Chapter 2807 Story 2808: The Mother Behind the Wall

The gigantic eye stared through the widening crack, its golden pupil narrowing as it focused on Ryan Malik.

Every light in the laboratory exploded.

Zara dragged herself away from the broken console, clutching her injured shoulder. “Ryan! Get away from that thing!”

Adam did not move. Instead, he bowed his head toward the opening.

“Mother,” he whispered. “I have brought him home.”

The eye blinked.

A sound like a thousand people breathing filled the chamber. The walls trembled, and thick golden veins spread across the concrete, branching toward Ryan’s feet.

He stumbled backward.

“Adam, what is that?”

His brother finally looked at him. “The reason we were born.”

Something slammed against the other side of the wall. Concrete shattered, revealing a vast chamber beyond. Suspended inside it was a colossal mass of black flesh, cables, and human faces. Their mouths opened and closed silently beneath its surface.

Ryan recognized one face immediately.

His mother.

She looked exactly as he remembered her from childhood, except her eyes glowed gold and dark veins covered her cheeks.

“Ryan,” she whispered.

His heart stopped.

“No,” he breathed. “My mother died when I was young.”

Adam shook his head. “That is what they told you.”

The woman pressed a hand against the transparent barrier surrounding the creature.

“Please, Ryan. You must remember me.”

Images flooded his mind: his mother singing beside his bed, holding him during thunderstorms, and kissing his forehead before disappearing behind a hospital door. He remembered crying for her while his father carried him away.

Then another memory surfaced.

His mother screaming inside a laboratory as scientists locked her behind glass.

Ryan fell to his knees.

“What have they done to you?”

Her expression twisted with pain.

“They made me the vessel. Your father tried to stop them, but the experiment had already begun. They separated my consciousness from my body, and something ancient entered the space they created.”

The creature shifted. Hundreds of faces emerged from its surface, all whispering Ryan’s name.

Captain Hamza’s voice crackled through the radio.

“Ryan, evacuate immediately! The lower containment system is collapsing!”

Ryan grabbed the radio. “You knew my mother was here!”

“I knew something remained inside the chamber,” Hamza replied. “We were ordered to keep it sealed.”

“By whom?”

Before Hamza could answer, Adam seized Ryan’s arm.

“Stop listening to them! They stole our family and turned us into weapons.”

Ryan pulled free. “Then help me save her.”

Adam’s golden veins brightened.

“I cannot save Mother,” he said. “But you can free her.”

The enormous creature struck the barrier. A fracture raced across the glass.

Meher’s voice suddenly broke through the radio.

“Ryan, whatever you do, do not let that barrier break! Your mother is not controlling Subject Zero.”

Ryan stared at the imprisoned woman.

“Then who is?”

Meher whispered, “The thing wearing her face.”

The barrier shattered.

A thousand voices screamed together.

And the creature reached for Ryan.
