Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition
Chapter 2803: Story 2804: The Giant Beneath the Streets
The asphalt shattered beneath the enormous creature.
Ryan Malik stared through the windshield as a monstrous figure dragged itself from the underground darkness. Its shoulders rose above the surrounding buildings, and thick chains hung from its scarred body. Golden light burned inside its hollow eyes.
Every zombie in the street bowed before it.
“Ryan,” Zara whispered, “drive. Whatever that thing is, we cannot fight it.”
Ryan pressed the accelerator, but the engine had stalled. He turned the key desperately. Nothing happened.
The giant lifted its head.
Its gaze locked onto Ryan.
A terrible roar shook the street, bursting windows and setting off car alarms. The little girl standing before them laughed softly.
“He remembers you,” she said.
Ryan grabbed Zara’s arm. “Get out!”
They escaped through the passenger door just as the giant’s fist smashed the vehicle flat. Metal twisted beneath its enormous fingers. Ryan and Zara sprinted toward a narrow alley while debris rained around them.
Behind them, the creature spoke.
“MY SON.”
Ryan stumbled.
Zara pulled him forward. “Don’t listen to it!”
They reached a ruined building and climbed a staircase toward the second floor. From a broken window, Ryan watched the giant kneel in the middle of the road. Its enormous hands pressed against the ground, and the surrounding zombies began moving in perfect unison.
They were no longer wandering aimlessly.
They were organizing.
A military helicopter appeared above the rooftops. Its searchlight swept across the giant before a loudspeaker announced, “Target confirmed. All units prepare for termination.”
Missiles streaked through the smoke.
The explosions swallowed the creature in fire and dust. For a moment, Ryan believed it had been destroyed.
Then a golden beam erupted from the smoke, cutting the helicopter in half.
The aircraft crashed into a distant building.
Zara stepped away from the window. “The army cannot stop it.”
Ryan’s radio crackled.
“Ryan, report your position!” Captain Hamza shouted.
“Near the old railway district. What is that thing?”
“Listen carefully. The creature is designated Titan One. It was created during experiments at the underground facility.”
“Created? You mean someone built that monster?”
“Not exactly,” Hamza replied. “The scientists discovered something beneath the facility. They tried to control it. Instead, they gave it a body.”
Ryan remembered the giant’s words.
My son.
“Why did it call me that?”
The radio fell silent.
Then Hamza spoke quietly. “Because your father was involved in the original project.”
Ryan’s world seemed to stop.
“My father died fifteen years ago.”
“His death was fabricated. He disappeared inside the facility, and your family was relocated under government protection.”
Before Ryan could respond, another voice entered the transmission.
“Captain, stop lying to him.”
It was Dr. Meher Siddiqui.
“Ryan, your father wasn’t the creature’s creator. He was its first successful prisoner.”
A deafening crash shook the building.
Across the street, the little girl appeared again, standing beneath the ruined helicopter’s burning wreckage.
She raised her face toward Ryan’s window.
“Your father is waiting below.”
Then she pointed toward the ground.
Beneath Ryan’s feet, something began scratching at the concrete.
Three slow knocks followed.
And a familiar voice whispered from beneath the floor.
“Ryan, my son. Please help me.”
