Chapter 355: Future Plans
Chapter 355: Chapter 355: Future Plans
On the day before Irene Coppola’s 22nd birthday, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End finally officially wrapped filming.
Inside the Disney studio, red, gold, and blue fireworks burst across the ink-black sky, reflecting the smiles on everyone’s faces.
The scene was filled with jubilation. Long tables were set up in the corner that had previously been piled high with props, now covered with exquisite desserts, champagne, and barbecue. The staff shed their exhaustion from the past few days, gathering in twos and threes to cheer and embrace, celebrating this hard-won moment.
Jerry Bruckheimer, as producer, stood in the center of the crowd, holding a champagne glass with a gratified smile on his face. He had witnessed the entire process of this film from start to finish and had also personally seen Irene Coppola’s growth and transformation as the head director.
"Cheers to At World’s End!" Jerry shouted, downing the champagne in his glass in one gulp.
"Cheers!" A synchronized cheer erupted at the scene. The crisp sound of clinking champagne glasses intertwined with the roaring of fireworks, weaving into a movement of revelry that belonged to the filmmakers.
Irene stood in the back, watching the crowd and listening to the laughter around her, her mind a complete blank.
She was happy too, but mostly, she was just completely exhausted.
During this last month, from the actors’ action choreography to the detailed polishing of the special effects team, every single step had consumed a tremendous amount of her effort.
Now, when the words "wrap up" were finally spoken, her nerves, which had been tight for a month, suddenly relaxed, leaving only a sense of emptiness and satisfaction after extreme fatigue.
"It’s finally over," Irene murmured, a smile unconsciously tugging at the corners of her lips.
She wasn’t afraid to boast. Having finished filming At World’s End, she felt that no future film would be able to stump her.
The difficulty of filming this movie had far exceeded her imagination: the construction of the giant water tank, the special effects simulation of rainstorms and waves, the coordination of hundreds of extras, and the emotional control of the actors in harsh environments. Every challenge had kept her up at night, but she had overcome them one by one.
Looking back now, those problems that had once given her such headaches had all turned into the most valuable assets of her career.
But at this moment, she could suddenly understand why Gore Verbinski, the director of the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies in her previous life, did not continue to direct the sequels after filming At World’s End.
She didn’t have the courage to go through such an experience again. Fortunately, Paramount had signaled for her to take a good break before preparing for Transformers. Otherwise, if she had to do another special effects blockbuster in such a short time, she would probably have quit.
"Congratulations, Irene," a gentle male voice sounded from behind her.
Irene turned around and saw Henry Cavill walking over with two glasses of champagne.
He was wearing a clean white shirt with the sleeves rolled up casually, revealing his sturdy forearms. The pirate attire he usually wore while playing Will Turner had long been changed, and he had returned to his own gentle and refined appearance.
His eyes were bright and gentle, carrying undisguised appreciation and a smile as he handed her one of the champagne glasses. "To this great film, and to you, the best director."
Irene took the champagne and clinked it lightly against his. "Thank you, and congratulations to you too. You’ve worked hard during this time."
Henry looked at her, his gaze lingering on her face for a long time before he slowly spoke. "You are the one who worked the hardest. We still had time to rest, unlike you, who arrived at the set earliest and left last every day, even eating while watching footage." His tone was filled with concern.
Irene smiled, unconcerned. "This is my job, and being able to work with such a great team and such excellent actors makes all the hard work worth it." She turned to look at the staff reveling in the distance. "You’re the same, Henry. The character of Will Turner was portrayed brilliantly by you. Your eyes have become very expressive. I believe you can go even further."
Being praised by her, Henry’s eyes became even gentler. "That’s all thanks to you. If you hadn’t patiently guided me on how to grasp the emotions and how to show Will’s delicacy during the fight scenes, I might not have been able to present such an effect at all." He looked at her, hesitated for a moment, and couldn’t help but ask, "After filming this movie, what are you planning to do next? Are you going to dive into the next project immediately, or..."
"I am planning to take a good break, but the post-production editing work can’t be completely put aside, so I can’t go too far away." Irene gently swirled the champagne glass in her hand, a hint of anticipation in her tone. "I might go to a hot spring resort in Malibu to soak in the hot springs and completely relax my body and mind, or attend a few concerts. Speaking of which, I’ve been very interested in medieval clothing and jewelry lately. Because filming was too busy before, I missed several good private auctions. I can’t miss the ones next month."
Come to think of it, she was now worth hundreds of millions, but she really hadn’t enjoyed life properly yet. Perhaps it was because the mindset from her previous life dominated her values. She really couldn’t adapt to those overly extravagant lifestyles. At the very least, throwing parties was not her hobby.
Henry listened attentively, his eyes full of yearning. "That sounds very nice. You really do need a good rest. You’ve been really too tired during this time."
He paused, then changed the subject, his tone carrying a hint of imperceptible probing. "Then... what about after the rest? Are you preparing to start filming Transformers, or continuing to push forward with Saw 2, or is there some other project?"
Irene nodded. "The preparatory work for Transformers is actually already underway. Paramount has set it for the 2006 summer slot, and it will officially enter production by the second half of next year at the latest. The script for Saw 2 is still being polished. James Wan and Leigh Whannell are doing a great job, so I’m very reassured."
She looked at Henry with curiosity. "It’s time to talk about you, Henry. After playing Will Turner, you don’t need to worry about your popularity anymore. What are your plans for the future? Surely many studios have thrown olive branches your way, right?"
Mentioning his future plans, Henry’s eyes became steady.
He lowered his head slightly, pondered for a moment, and then slowly spoke. "Indeed, quite a few crews have approached me, including action movies, romance movies, and some fantasy-themed films. But I don’t want to rush into taking roles for now. I want to settle down and reflect."
He raised his head, looked at Irene, and said earnestly, "During this time, I’ve worked with Hollywood veterans like Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, and Bill Nighy, and I’ve been quite inspired. Geoffrey’s understanding and performance of characters, and Depp’s explosive power in front of the camera, have all made me realize that I still have a lot to learn. The character of Will Turner has brought me a lot, but it has also caused me some confusion. I’m worried that I will be typecast by this role and will only be able to get similar pirate or hero roles in the future."
Irene nodded, indicating her understanding.
In Hollywood, many actors get typecast because of a classic role and find it hard to make a breakthrough again. Henry’s worries were not without reason.
