Chapter Thirty: We still need to read more books.

Vesey’s face showed the honor of being invited to Hufflepuff, but in reality, she had no intention of going to Hufflepuff at all.

Only in Gryffindor or Slytherin could she get things done.

If she stayed in Hufflepuff, she would be too far removed from the main plot. Even if she continued writing her diary, she might not be able to produce the most exciting gossip.

"Well, good luck to you, Hufflepuff kid!"

The Fat Friar said happily.

Then he looked at the other students and shouted, "I hope you’re all sorted into Hufflepuff! I really hope there are more people there. I’m from Hufflepuff too!"

With that, he left with the other ghosts.

Before they disappeared, everyone heard the Fat Friar say to the other ghosts, "We should forgive him and give him another chance. We..."

Then they vanished from the room.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Vesey looked to the side, and her eyes immediately lit up.

There was a beautiful girl with blonde hair and green eyes.

The girl was proudly looking at the group of nervous students.

Standing calmly among a crowd of panicked children was rather impressive.

Vesey immediately pretended that her legs had gone weak and leaned against the girl.

Caught off guard, the girl was pulled sideways and nearly fell.

She instinctively reached out and supported Vesey.

Vesey quickly pretended to be embarrassed.

"I’m sorry. I’m a little weak..."

The girl really wanted to throw her away.

But seeing how weak Vesey looked, she didn’t move. She merely snorted.

"If you’re scared, then don’t stand in front of everyone!"

Vesey blinked.

As if she understood what the girl meant, a smile appeared on her face.

"Thank you. I’m scared too, but everyone is scared. I just want everyone to be safer."

The girl pursed her lips.

"Whatever."

Vesey obediently nodded, pretending to be embarrassed.

She was just about to stay in the girl’s arms a little longer when she saw Harry and Ron anxiously approaching.

She sighed regretfully.

Pretending that she was feeling better, she straightened up and returned to the front with Harry and Ron.

"Aren’t you stupid? You disappeared in the blink of an eye!"

Harry scolded her angrily.

Vesey knew he was worried about her, so she blinked and reassured him.

"Brother, I just wanted to protect you!"

Whatever anger Harry had left immediately vanished.

His sister was standing at the front because she wanted to protect him.

In fact, the person she wanted to protect most was him, right?

His eyes became slightly red.

Ever since he was little, nobody had treated him this kindly.

Even though Vesey was his sister, she still wanted to protect him.

"Let me protect you next time, okay?"

Vesey obediently nodded.

But she was screaming internally.

You’ve already had enough of the spotlight! How am I supposed to show my personal charm in the diary now?

Harry, however, knew nothing about her thoughts.

He simply thought his sister was so good that he couldn’t bear to scold her harshly.

Even saying more than a sentence or two felt too harsh.

"All right, let’s move forward!"

A voice suddenly rang through the room.

It was Professor McGonagall.

"Single line. Let’s go to the Great Hall for the Sorting!"

Everyone stopped talking and formed a line, each carrying their own expectations and worries.

Vesey stood behind Harry, curiously looking at the surroundings.

Although she had seen this scene in the original story and in the movies, as a fan, how could she not want to take a closer look at Hogwarts’ famous enchanted ceiling?

"A spell has been cast here. It looks just like the sky outside. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History!"

Hermione’s voice came from behind.

Vesey then noticed that Hermione was standing directly behind her.

She was about to greet her when she heard Hermione whisper, "You really need to study more. If you’re too stupid, I won’t be friends with you!"

Vesey: "..."

As expected, Hermione really isn’t very pleasant at this age.

"But I’m stupid to begin with!"

she said, pretending to sound aggrieved.

She even rubbed her eyes, then acted as though Hermione’s words had hurt her feelings and stopped talking to her.

Hermione guiltily rubbed the toe of her shoe against the floor.

She wanted to apologize, but Harry had already moved her toward the back, preventing her from standing beside Vesey.

Hermione could only glare angrily at Harry’s back.

If looks could kill, Harry would have been hacked to pieces by now.

Fortunately, looks couldn’t kill.

They couldn’t even affect someone as oblivious as Harry.

Harry didn’t even notice Hermione glaring at him.

Of course, Professor McGonagall was partly to blame as well.

She was carrying the Sorting Hat toward the chairs at the front.

She placed the hat on a stool.

Vesey looked at it with interest, opened her mouth in exaggerated amazement, and bowed toward the entire Great Hall.

Then the Sorting Hat began to sing.

"You may think I’m not pretty enough,

But never judge a book by its cover.

If you could find a more beautiful hat,

I could eat myself in one bite."

"..."

When the Sorting Hat finished singing, the entire Great Hall erupted into applause.

The first-years, in particular, almost all breathed a sigh of relief.

"So we just have to put on this hat? I have to kill Fred. He made it sound like we were going to duel a troll!"

Ron complained angrily.

Harry laughed loudly.

The other students laughed one after another.

But when Professor McGonagall picked up the Sorting Hat, everyone became serious again.

Even Vesey felt a little nervous.

She absolutely did not want to go to Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

"I will now call the names. When your name is called, come forward, put on the hat, and sit on the stool!"

Professor McGonagall announced loudly.

"Hannah Abbott!"

Vesey watched as a rosy-cheeked girl with two ponytails nervously stumbled to the front.

She put on the Sorting Hat.

A moment later—

"Hufflepuff!"

The girl hurried over to the Hufflepuff table, where the students immediately made room for her.

With Hannah’s example, everyone now understood what they had to do.

They waited nervously for their names to be called.

One student after another was sorted.

Then Hermione’s name was called.

"Hermione Granger!"

Hermione immediately hurried forward.

After a moment, the hat shouted:

"Gryffindor!"

Hermione glanced at Vesey before walking over to the Gryffindor table.

More students were called and sorted.

Vesey remained in line, unsure whether Professor McGonagall would call her before Harry or Harry before her.

She didn’t have to wait long.

"Vesey Potter!"
