Chapter 242: A Revelation of True Feelings
Chapter 242: Chapter 242: A Revelation of True Feelings
Britney raised her hand to smooth her hair, her gaze tender yet firm.
"Actually, it’s because of fan letters... Over the past year, I’ve received several letters from ALS patients, including one from that boy just now. In his letter, he shared his daily life with me, saying that listening to my songs helps him temporarily forget his pain and expressing his hope that more people would pay attention to their community."
She paused, her voice filled with emotion. "I never had the chance to meet them before, but this time I happened to learn about the charity event initiated by Irene and realized he was being treated at this very hospital, so I immediately decided to come.
Seeing him with my own eyes made me realize how much they need attention. They clearly love life so much, yet their steps are hindered by illness."
Another reporter from the entertainment media followed up immediately: "You mentioned just now that you’ve received many letters from ALS patients. Among those letters, was there anything that left a particularly deep impression on you?"
Britney’s eyes reddened once more. "One patient wrote that her happiest moment every day is doing rehabilitation training while listening to my songs. Even if she can only lift her hand one more time, she feels there is hope.
And that boy just now told me his greatest wish is to be able to pick up a pen and write me another letter himself. These words touched me deeply. I feel that as an artist, I should do something rather than just stand on a stage."
"Director Coppola," a reporter turned toward Irene, "the core of this charity event is to raise funds and rehabilitation equipment for young ALS patients. Can you tell us about the specific assistance plan? What subsequent actions will there be?"
Irene stepped aside slightly so the camera could also capture the patients and children nearby, her tone sincere.
"We have been preparing for this event for two months. First, we will donate a batch of urgently needed rehabilitation equipment to this hospital, while also covering a portion of the treatment costs for ten families in financial difficulty.
Following this, we will collaborate with more medical institutions and charity organizations to establish assistance archives for ALS patients. On one hand, we will continue to raise funds, and on the other, we will coordinate medical resources to find more suitable treatment plans for them."
She paused and added, "We will also launch a ’Charity Sharing Plan,’ inviting patients to share their own stories so more people can understand ALS.
Many people are unfamiliar with this disease or even have misunderstandings about it. We hope to eliminate prejudice and transmit hope through real stories."
"Will Ms. Britney participate in similar charity events in the future? Will you continue to follow these patients’ situations?" another reporter asked.
Britney nodded immediately, her tone certain. "Of course! I’ve already made an agreement with the hospital to visit them often, especially that sixteen-year-old fan. I will help him realize his wish and keep a constant eye on his recovery.
Additionally, I will call upon more of my artist friends to join in, using our influence to do more practical things for these children."
The reporters nodded one after another, their cameras constantly focused on Britney’s moved expression and the heartwarming scenes of patients interacting on the lawn.
"So you noticed this group because of fan letters. That is truly thoughtful!"
"An idol like this is truly worthy of their fans’ love!"
"Britney is truly the most outstanding young idol of our time!"
The reporters’ praise rose and fell in succession, and the atmosphere on-site was both enthusiastic and full of warmth.
Taking advantage of the gap while the reporters surrounded Britney for interviews, Irene quietly pulled Shelly aside and asked in a low voice, "Where did you find the actor? That sixteen-year-old fan just now acted so realistically that even Britney was moved."
Shelly was stunned for a moment, then smiled and shook his head. "He’s not an actor. He’s a real kid. When organizing patient data earlier, we found his bedside covered in posters of Britney and that he had kept letters written to her. We tried telling him about this event, and he was incredibly happy, saying that being able to see Britney was better than anything else."
Irene was somewhat surprised, and a wave of warmth immediately surged through her heart. "So that’s how it is. No wonder Britney showed such true feelings. This is for the best. Real stories are the most powerful."
As the two were speaking, they saw Britney break away from the reporters’ circle and walk over to the sixteen-year-old boy, squatting down to talk softly with him.
The boy had a shy smile on his face, his eyes sparkling with excitement. Although his body was inconvenienced, he struggled to raise his hand, wanting to give Britney a high-five. Britney immediately reached out, gently touching his hand, and tenderly patted his head.
This scene was perfectly captured on film.
Not far away, Lin was sitting on a lawn bench holding a Barbie doll, quietly watching the scene. Irene walked over, sat down beside her, and said softly, "Lin, I will come to see you often from now on. I’ve already discussed your treatment costs with the director. I will cover them all in the future. We’ll wait for a suitable heart donor together, alright?"
Lin turned to look at Irene, her eyes instantly filling with tears as she nodded heavily. "Thank you, sister! How can I ever repay you!"
Irene looked into her eyes and said, "Growing up healthy, studying hard, and becoming a person useful to society is the greatest repayment you can give me."
Before the event officially ended, Irene found Shelly and gave clear instructions: "Have all the materials from today’s charity event been organized? Find a few reporters we’re familiar with who have a reliable reputation and spread the coverage as widely as possible.
Focus on Britney’s thoughtfulness toward her fans, the real stories of the patients, and our assistance plan. Be sure to guide the public discourse toward a positive direction, raising awareness for the ALS community and building goodwill for our subsequent actions."
Shelly smiled. "Irene, you really don’t trust me enough. Controlling public opinion and magnifying positive effects is a mandatory skill for us agents. I’m more practiced at it than coordinating an artist’s schedule."
"I’ve already had the team filter the high-definition photos and videos from the scene and sent them to familiar reporters at the Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and several mainstream entertainment websites.
They’re all very willing to run special features. Furthermore, I specifically instructed them to include more heartwarming clips of the artists interacting with patients and mention less about commercial content to ensure the direction of public opinion is absolutely positive."
"That’s good. With you keeping an eye on it, I’m relieved." Irene let out a sigh of relief.
By the time Irene returned to the studio, the sky outside had already turned dark. She rubbed the space between her brows, suppressing Lin’s story in her heart for the moment, and immediately dialed Chen Shiyu’s number.
The screen lit up, revealing Chen Shiyu’s somewhat exhausted face. In the background, the lights of the New York studio were still on, and several technicians were still busy at their computers.
"Boss, I’ve seen the footage of the charity event. The results far exceeded expectations! Britney’s genuine display of emotion and the patients’ stories were incredibly moving. Although I don’t know the specifics of your next plan, if it starts with this charity work, the results should be quite good," he said, being the first to share the good news.
