Hogwarts Diary: Snape Goes Crazy
Chapter 154 - 153 — Polyjuice Potion
Chapter 154: Chapter 153 — Polyjuice Potion
Chapter 153 — Polyjuice Potion
Ron and Harry were furious at Percy’s injustice.
"What are you thinking? We just came here to take a look and look for clues!"
Percy’s expression softened, and he gave them a meaningful look. For some reason, he looked a little like Mrs. Weasley.
He said sternly, "All right, go back quickly, and don’t come here again. Boys shouldn’t be in this place. I think you know what that means!"
Ron was furious.
He raised his voice and shouted, "What do you mean? We didn’t do anything...
"I get it! You’re just like everyone else. You suspect that we were the ones who killed that cat. But listen, we didn’t lay a finger on that cat!"
Percy snorted.
"That’s not necessarily true. Every time Ginny hears about this, she worries that you’ll be expelled. I really hope you can be a little more honest. Look at Vesey. She never causes trouble!"
Ron’s face flushed with anger.
"Listen, we’ve never caused trouble! And I don’t think you care about Ginny that much. Don’t pretend to be a good person here. You’re just worried that us being here will affect your future as Head Boy..."
Percy’s face turned red.
He fiddled with the prefect badge on his chest and said stiffly, "Very well. Since you put it that way, five points from Gryffindor. If I find you here again, I’ll report you to Professor McGonagall!"
Then he strode away.
The back of his neck was as red as Ron’s face.
That afternoon, they were doing their homework in the library. Vesey was "looking for information," while Harry and the others kept their distance from Percy, and Ron remained furious.
Especially when his wand started acting up again, setting the parchment he had just finished writing on fire.
It nearly drove him mad.
Hermione was just as annoyed.
She was furious too.
Harry noticed that Hermione seemed to be muttering something under her breath.
Finally, she irritably scratched at her hair and said, "I’ve memorized all of them, and I still haven’t found anything that specifically says who did it. They’re all filled with insignificant things!"
She complained angrily.
Then she glanced guiltily at Vesey.
Vesey sighed. She guessed Hermione had been trying to memorize something from the diary, so she could only give her an awkward but polite smile.
She hadn’t written the diary to spoil the story.
She had only done it to increase everyone’s trust, win their favor, and earn rewards for herself.
So, if they wanted to get more information from her diary, they would have to go to sleep!
Everything was in the dreams!
Of course, Vesey couldn’t say any of that.
She merely put on a puzzled expression and looked innocently at Hermione.
Hermione rubbed her hair and laughed.
"It’s all right. You can keep reading!"
Vesey obediently nodded and continued reading.
Hermione then turned to Harry and Ron.
"Tell me, who did this? Who wants to drive all the Muggle-born students out of Hogwarts?"
Ron smiled.
"I think it’s easy to figure out. Tell me, who hates Squibs and Muggle-borns the most?"
Who hated them the most?
That was practically a question with only one answer.
Because, as everyone knew, Slytherins hated them the most.
And among them, the one who hated them most was Malfoy.
"Listen to what he said that day! He said, ’You will be next, Mudblood!’ And the look on his face... I think he might actually want everyone to know that he did it."
Ron said this disdainfully.
Hermione and Harry nodded.
"So, how do we get him to admit that he did it?"
"We can ask Vesey to do it. Malfoy definitely wouldn’t be on his guard around Vesey. He’d practically be a little pug licking her shoes!"
Ron’s eyes lit up as he spoke.
But Hermione and Harry both shook their heads vigorously.
"No!"
"First of all, Vesey is too innocent. If we ask her to question him, she might accidentally alert him, and Malfoy could realize that we suspect him."
"The second reason is that if Malfoy realizes what we’re trying to do, he might bully Vesey."
"Malfoy has a lot of influence in Slytherin. If he starts bullying Vesey, her life there definitely won’t be easy. We’d better not drag Vesey into this!"
Hermione said firmly.
Harry and Ron could only think of other ideas.
Unfortunately, they thought for a long time and still couldn’t come up with anything.
Ron said somewhat pessimistically, "Maybe we’ll have to wait until he makes his next move."
Hermione shook her head.
She hesitated before saying, "I have an idea, but we might have to break about fifty school rules, and it’s very dangerous. Very, very dangerous..."
Ron and Harry stared at her.
"Say it!"
"If it could work..."
Hermione hesitated for a moment before finally voicing her idea.
"My idea is that we could sneak into the Slytherin common room and ask him a few questions without letting him recognize us."
Ron and Harry laughed.
"How could we possibly do that?"
"Hermione, you’re crazy!"
Neither of them thought it was possible.
But Hermione clearly believed it could be done.
"Polyjuice Potion. As long as I brew a batch of Polyjuice Potion, we can disguise ourselves as other people and question Malfoy!
"Think about it. If he’s bragging in the common room, how could he possibly expect that the person sitting opposite him isn’t actually one of his classmates?"
Harry and Ron exchanged a look.
Could this really work?
But Hermione, who was usually extremely cautious, was unusually enthusiastic this time.
She waved her hand decisively, clearly convinced that the plan had to be carried out.
"The first thing we have to do is get the recipe for Polyjuice Potion.
"The recipe is in the Restricted Section of the library. To borrow a book from there, we only have one option: we need a professor to sign for us."
But none of them had any way to fulfill that requirement.
In the original story, Hermione could have gone to Lockhart for help. She had always admired Lockhart, and Lockhart was more than happy to give her an autograph.
But now that Hermione was completely clear-headed, she even dared to question Lockhart in class about every detail in his books and how he had supposedly accomplished those feats.
As a result, Lockhart avoided her whenever possible.
How could he possibly give her an autograph?
On the other hand, it might be much easier if Vesey asked Lockhart for his signature.
Lockhart had always suspected that Vesey liked him. After all, Vesey could answer every question he asked, and that had always been something he took pride in.
But Harry and the others didn’t want Vesey going anywhere near Lockhart.
Lockhart was a lecherous liar. They absolutely weren’t going to let Vesey fall into his trap!
But if Vesey couldn’t ask Lockhart, what else could they do?
While they were struggling to think of a solution, they suddenly heard Vesey’s voice.
In a curious tone, she asked, "What’s wrong? Why did you suddenly become so listless?"
Hermione and the others didn’t really want to tell her, afraid that she would become worried.
But when they saw Vesey’s confused expression and realized she was genuinely curious, they couldn’t hide it from her.
Hermione could only say helplessly, "We were discussing how to borrow a book from the Restricted Section. We... I—I want to find a potion to study. I really want to take a look..."
The more Hermione spoke, the more she stammered.
For some reason, she felt even guiltier lying to Vesey than she did lying to the professors.
At least she didn’t feel guilty when she lied to a professor.
