Chapter 96 — Resurrecting Lily?
Dumbledore’s office.
A storm was brewing here, and Dumbledore stood at its center.
His face was ashen as he read the final description in the diary.
He had never imagined that Harry would become like this.
Dumbledore knew Harry’s potential better than anyone.
Although Harry wasn’t particularly outstanding in many other areas, his talent for the Dark Arts was no less than Voldemort’s.
How could there be such a huge difference between two people who possessed twin wands?
If Harry began killing people without restraint, Dumbledore couldn’t even imagine what the wizarding world would become.
But how had things come to this?
Just because Vesey died?
For the first time, Dumbledore felt afraid.
If Vesey’s death had truly caused all of this, then he would once again become a sinner in the wizarding world.
Just as Dumbledore was consumed by anguish, the song of a phoenix rang out.
It slowly calmed him.
The magical storm caused by his emotional outburst gradually subsided.
Dumbledore rubbed his forehead and sank into his chair.
When he noticed the portraits in the office hiding from him, he simply leaned back.
"Fawkes, tell me... did I do something wrong?"
For a moment, Dumbledore seemed much older.
The Savior he had raised becoming a murderer was more painful to him than almost anything else.
"If Vesey were still here, she could definitely keep Harry under control..."
Dumbledore murmured.
Harry had love, while Voldemort had none.
That was why Dumbledore had always been so confident in Harry.
But in that future, he had stripped Harry of the very thing that could have kept him from falling.
And it wasn’t enough to say that the Death Eaters were responsible.
When Vesey was alive, nothing had happened to the Dursleys.
Girls were often more attentive to these things than boys.
Harry must have simply forgotten to arrange protective spells for the Dursleys.
Or perhaps, because the Dursleys had treated Harry so badly in the past, he had been unwilling to return to them.
That had ultimately led to such a terrible consequence.
As for Ron, his death was probably an accident.
And then that accident became the final straw that broke Harry.
Dumbledore covered his forehead.
He knew that if Vesey were still alive, Harry would certainly have avenged Ron.
But he wouldn’t have completely fallen.
Using Dark magic must have gradually corrupted Harry’s character.
Once he started using it, he would probably rely on it more and more.
And eventually, he might end up walking the same path as Voldemort.
Having figured everything out, Dumbledore almost lost control of his magic again.
Fortunately, Fawkes calmed him down.
Dumbledore finally regained complete control of himself.
Then he suddenly noticed the message box beside the diary.
The moment he saw it, Dumbledore immediately understood how useful this new function was.
After reading each diary entry, the holders could ask the mysterious being a question.
Of course, whether that mysterious existence was willing to answer was another matter.
Dumbledore certainly wasn’t going to waste such an opportunity.
He immediately picked up his quill and wrote:
"Excuse me..."
He stopped.
The anger and regret that had overwhelmed him moments ago had given way to reason.
He stared at the message box, thinking carefully.
After a while, he finally wrote down his question.
At the same time—
Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom
Voldemort, who was accompanying Quirrell while he supervised the exam, nearly laughed aloud.
Retribution!
Dumbledore had tried to scheme against him and destroy him, yet he had never expected that the Savior he raised would eventually become corrupted.
If Harry started killing people, could he really come back from that?
Think about it.
Harry Potter was clearly going to hunt down the families that had secretly harmed the Potter family’s daughter.
And what would await him afterward?
Azkaban?
Or death at the hands of Aurors or someone else?
The Savior becoming a murderer.
That would certainly become explosive news, wouldn’t it?
Voldemort almost laughed aloud.
If he hadn’t been unwilling to attract Dumbledore’s attention, he would have controlled Quirrell and run outside just to laugh.
Fortunately, he managed to restrain himself.
Then he quickly noticed the message box beside the diary.
He could ask questions?
Excellent!
He had wanted to ask this mysterious being a question for a long time.
Transfiguration Classroom
Professor McGonagall was supervising the examination.
She hesitated for a moment before picking up her quill and writing down the question she most wanted answered.
Nicolas Flamel’s Estate
Nicolas Flamel also quickly wrote down the question that had been troubling him, hoping the mysterious being would answer.
The Burrow
Mrs. Weasley’s eyes were red as she hurriedly wrote down her question with her quill.
Potions Classroom
Snape, who was supervising the exam, revealed a faint smile.
Then he quickly wrote down a question.
His eyes were filled with anticipation.
History of Magic Examination Room
Hermione wrote down her question, her face slightly flushed.
Cassandra also wrote down hers.
She quietly glanced at Vesey, who was still working on her exam paper.
There was a hint of hesitation in Cassandra’s eyes.
Once all the questions had been submitted, they appeared before Vesey as well.
Vesey looked at Dumbledore’s question first.
«Excuse me, how many people can see the diary?»
Tsk.
She knew Dumbledore would ask that.
There were currently eight diary holders.
Should she tell him?
Vesey immediately came up with an idea.
Don’t tell him.
Dumbledore would only start thinking too much.
Instead, give him a number and let him figure out the rest himself.
"Six."
Vesey wrote the answer.
The system had only required her to choose whether to answer.
It had never required her to tell the truth.
As far as Dumbledore knew, the diary holders were probably Snape, Professor McGonagall, Nicolas Flamel, and himself.
He might also have guessed Hermione.
That left one more.
Let Dumbledore think about it.
It would give him something else to do instead of constantly focusing on Vesey.
Vesey then looked at Voldemort’s question.
«How did I die?»
She stared at it.
That question was extremely direct.
Vesey simply ignored it.
Someone like Voldemort didn’t even show her the slightest respect. Why should she help him resolve his doubts?
Of course, even if he had been more polite, Vesey still wouldn’t have answered.
The most important thing was to keep this information hidden from him.
Voldemort was simply too unpredictable.
Next, Vesey looked at Snape’s question.
«Excuse me, can you resurrect Lily?»
Vesey was speechless.
This man really was hopeless.
Had he even considered how much it would cost to resurrect someone?
And if Lily came back to life, would James be resurrected too?
Then where would Snape sleep?
Between the two of them?
Vesey sighed.
Still, she didn’t completely ignore the question.
She wrote:
«She doesn’t want to come back, and she doesn’t want to see you.»
Cruel.
Clear.
That should be enough to completely extinguish Snape’s hopes.
Stop dreaming about it every day.
How could someone so old still be clinging to such fantasies?
Vesey sighed again.
Then she looked at Professor McGonagall’s question.
«Hello. I want to know whether Harry will really become a murderer in the future.»
A good question.
Vesey actually wanted everyone to understand this point.
Professor McGonagall was one of the people who truly thought carefully about what she read in the diary.
This was exactly the kind of question that needed an answer.
Vesey quickly wrote:
«Time flows simultaneously. There are countless parallel worlds, and every choice may lead to a different outcome.»
