Chapter 2612: Story 2613: Blood of the King
Kael stood before the ancient king, unable to move.
The creature’s enormous hand remained extended.
“Come to me, son.”
Kael tightened his grip on his sword.
“I am not your son.”
The king’s eyes burned brighter.
“Your blood says otherwise.”
A sudden pain ripped through Kael’s chest.
He dropped to one knee.
Visions exploded inside his mind.
He saw the underground kingdom before it became a tomb. Great towers stood beneath the mountains, illuminated by red fire. Humans and infected lived together under the rule of a powerful king.
Then came the experiments.
Scientists entered the kingdom.
Among them was Marcus Veyr.
Kael saw himself as a child, standing beside another boy.
Elias.
And Lena.
The three children were separated from their families and taken into the laboratory.
Veyr injected Kael with the blood of the ancient king.
Kael screamed.
Then the memory changed.
The king stood outside the laboratory, fighting hundreds of soldiers.
He was wounded.
Veyr had betrayed him.
Kael opened his eyes.
He was back in the chamber.
Lena was kneeling beside him.
“Kael!”
He looked at her.
“You remember?”
She nodded.
“Some of it.”
Veyr suddenly stepped forward.
“You were never meant to remember.”
Kael rose slowly.
“You lied to us.”
Veyr smiled.
“I protected humanity.”
“You destroyed it.”
Veyr’s expression hardened.
“Humanity was already doomed.”
He raised his hand.
The red veins across his body brightened.
The undead army began moving.
Thousands of creatures charged toward Kael and his companions.
“Get behind me!” Kael shouted.
Mara fired.
Ethan opened fire beside her.
The Warden lifted its enormous blade and struck the ground.
A shockwave threw dozens of infected backward.
Kael charged into the horde.
His sword flashed.
His shield smashed through skulls.
But there were too many.
The ancient king suddenly roared.
Every infected stopped.
Kael looked toward him.
The king pointed at Veyr.
“Traitor.”
Veyr’s smile disappeared.
“You should have remained asleep.”
The king moved with terrifying speed.
Veyr barely escaped the first strike.
The two collided with enough force to crack the stone floor.
Kael watched in disbelief.
The ancient king fought like a warrior, not a monster.
Veyr struck him with a blast of red energy.
The king staggered.
Kael instinctively raised his sword.
A strange red glow appeared along the blade.
Adrian stared.
“Kael...”
Kael looked at the weapon.
“What?”
“Your sword.”
The blade was glowing brighter.
“The Origin blood is reacting to it.”
Kael felt power rushing through his arm.
The ancient king looked at him.
“Now you remember.”
Kael charged.
He struck Veyr across the chest.
The scientist flew backward and crashed into a stone pillar.
Veyr stared at Kael in shock.
“You can’t control that power!”
Kael raised his glowing sword.
“I don’t need to control it.”
He stepped forward.
“I only need to use it against you.”
Veyr suddenly smiled.
“You still don’t understand.”
He pressed his hand against the floor.
A massive seal appeared beneath everyone.
Adrian’s face turned white.
“No...”
Mara looked at him.
“What?”
Adrian whispered,
“The seal isn’t opening the Origin.”
He looked at Veyr.
“It’s releasing something deeper.”
The ground split apart.
A roar rose from beneath the ancient kingdom.
Even the Sleeping King stepped backward.
Veyr laughed.
“Meet the true beginning of the dead.”
And from the darkness below, something enormous began climbing toward them.
