Chapter Twenty: Snape Treats Everyone Equally
Vesey looked pleadingly at Madam Pomfrey, hoping that Madam Pomfrey would look down on Snape.
Did you hear what this man just said?
She couldn’t bear to look at him.
But to her surprise, Madam Pomfrey seemed to have received some kind of signal. She immediately racked her brains and said:
"Vesey is very smart to begin with. Just look at how obediently she drank the potion earlier."
Vesey: "..."
Hehe.
Are the two of you praising me for being mentally challenged?
Vesey believed that even if the original owner of this body were here, she could tell that these two were obviously just making things up to praise her.
She sighed, pretending to look helplessly at Snape and Madam Pomfrey.
"All right. I know the Professor and Madam are just trying to comfort me. I’m not really sad, but I do get a little worried when everyone keeps complimenting me. I’m afraid that I won’t grow up to be a great beauty and will disappoint everyone!"
She lowered her head, pretending to be dejected.
Her fiery red hair fell around her face, making her look especially pitiful.
Snape’s eyes filled with distress.
This child is far too obedient. That’s even more worrying than Lily.
He couldn’t even bring himself to say a harsh word to her.
Wanting to make Vesey happy, Snape tried his best to praise her several more times.
But seeing that she still looked sad, Snape finally waved his hand and said directly:
"If you’re not good-looking, then you’re not good-looking. If you’re not smart, then you’re not smart. No matter what you are, I will still like you. I told you before that I can be your father!"
Madam Pomfrey: "???"
Why are you saying something so embarrassing?
Aren’t you afraid James will climb out of his grave and beat you to death?
But Snape wasn’t afraid at all.
He even gave her a provocative smile.
Vesey wanted to laugh too, but she held it back.
She asked in a somewhat embarrassed voice, "Professor, can you give me your blessing and let me make more friends at Hogwarts in the future?
"I swear, even though I don’t know anything, I’ll definitely be very well-behaved!"
Snape was stunned.
He had previously considered keeping Vesey by his side and finding a more suitable companion for her in the future.
He was worried about the harm Vesey might suffer because of those people.
But looking at Vesey’s eager expression now, he felt extremely ashamed.
He seemed to be making the same selfish mistake he had made before.
He had wanted Lily to have only him by her side, but in the end, he had pushed Lily farther and farther away.
He had already failed Lily once.
He could never allow her child to be treated the same way.
Besides, the diary had already helped Vesey choose some friends.
All he needed to do was follow the child’s wishes.
"All right. I hope you’ll have many, many friends in the future, and that everyone will treat you well."
He prayed sincerely.
He hoped Lily’s child would live a good life.
Oh, except Harry Potter!
Of course, Vesey had no idea what Snape was thinking.
She smiled brightly.
She didn’t want to have to report to Snape every time she made a friend in the future.
She understood that Snape was treating her as a replacement for Lily, but that didn’t mean he could interfere with the friends she chose.
If the girl she liked was frightened away because Snape kept targeting her, where would Vesey go to cry?
Snape, who knew nothing about Vesey’s little thoughts, thought she was simply excited about making friends, and his eyes softened.
He said gently, "Harry Potter will be in the last carriage. You can talk to him."
Although he really didn’t want Vesey and Harry Potter to recognize each other, Snape also knew that Vesey would be safest when she was with Harry.
Moreover, if Vesey sat with Harry Potter, she could also meet that Granger girl.
He hoped she really was as good as the diary described.
Vesey needed a friend very much.
Snape sighed softly.
"Let’s go. There’s no need to pack your things. No matter which House you’re sorted into tonight, I’ll ask Colma to send your belongings there for you."
Vesey nodded.
Then she quickly asked, "Professor, which House do you like?"
She was worried that Snape would be furious if she were sorted into Gryffindor.
But to her surprise, Snape answered without any resentment:
"It doesn’t matter which House you’re in. The professors at Hogwarts treat students from every House equally!"
Vesey opened her mouth.
I really want to ask whether you think the same thing about Harry.
After sighing inwardly, she still didn’t ask.
Vesey raised her head to say goodbye to Madam Pomfrey and waited for her to hug her.
Before Madam Pomfrey could even touch her, Vesey was pulled away by Snape.
"Don’t let her kiss and hug you all day. She works in a hospital. According to Muggles, there are a lot of bacteria on her. That’s not good for you!"
After Snape escorted Vesey to the last carriage of the train, he said this righteously.
Vesey sighed.
Snape, you really know how to do this!
True to her character, she immediately put on an expression of disapproval.
"Professor, Madam Pomfrey isn’t afraid of germs, and neither am I. I’m not a delicate person!"
Snape was stunned.
He immediately thought of Lily.
Lily had been the same.
She never looked down on anyone.
Even when he became involved with those people later, Lily had actively tried to pull him out of the mire.
But he had always refused.
He had been obsessed with Dark magic.
And because of the word "Mudblood," he and Lily had ultimately become two straight lines that could never intersect again.
"I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that."
Snape spoke softly.
Vesey patted his sleeve and comforted him.
"I know the Professor is only looking out for me. I just think we shouldn’t discriminate against any profession!"
Snape’s expression softened.
Yes. Everything this child says is right!
He was just about to praise Vesey when suddenly, a phoenix appeared beside him and dropped a wand and a letter.
Vesey recognized it immediately.
It was her wand.
