Chapter 133 — She’s Always So Cute

Harry felt extremely guilty.

Not only did he feel guilty toward the Weasleys, but he also felt guilty toward Vesey.

Vesey hadn’t eaten anything the previous day and had only managed to drink a little porridge that morning, yet she had hurried over to help them.

His sister was obviously very worried about him, but because she was afraid he would feel sad, she had even forced herself to smile.

Harry was almost overwhelmed by guilt.

He stood up and hugged Vesey tightly.

"I’m sorry, Vesey. I thought I could—I..."

He wanted to properly apologize.

But then he saw the sincerity in Vesey’s eyes.

"Brother, I know you were just worried. You were afraid you wouldn’t be able to come to Hogwarts. You must have been very scared at the time. It’s all my fault.

"I almost couldn’t sleep last night after reading Headmaster Dumbledore’s letter.

"I know you’re usually the one who takes care of me, and I’ve always been enjoying your protection. But I forgot that you’re not just my brother.

"You’re also a child the same age as me. I should have been there with you. If we had been together, you definitely wouldn’t have made a decision like that!"

Harry’s throat tightened.

He had clearly been the one apologizing to Vesey, yet in the end, he was the one hearing her apologize to him.

Those words only made Harry feel even guiltier.

Vesey had always believed that he took good care of her.

But he really hadn’t done much.

And whenever something happened to him, he ended up making Vesey worry about him instead.

When he had seen Vesey being taken away by those people, he had nearly gone mad.

He had thought Vesey was dead.

Yet there had been nothing he could do.

He couldn’t even find her.

What kind of brother am I?

Harry’s eyes turned red.

Vesey immediately became flustered.

"Brother, why are you crying? Did Headmaster Dumbledore say something to you? Or did I say something too harsh just now? I—"

Harry quickly covered her mouth.

My silly sister, stop talking.

If she continued, he really was going to cry.

Anyway, after Harry and Vesey reconciled, Hermione’s attitude toward Harry and Ron softened considerably.

She even gave them the password to the Gryffindor common room.

The first class after breakfast was Herbology.

Harry and Vesey arrived at the greenhouses together.

The students were gathered outside, waiting for Herbology to begin.

Professor Sprout hadn’t arrived yet.

After waiting for a while, Professor Sprout finally came over from the grounds.

She was wearing a somewhat tattered robe, and several bandages were wrapped around her arms.

Harry looked in the direction she had come from.

The Whomping Willow.

There were numerous bandages wrapped around the tree as well. The damage was obviously quite serious.

Harry felt a little guilty and hoped Professor Sprout wouldn’t be angry with him.

Professor Sprout wasn’t actually angry with Harry.

She was angry with Lockhart.

All morning, Lockhart had been following her around, claiming that he wanted to help.

In reality, he hadn’t done anything except talk.

He had even claimed that he could take care of the Whomping Willow and restore it to perfect condition in less than ten minutes.

But when Professor Sprout actually tried to hand the Whomping Willow over to him, he had been so frightened that he nearly fell over.

Seriously, did Dumbledore really find this man to be a professor?

Professor Sprout walked over with a dark expression.

She was just about to greet her students when she heard Lockhart shamelessly announce,

"Hello, students! I was just giving Professor Sprout a demonstration on how to bandage the Whomping Willow. It was truly exhausting, but I won’t complain..."

Professor Sprout stared at him in disbelief.

How can someone be this shameless?

When he talks like this, does he really think people will find him charming?

Professor Sprout couldn’t take it anymore.

She said wearily,

"Today, we’re going to the third greenhouse."

Everyone’s eyes widened.

They had only visited the first greenhouse before.

They had heard that the plants in the second and third greenhouses were considerably more dangerous.

At this point, Harry didn’t pay much attention to Lockhart.

He didn’t think Lockhart had anything to do with him.

Unfortunately, Lockhart stopped him.

"Oh, I’m sorry, Professor Sprout. I think I need to have a little talk with Harry. You wouldn’t mind, would you?"

Professor Sprout’s mouth twitched.

She very much wanted to say that she did mind.

But Lockhart was already pulling Harry aside.

Harry had no idea what Lockhart wanted.

He could only stare at him blankly.

"Professor?"

Lockhart smiled.

"Harry, Harry... What am I supposed to say to you? I never would have imagined that you would do something like this. It must have been because of me..."

"If I had known this would happen, I never would have taken you to have those photographs taken that day..."

"I know this feeling must be rather intoxicating. It can make you develop unrealistic delusions..."

Harry had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.

"Sorry, I don’t understand..."

Lockhart gave him a knowing look.

He seemed to think Harry was merely pretending.

He smiled.

"All right, we both know what’s going on. Harry, I know you’re just an ordinary child who wants to be in the limelight.

"I know making the headlines that day made you very proud. But I have to tell you, the reason you made the headlines was because of your sister.

"Her beautiful appearance made it impossible for the newspapers to leave her out of the story. That’s why you were able to make the headlines.

"It had nothing to do with your ability or your past achievements.

"Just look at Vesey! She knows she’s not suited to being in the spotlight, so she never tried to seek attention again.

"You should learn from her. If you keep relying on that same face, people will eventually get tired of it. What you’re doing now isn’t good for you.

"Listen to someone with experience: Harry, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to make the headlines in the future. But for now, you should concentrate on your studies.

"All right, go back to class."

After saying all that, Lockhart turned and walked away.

Harry stared at his back in stunned silence.

He suddenly felt that, apart from Snape, Lockhart might be the most annoying professor he’d ever had.

He stared after Lockhart for a while before finally remembering that he needed to return to class.

He quietly pushed open the greenhouse door and walked along the edge until he reached Vesey’s side.

Vesey was attending the lesson with Hermione and the others.

Harry didn’t dare disturb them, so he quietly sat down beside them.

"Who can tell me about the properties of mandrakes? Come on, Vesey!"

Professor Sprout called on Vesey without hesitation.

Vesey stood up and answered with a smile,

"Mandrakes are powerful restorative plants. Their properties can restore people who have been transformed or placed under certain magical spells to their original state."

"Five points to Slytherin! Excellent!"

Professor Sprout said with a smile.

She liked Vesey the most and considered her one of the hardest-working students at Hogwarts.

"Mandrake is an important ingredient in many antidotes. Of course, it can also be dangerous. Can anyone tell me why?"

Professor Sprout looked at Vesey again.

"Oh, let Vesey answer! She’s always so cute. Who wouldn’t want to give her some points?"
