Chapter 121: Chapter 121 — I’m Sorry

Chapter 121 — I’m Sorry

Although Nicolas was surprised that Snape could see the diary, he was furious now.

Snape and Nicolas Flamel immediately got into an argument.

Vesey stood to the side, completely stunned.

She really wanted to persuade them to stop, but she was worried that saying too much might offend someone.

Fortunately, Dumbledore pulled her aside and started asking her questions. That left her free to glance nervously toward Snape and Nicolas from time to time.

"Vesey, I’m sorry..."

Dumbledore had a guilty look on his face.

"Both then and now."

He had to admit that even the curse Vesey had helped him block had been part of his scheme.

He was almost constantly calculating against human nature.

But when he actually saw how his actions had affected Vesey, he felt extremely guilty.

Vesey pretended not to know what he was thinking. She looked blank for a moment, then immediately smiled again.

"It doesn’t matter. Although I don’t know what you did wrong, I forgive you!"

She forgave him generously, gaining a large number of Energy Points in the process.

Dumbledore even covered his eyes slightly.

After a while, he finally recovered.

"All right, child. Let’s not talk about this anymore. I think you should become Mr. Nicolas’s student, right?"

Nicolas immediately stopped arguing with Snape.

His ears practically perked up.

Vesey almost laughed.

She nodded vigorously.

"Yes! Mr. Nicolas is my teacher, Headmaster. He’s very good. He didn’t agree to let me leave, though.

"And I’ve had a very good life here these past few days. I like my teacher, my mistress, the house-elves, the plants in the garden, and this manor!"

Her words made Nicolas Flamel’s lips curl into a pleased smile.

He looked at Snape smugly.

He remembered that the diary had said Snape would die young.

In the end, wasn’t he the one who had spent the most time with Vesey?

What could Snape possibly compare with him?

Dumbledore and the others didn’t let Vesey hear the rest of their discussion.

She found it boring anyway, so she went back to reading.

After everyone finished discussing the matter, Vesey officially became Nicolas’s student, with "Nicolas" even added to her name.

From then on, her full name was Vesey Nicolas James Potter.

She would study at Nicolas’s manor during every summer holiday from then on. As for Christmas, she could choose whether she wanted to come or not.

After Vesey nodded in agreement, Dumbledore dragged Snape away.

Vesey spent the next few days studying at Nicolas’s manor.

Although everyone called it studying, Vesey was incredibly efficient whenever she "read." Nicolas Flamel and the others assumed that she would quietly memorize the entire contents of the books and then study them in her mind late into the night.

This made them increasingly uneasy.

Nicolas even started taking Vesey to the amusement park to play, hoping she could experience the happiness of an ordinary child.

Vesey was especially fond of roller coasters.

She felt much safer than she had in her previous life.

Since she couldn’t die, she felt that her fear of heights was gradually disappearing!

The day before school started, a house-elf took Vesey out to buy her school supplies.

Before she left, both Nicolas and Perenelle told her that she would be happy.

Vesey imagined that they had prepared a castle made of gold for her.

But when the house-elf took her there, she discovered that Nicolas had contacted the Weasley family.

Harry and the others were all waiting for her at the Leaky Cauldron!

The joy on Vesey’s face instantly disappeared.

The next second, worried that she would look too much like a money-grubber, she immediately made her eyes turn red. Then she rushed over and hugged Harry, who had already run toward her.

"Brother, are you all right?"

Her eyes were red, and she looked as though she was about to cry.

Harry nodded vigorously.

He couldn’t even speak.

Before coming here, he had thought about giving Vesey a proper scolding.

She had actually blocked someone else’s curse!

If it had been a Killing Curse, she would have died.

But after actually seeing Vesey, all those words became stuck in his throat.

He couldn’t say them.

Vesey already looked so sad. How could he bring those things up again?

And then there were those vampire wizards.

Harry could hardly suppress the murderous look in his eyes.

Those people had hurt Vesey and had even spread images of her everywhere.

Although Vesey had only had a few buttons undone, in Harry’s mind, that alone was already unforgivable.

According to Mr. Weasley, when he had gone to rescue Vesey, she had been so frightened that she screamed.

Just thinking about it made Harry’s heart ache.

Although Vesey seemed to have recovered now, Harry thought it would be better never to mention that incident again.

He didn’t want Vesey to be sad anymore.

He rubbed Vesey’s head and then pulled her toward the Weasley family.

Without even needing an introduction, Mrs. Weasley gave Vesey a loving hug.

"Good girl. They all told me that if it weren’t for you, I don’t know how many other children would have been hurt. And you even saved Ron from those people..."

Her eyes filled with tears.

Vesey quickly shook her head.

"I wasn’t trying to save anyone. Those people were originally after me.

"If they had managed to capture me first, they definitely wouldn’t have hurt those students...

"It’s all my fault. Millicent was even transformed..."

[...]

Vesey’s throat tightened.

She turned her head away as though she were trying to hide the pain in her eyes.

Harry and the others felt even more heartbroken.

It was obvious that Vesey was the victim, yet because of what those people had said, she had begun to think of herself as a bad person.

Harry desperately wanted to shake her shoulders and make her understand that none of this was her fault.

She was the greatest victim of all.

She had done everything she could.

She shouldn’t be so hard on herself.

But no matter what they said, Vesey only gave them a guilty smile.

It seemed as though she wanted to reassure them and tell them that she really was fine, and that she wasn’t foolish enough to believe that everything was her fault.

But that expression only made everyone worry about her even more.

Harry and the others became extremely careful whenever they spoke to her.

They were afraid that a single wrong sentence might make her suffer even more.

Vesey felt that she was truly being wronged here.

She had absolutely no intention of making everyone feel sad.

She had merely shown a slightly guilty smile or a little confusion, and everyone had reacted like this.

In short, none of this had anything to do with her desire to gain Energy Points.

Even though she had earned hundreds of Energy Points through her acting skills, she would never admit that the current situation was actually the result of all her hard work.

Obviously, Harry and his friends simply had too strong a sense of morality and were far too empathetic toward her.

She had only made a small contribution to the whole situation.

Yes.

That was all.
