How Did I Become an F1 Driver?

Chapter 1515: You Reap What You Sow_2

Then, as Qin Miao entered the sage state, less than two seconds passed before Frankie’s voice abruptly cut into Qin Miao’s team radio after Qin Miao crossed the finish line: “P1! Qin Miao, we are P1! Aaaaaah! You are the damn race winner; we crossed the line 4.992 seconds slower than Verstappen, but he has a five-second penalty! We are the champions! We are the fucking champions!”

Upon hearing Frankie’s ecstatic cries, Qin Miao was stunned, and then his whole spirit was lifted.

Holy shit, I won!

Upon realizing this, Qin Miao, without caring about any sense of relief or letting go, who had originally thought he had no chance of winning today’s race, couldn’t help but cheer in the team radio upon receiving such good news.

“Let’s fucking gooo!!!!”.

“Hahaha, woohoo! This is truly a huge surprise. Thank you, everyone; you gave me a powerful car.”

“Awesome!”

“Qin Miao, you’re fucking amazing, you’re the best!”

“Hahaha! Without your help, I am nothing; this victory belongs to all of us. Thank you!”

…

However, while some are joyful, others are sorrowful.

While Qin Miao and the Mercedes team were ecstatic from the sudden surprise, the Red Bull team, on the other hand, was somewhat gloomy.

One side experienced a loss turning into a win, while the other experienced a win turning into a loss.

The emotions of the staff from the two teams were entirely opposite at the moment. All the Red Bull team members were silent, while Horner was staring grimly at the broadcast screen in front of him.

Marco rubbed his forehead and began to shake his head regretfully.

Meanwhile, Verstappen, on the track, knowing he missed the race victory today, slammed his fists twice on his car’s monocoque shell out of sight of the broadcast cameras.

“How much did Verstappen’s lap time drop in the last lap?” Horner asked Verstappen’s track engineer beside him on the Red Bull command podium.

The engineer, hearing Horner’s question, rubbed his temple and said, “Verstappen didn’t slow down this lap; his lap time was consistently stable.”

Upon saying this, he guessed what Horner wanted to ask, so he proactively explained: “It wasn’t Verstappen’s fault. I just looked at Qin Miao’s lap time chart; he managed to beat Verstappen in the last lap because his final lap was 0.7 seconds faster than his normal lap speed. Why did Qin Miao’s hard tires, after 39 laps, still have such strong grip?” Verstappen’s track engineer helplessly scratched his head.

“We underestimated them.” Hearing this, Horner crossed his arms and looked helplessly at Marco beside him.

The old man sighed: “Next time, let Verstappen be steadier when racing, the collision with Qin Miao at the start of the race was really unnecessary. As for Perez…”

Horner picked up from the old man’s words and said: “Perez’s performance this Grand Prix weekend can only be described as striking more balances than flaws; starting from such a position and finishing fourth, we can’t ask for more…”

Marco wanted to speak further but ultimately stayed silent.

On the field, after the race, when Qin Miao ran back the lap, the spectators in Spain generously applauded Qin Miao.

After all, although Qin Miao will take Sainz’s spot at Ferrari next season, not all Spanish fans are fans of Sainz. There are also supporters of Alonso and neutral fans.

Indeed, these two groups constitute the majority of Spanish fans.

Moreover, Qin Miao’s performance in today’s race was indeed remarkable, so everything happened naturally.

During the warm-up lap, Qin Miao didn’t forget to deliberately compress the rubber on the road to add weight to his car.

Having a hard-won win this season, Qin Miao certainly didn’t want his victory to be nullified due to inadequate car weight.

Back in the pit area, under the guidance of the on-site FIA staff, Qin Miao parked his car directly under the podium designated for the champion driver.

After parking his car, Qin Miao saw the Mercedes team personnel eagerly awaiting him behind the guard rail.

Behind them, a large crowd was holding up phones or cameras.

After getting out of the car, an incredibly excited Qin Miao hadn’t even reattached the steering wheel to his car. He celebrated briefly in the car and then ran a few steps before executing a high jump, throwing himself into the Mercedes team’s crowd.

Everyone was accustomed to Qin Miao’s unique celebration style, and Frankie and Toto skillfully caught Qin Miao as he threw himself to them.

Once Qin Miao had thrown himself into the crowd, everyone began to celebrate joyously together.

Meanwhile, behind Qin Miao’s car, Hamilton and Verstappen almost simultaneously got out of their cars.

Looking up, they saw Qin Miao leaping into the crowd.

Seeing this, Verstappen felt more envy, because the person celebrating that way should have been him.

But Hamilton felt something entirely different.

Youth is wonderful; after a weekend of Grand Prix racing, any regular person is dead tired, nearly lying in the car not wanting to get out.

But here Qin Miao was, finishing a Grand Prix, and still energetic enough to fling himself into a crowd.

What else could the old man say? Young people have vigor, I suppose…

After a brief celebration, Qin Miao started gathering his belongings, reinstalling the steering wheel, weighing in, removing his helmet, wiping sweat, and tidying up his appearance before heading off for the interview.

Today, the interviewer was still David Coulthard.

An old acquaintance.

After Qin Miao stood in place, his interviewer, somewhat disbelieving, said, “Qin Miao, congratulations on winning the Spanish Grand Prix. What a thrilling race. 0.008 seconds, eight-thousandths of a second; what a magical number. You managed to defeat Verstappen at the last moment. It all must not have been easy for you, right?”

“Of course, Verstappen is a formidable opponent. No matter who faces him, one must give their all, and often, even giving your all is not enough to beat him on the track. He is like a ruthless driving machine.” Qin Miao initially praised Verstappen and then added, “My win wasn’t merely due to some trivial strategies; it was mostly luck.”

While Qin Miao’s interview seemed full of humility, showing the mild, humble nature of an Eastern nation’s citizen.

If you ponder carefully, something feels off.

Clearly, after beating Verstappen, Qin Miao praised Verstappen tremendously; in doing so, wasn’t he indirectly praising himself?

If Verstappen is that formidable, then overcoming him makes oneself even more formidable, doesn’t it?

Lastly, a touch of humility further amplifies one’s own grace.

Honestly, as time progresses, Qin Miao certainly seems increasingly like a refined old-timer in the racing circles.

After a couple more questions, today’s post-race interview with Qin Miao concluded.

The post-race podium ceremony won’t be elaborated upon; it’s already become second nature to Qin Miao, almost routine, as he’s accustomed to stepping on the podium nearly every season.

Simply put, the entire process for Qin Miao involved flourishing applause, everyone watching and congratulating him on his race performance today.

In his first two F1 seasons, Qin Miao would have felt emotional about this process; now, entering his third year, repeatedly going through these experiences, he can maintain relative composure.

Perhaps this is why many say men are creatures drawn to novelty and rejecting the old.
