High School of Demon Hunting
Chapter 3062 - 75: Exposed
Chapter 3062: Chapter 75: Exposed
Midnight.
Greenhill Mansion.
Zheng Su 123’s bedroom.
The three Great Elves, Poseidon, and Su Ya—five little critters altogether—were crowded on a big bed, burying their heads under the covers and arguing about something in low but intense voices.
The Ruby Ring that belonged to Belfinger was lying quietly on the velvet cloth between the five little heads, sending out a faint ripple of summoning Magic Power.
"—This time it’s my turn!"
Zheng Su Shan knocked her little fist down in annoyance, but unfortunately the fist just sank into the quilt, not producing the slightest bit of momentum.
"—But, you’ve been grounded by Miss!" Su Ya reminded her very seriously. "Miss’s grounding Magic is super powerful! The moment you leave the mansion, she’ll know right away..."
"Then what do we do?" Zheng Su Shuang bit her finger.
"Swap shifts! Change people... Who’s up next?" The pair of furry ears in Su Ya’s hair suddenly stood straight up with a snap, turning this way and that with great swagger.
"Dong Dong..." Zheng Su Yi pointed at the dazed Little Fox.
Poseidon’s eyes lit up.
She hadn’t even managed to open her mouth before Su Ya forcibly cut her off.
"No way! It’s so late, Dong Dong can’t just go out! Miss will skin me—and you guys—alive... There are lots of Black Wizards on Buji Island! What if you go out and get snatched by a crow? ...They really love eating little kids!"
She was scaring the Little Fox who hadn’t been in human form for long, then circled back to her earlier question: "—So we have to skip Dong Dong again this time. Who’s up next?"
Three fingers pointed at her in unison.
Su Ya gave a theatrical little "ya": "—Oh dear, it’s my turn again? Well, since that’s how it is, I’ll reluctantly go in your stead..."
Her big tail, which was sticking out from the covers, swished back and forth in delight.
It was just that the other little critters with their heads buried under the covers did not see this scene.
Zheng Su Shan was still brooding over the grounding order; Su Shuang and Su Yi quietly comforted her. Dong Dong, with her chance for a night outing gone, had started dozing off again.
Su Ya, thoroughly satisfied, stretched out her hand and grabbed for that Ruby Ring.
...
...
The scene shifted.
Time rewound to a few months ago.
Under the Cat Fruit Tree at the First University.
Poseidon was acting on behalf of the Lord of the Cat Fruit Tree, collecting the quarterly offerings of fruit from the tree.
When Zheng Qing saw this, he was speechless, not knowing where these kids had picked up this whole ritual set-up. Nor did he understand why the Cat Fruits on the tree acknowledged her as the one to inherit the position of Lord of the Cat Fruit Tree.
Curious, he nudged the scene forward a bit, and when he saw a Big Fox and a Little White Cat bringing a Little Fox together under the Cat Fruit Tree, the young Legend decisively cut the scene back to the moment of handing over offerings.
Looking again now, he felt everything above and below the tree looked organized and harmonious.
Poseidon, wrapped in a little black Cloak, sat on a wooden stake with great authority. Furry Bean squatted to her left, Su Ya stood to her right, and Zheng Su 123 lined up behind her in a row. Above their heads circled a ring of Green Sprites fluttering and chirping "Hehe", and on the fresh lotus leaf before them lay all the offerings from the big and small cats on the tree.
Only, unlike the gemstones or fragments of Magic Creatures that Zheng Qing could receive, the offerings the Cat Fruits gave Poseidon were much more of a mixed bag.
Among them were Magic Herbs that weren’t particularly rare, like Mistletoe Berries, Fire Feather Flower, and tender Valerian branches; there were also half-hearted offerings like white mouse heads, dried turtle shell, and glowing moss; and then there was a Ruby Ring.
It was that ring of Belfinger’s.
It shimmered among a pile of junk, making it hard for anyone not to notice its presence.
Zheng Qing did not keep watching the five little things cheerfully celebrating after picking up the ring. Instead, he frowned and carefully traced the ring’s origins.
This ring was an offering from a brown hunting cat.
Hunting cats are the kind of cat that loves catching birds. Following its tracks, Zheng Qing easily pieced together the whole story. The previous Belfinger, perhaps addicted to turning into a bird, would often transform into one in broad daylight and fly around everywhere. A shape-shifting wizard like him, who hadn’t registered, had no Protect Legal Formation from the school to monitor and protect him at all times, so one day he was very tragically ambushed by a falcon. After a chaotic fight, Belfinger not only had many beautiful feathers pecked off by the falcon, but also lost his Seven Sins ring.
The ring was carried to the falcon’s nest.
Then it was swiped by the hunting cat that came to steal chicks, and taken away as a casual spoil of war, eventually being offered to Poseidon.
The whole process was tightly linked, seamless.
No matter how much Zheng Qing sorted through the useful clues, he couldn’t find anything abnormal—the Belfinger who lost his identity ring was just an ordinary student at Jiuyou Academy, with no background whatsoever, which was why he was so obsessed with his newly mastered Transformation Technique; the falcon that attacked him had long been hunting in that airspace; the hunting cat that stole the Ruby Ring had wrecked more than one nest nearby—from any angle, this was simply a chain of coincidences.
And Zheng Qing did not believe in coincidences.
Just like the previous Vortex Captain, who had now turned into a few lines of Rune on his silver pocket watch. His Death might look like a coincidence to Low-level Wizards and Demons, but in the eyes of Legends, it was the inevitable outcome.
...
...
Seven Deadly Sins Conference Room.
In front of the Molten Lava Long Table.
Zheng Qing took a slow breath, slanting a glance at Su Ya, who had no idea her identity had already been exposed and was still swaying her head, looking around curiously. He pondered how Shi Jun would deal with this girl once he told Su Shijun about all this.
She’d already given Zheng Qing quite a scare the moment she came through the door.
He hadn’t expected that every little thing at home, one by one, would get dragged into this as well—truly enough to make one’s scalp tingle. If what they’d picked up hadn’t been a Seven Sins ring but some bait tossed out by other Demons or who-knows-what monsters... who knew what might have happened!
At that thought, a surge of anger rose in him again.
Su Ya and the others had sneaked in more than once, yet that Shadow Cat bastard hadn’t noticed a thing.
Damned ridiculous!
"—What about that cat?"
A somewhat abrupt voice sounded in the conference room. The speaker was the "Belfinger" who came in last. She was wearing that gold-and-red bird Mask, looking toward the Sin Bearer at the head of the table with unabashed curiosity in her tone. "Didn’t it do a pretty good job?"
The other Devils couldn’t hide the astonishment in their eyes, not knowing what kind of fit Belfinger was throwing. Couldn’t she see that today’s Sin Bearer had already been replaced, and was very likely a Big Wizard?
Zheng Qing’s mind stirred slightly.
He waved a hand and laid down a Barrier, cutting off the other six Devils.
"You know where that cat came from?" The Sin Bearer’s voice was deep. He paused, then added another question: "—Then do you know who I am?"
"Aren’t you Zheng Qing?"
Su Ya sounded completely matter-of-fact.
