill made by the offensive Divine Body users came with immense risk and a heavy consumption of True Essence.

Chi Ling’s figure moved like a phantom, mingling with the tide of attacking demons.

She struck. Her movements were astonishingly fast, yet she deliberately held back her full power.

Her claws tore through the air, easily batting away a member of the Human Race’s Divine Body users who tried to intercept her. But she didn’t press the attack to kill, merely forcing him back. It seemed her focus was solely on breaking through a specific point in the defensive line.

Yet her gaze periodically swept the distant horizon, filled with cold anticipation and a hint of imperceptible impatience.

The battle was a brutal stalemate.

The outer fortifications of the pass continuously crumbled under the Demon Race’s frenzied assault.

Under immense pressure, the Human Race’s defensive line kept falling back, contracting to resist from behind the remaining fortifications and the sturdier inner-city domain barrier.

Time ticked by, second by agonizing second, each one feeling like an eternity in a crucible.

The defenders’ True Essence and stamina were plummeting. Wounds, both large and small, began to appear on their bodies, staining their armor with blood.

Under the cold starlight, the outskirts of Nanzha County had become a slaughterhouse.

When Li Wen tore through the night sky in his flying vehicle, descending like a thunderbolt, the thick stench of blood was almost tangible.

As far as the eye could see, the defensive line constructed by the Human Race’s defenders was riddled with holes. The bodies of Divine Body warriors and demons lay strewn across the ground in nearly equal numbers, a testament to the brutal fighting and the immense losses on both sides.

Of the original seven defenders, including Captain Lin Yue, fewer than three were still standing, each of them wounded and covered in blood.

In front of the fortress, the Demon Race army was still charging ferociously, though their assault was less intense than before. It was clear they too had paid a heavy price.

Li Wen hovered steadily in the air, his gaze sweeping over the battlefield like a blade of ice. He did not immediately rush into the bloody maelstrom.

Only three days had passed, and the Demon Race had already returned, their assault even more ferocious than before. This was by no means normal.

’Something this unusual can’t be a good sign.’ When it came to battle, Li Wen’s principle had always been to plan before making a move.
