How to Bring Common Sense to Xianxia World

Chapter 346: A Talk Between Husband and Wives.

Mo Xingyao looked back and forth between the two phones in her hands, comparing them and noticing how nearly identical their designs were. Even though the U-Phone from their world could project a small spirit screen, its overall design was still more than 95% identical to that of the smartphone from the other side.

"Husband..." She looked at Wei Chen, her eyes filled with curiosity. "Have you perhaps lived in that world before? The world behind the portal, where everyone is a mortal?"

Wei Chen didn’t answer immediately. He looked at Mo Xingyao, weighing in his heart how much he should tell her.

He knew that the Underworld didn’t have a policy of keeping the nature of one’s work secret from one’s family.

And judging from his boss’s reaction to the employees in his division, most of those people were either dead warriors or dead warriors from the Murong Clan. Yet they still walked around his fortress as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world, as though reincarnation and resurrection were insignificant matters not even worth mentioning.

Shouldn’t this kind of thing be a secret protected by the Lord of the Underworld? Weren’t the resurrected dead considered taboo?

Mo Xingyao noticed her husband’s expression beginning to frown, so she smiled.

"It’s okay, Husband. If it’s a secret or something you don’t wish to share, I understand."

Wei Chen waved his hand in denial.

"No, no, no! It’s not like that. I’m just thinking about how to explain it without making things weird or too complicated."

Wei Chen thought for a moment before deciding to tell her about seventy percent of the truth, just to be safe. After all, he wasn’t sure how much he could reveal about himself without facing any consequences.

"You could say that I lived there for some time. About a decade or two. That’s why I learned a lot and gained plenty of inspiration from that world." Wei Chen began, then continued.

"After that, I came under the service of the Underworld Lord, learned many things from him, and started working for him. My cultivation and the techniques I use also came from him. You could say that he’s my master."

"I see..." Mo Xingyao nodded in understanding. "That explains a lot of things. When I first met you, you gave off an air that was different from that of other cultivators."

"How so?" Wei Chen asked, now curious.

"Other cultivators all have this haughty air about them. They look at mortals as if they’re a different species. But you..."

She looked at her husband’s face, which showed neither haughtiness nor disdain toward mortals.

"You’re different. You don’t have any air of superiority at all. Well... except when you play UNO with us and have the upper hand, of course."

Mo Xingyao giggled, and Dream Butterfly couldn’t help chuckling along with her good sister.

"If you spent so much time living among mortals, that would explain why you have such a different outlook."

She paused, then asked with a mischievous smile, "So... the young master of the Underworld Palace, why have you graced us, mere lower-realm cultivators, with your presence?"

Mo Xingyao adopted the tone of someone addressing a member of a higher hierarchy, clearly enjoying herself.

"Heh... Stop doing that, alright?"

Wei Chen lightly poked Mo Xingyao’s nose, making her pout and glare at her husband in protest.

"I might be valuable to my boss, the Underworld Lord, but I wouldn’t dare call myself a young master."

Wei Chen decided to come clean about his actual status in the Underworld Palace.

"Huh? Why? The Underworld Lord didn’t seem to have any problem when my father and other people addressed you as the young master of the Underworld Palace," she asked.

"Haha, I think he was just humoring me and didn’t want to embarrass me in front of everyone. Have you ever heard me confirm that I’m the young master of the Underworld Palace myself?" Wei Chen asked in return.

"Hmm?"

Mo Xingyao thought back to their past interactions.

Indeed... she couldn’t remember her husband ever confirming it.

"That’s true. You never confirmed it, but you never corrected the misunderstanding either," Mo Xingyao agreed.

"Of course I didn’t correct it! That misunderstanding was useful for keeping a lot of fools from coming to cause trouble for me. It’s much less of a hassle that way."

Wei Chen shrugged before continuing.

"Think about it. What would happen if I told everyone I was just a nobody or merely an employee of the Underworld Palace? I bet there’d be a line of people wanting to challenge me long enough to stretch all the way from here to the city gate! I’m sure there’d be an entire army of your admirers trying to crash our wedding. Or some retard would challenge me to a duel every day, demanding that you break up with me if I lost!"

Wei Chen said this with a humorous smile.

But to Mo Xingyao, what Wei Chen described was actually the most likely scenario if people believed her husband was just some nobody in the Underworld Palace.

An employee?

That sounded like the sort of nobody the Underworld Palace wouldn’t even bother frowning over, someone it could replace whenever it wanted.

Wait... something wasn’t right here.

Mo Xingyao suddenly remembered the first shock Wei Chen had given her.

His cultivation was absurd. He had even absorbed thirty million spirit stones stored in the vault beneath the cultivation room.

It shouldn’t have been possible, but Wei Chen had actually done it that day.

That kind of cultivation technique... wasn’t something one would teach to a ’mere employee’!

After that, her husband had pulled out a relic from an unknown era that had given her father an epiphany and helped him break through in his sword technique!

That wasn’t something a mere employee could just pull out!

At the very least, she wouldn’t give an employee that kind of treasure to flaunt!

Absolutely not! Even if it were her own father, she would still have to think about it all day before making such a decision!

Furthermore, from her perspective, there was a clear rule among the major sects and clans. If Wei Chen truly weren’t important and was merely a ’normal employee,’ as he claimed, the Underworld Lord would have already corrected the misunderstanding.

Such matters were taken very seriously among sects. Even the misunderstanding that someone was the young master of a small sect had to be addressed quickly, let alone a misunderstanding involving a hidden ancient force like the Underworld Palace.

Didn’t this mean that the Underworld Lord had tacitly approved of her husband’s status as the young master of the Underworld Palace?

Mo Xingyao glanced at her husband.

He still wore the expression of someone who believed he had fooled the entire world with a clever little prank and gotten away with it.

Yet it seemed her husband remained oblivious, still thinking that his boss, no, the Underworld Lord himself, was simply an easygoing person.

But people with such high status were rarely as easygoing as they claimed to be.

If they appeared easygoing, it usually meant they had a hidden agenda. Alternatively, they might simply want others to believe they were easygoing so that everyone would lower their guard.

Mo Xingyao looked at Dream Butterfly, who seemed to have noticed the same thing. Her good sister nodded subtly toward her.

"Whatever, Husband. Just... don’t be surprised if one day the Underworld Lord officially names you his successor."

Mo Xingyao said this with a mischievous smile as she patted her husband’s arm.

Hearing this, Wei Chen couldn’t help laughing.

"Pfft! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That’s impossible! He wouldn’t do that! There’s no way he’d do that!"

Wei Chen slowly suppressed his laughter, shaking his head.

"Just don’t spread that around, okay? Even though my boss is a chill dude, this kind of misunderstanding about me being his successor isn’t funny or insignificant. He might not appreciate it."

Seeing how utterly oblivious her husband was, Mo Xingyao couldn’t help letting out a sigh.

"Being a young master is fine, but being a successor is going too far? What kind of logic is that?" Mo Xingyao asked in exasperation.

"It’s because being a young master is just being a young master. It’s a title without any real weight behind it. Plenty of people call themselves young masters, but their lives remain insignificant because they haven’t achieved anything extraordinary. And plenty of young masters never become the successors of their forces or clans."

Wei Chen paused briefly before giving her an example.

"Some clans have ten young masters because their patriarch was quite enthusiastic about making backups. Do you really think all ten of them are going to become successors?"

Wei Chen offered this as his reasoning.

That was why, in his eyes, the title of ’young master’ was insignificant and not worth mentioning.

Hearing her husband’s reasoning, Mo Xingyao couldn’t help but roll her eyes. This guy truly had no common sense!
