How to Live Comfortably as an Abandoned Prince
Chapter 346
Chapter 346. The Long, Long Night of the Mage Tower (2)
Bang! Bang!
The lodging where the imperial envoy was staying shook as if it were about to be torn apart.
The forceful knocking at the door echoed relentlessly.
“…Enter.”
From beyond the door came Arteo’s cold voice.
As if they had been waiting for those words, the door swung open and the Mage Tower’s mages poured inside.
“What is the meaning of this disturbance?”
Arteo’s voice was low and quiet, yet the pressure contained within it was enough to freeze the air in the room.
The mage who appeared to be their leader bowed his head.
“With all due respect, Your Highness. We must conduct a search inside.”
“A search? For what reason?”
“The culprit who stole the Mage Tower’s precious research materials is hiding within the tower. Even the quarters where the imperial envoy is staying cannot be exempted…”
The mage’s voice trailed off.
It was difficult to even utter the words “searching a royal’s lodging.”
But he soon steeled himself.
This was a direct order from the Acting Mage Tower Master, Lord Aaron.
“We have received explicit instructions from the Acting Mage Tower Master to search even the imperial envoy’s quarters. The situation is urgent, so we ask for your cooperation, Your Highness.”
The moment those words were spoken, a menacing wave of mana surged from Arteo’s entire body.
Whooo—
A genius who had joined the Imperial Mage Corps before even graduating from the Academy.
Though overshadowed by the overwhelming talent of the 9th Prince, Leon, Arteo was also counted among the Empire’s foremost mages.
His high-purity mana was powerful enough to make even the Mage Tower’s elite mages falter.
“So you dare to search a royal’s lodging?”
The air sank heavily.
Overwhelmed by his mana, the mages unconsciously took a step back.
Arteo’s voice was cold and heavy, like tempered steel.
“And this is the lodging of an envoy that personally came here for an exchange meeting? One might say the Mage Tower is openly challenging the Imperial Family.”
Just as the mages’ faces were beginning to pale under his razor-sharp presence, a gentle voice came from down the corridor.
“Please calm your anger, Your Highness.”
Aaron Daryu emerged from the darkness.
He wore a flawless smile, showing not the slightest trace of agitation.
Arteo’s icy gaze turned toward Aaron.
Their eyes clashed in midair.
“The situation was so urgent that my subordinates committed an act of rudeness. I ask for your magnanimous forgiveness.”
Though Aaron apologized politely on the surface, there was not a hint of submission in his crimson eyes.
Not only was he unfazed by Arteo’s pressure, he even seemed to be enjoying the situation.
“In truth, the culprit who took the research materials has even kidnapped the gravely ill Mage Tower Master. If we do not find him quickly, the Master’s life will be in danger, so…”
Arteo sneered inwardly.
‘He speaks well.’
Having already witnessed Aaron’s true nature through two regressions, Arteo knew this was all an elaborate performance.
Aaron’s objective was obvious.
Using the pretext of the Mage Tower Master’s abduction, he intended to search the entire tower and locate the 6th Prince.
‘Searching the imperial envoy’s lodging must be part of that plan. He even considered the possibility that they are hiding here.’
Stopping Aaron’s search here would be the worst possible move.
It would be no different from openly advertising that he had something to hide.
“…Hah.”
Arteo deliberately let out a deep sigh and spoke as if granting permission reluctantly.
“Very well. Search to your heart’s content. But if you find nothing, you will pay an appropriate price. Even the Mage Tower will not escape punishment for insulting the Imperial Family.”
“Of course, Your Highness. Thank you.”
A satisfied smile crept onto Aaron’s lips.
The moment Arteo gave his consent, the mages scattered throughout the lodging as if they had been waiting for it.
They searched under the beds, inside the wardrobes, even the smallest cracks in the ceiling.
With his arms crossed, Arteo silently observed the scene.
After finishing the search of the 2nd Prince’s quarters, the mages did not stop.
Their next destination was the 7th Princess Inette’s room.
Arteo’s eyebrow twitched upward.
“You would be wise not to enter there. I warn you.”
Aaron’s instincts whispered to him.
This place was the most suspicious of all.
He could sense faint but unfamiliar traces of mana.
“Even the Princess’s quarters are no exception.”
Without so much as knocking, Aaron flung the door open.
“!”
Inside, however, there was no one.
Only the 7th Princess Inette, looking as though she had just awakened, stared at them in shock.
“What do you think you are doing?! Do you have any idea whose room this is?!”
Fwoosh!
With Inette’s fury, crimson flames erupted from her entire body.
The temperature in the room soared instantly, and the hems of the mages’ robes began to scorch.
“P-Princess! Please calm down, it is not that—!”
The flustered mages tried to explain, but Inette had no intention of listening.
“How dare you barge in without permission? You are all dead.”
Thud! Smack!
She charged at the mages and began to beat them down mercilessly.
Before they could even cast a spell, the fierce punches and kicks sent the Mage Tower’s elite mages sprawling helplessly.
‘That is the first time I have ever seen such a violent Princess…’
Even Aaron stood there blankly, overwhelmed by her ferocity.
From behind him came Arteo’s mocking voice.
“I told you it would be better not to enter.”
Hearing his sneer, Aaron quietly closed his mouth.
And at that very moment—
Taking advantage of the commotion Inette had caused, Radel’s group quietly slipped out of the envoy’s lodging.

After Aaron and the mages withdrew, Radel’s group secretly regrouped.
“There was a place like this?”
Inette’s eyes widened as she entered Armandy’s hidden hideout.
Perhaps because she had just beaten down the Mage Tower’s elite mages with her bare hands, she looked oddly refreshed.
Gusto followed her inside, surveying the secret space without lowering his guard.
A small storage room bathed in a warm glow.
It was a space filled with traces of Armandy’s childhood.
Then Gusto’s gaze fixed on an old piece of paper pinned to one wall.
A portrait of the 9th Prince, Leon Silvert Cretian.
Beneath it were lines written in an immature hand, overflowing with reverence.
‘The Great Incarnation of the Dragon, Lord Leon.’
A faint realization passed over Gusto’s otherwise expressionless face.
“This is an unvarnished record of your past devotion to the 9th Prince.”
“Kyaaaah!”
At that single remark, a desperate scream burst from Armandy’s mouth as he had just finished laying his master down.
In his haste to escape, he had failed to clean up the darkest chapter of his past.
He rushed at the speed of light to block the wall with his body, but it was already too late.
Inette clicked her tongue in disbelief.
“Well, you are a magic supremacist. Of course you would be a Leon fanatic. Still, this is a bit much. What is this ‘Chronicle of Leon’ supposed to be?”
Armandy’s face flushed red and blue in rapid succession.
For a moment, he even thought that being caught and killed by Aaron might have been less humiliating.
As if fanning the flames, Radel casually asked Inette,
“Do not your followers go this far?”
“Just imagining it gives me chills! Absolutely not!”
Rubbing her goosebumped arms, Inette stopped when she noticed Sylvan lying sprawled on the floor.
Sylvan was curled up, snoring softly in deep sleep.
It was hard to believe he was the dangerous being who had nearly shaken the Mage Tower just moments ago.
“…He is completely a child.”
Inette muttered helplessly as she looked at Sylvan’s peaceful face.
Silence settled over the storage room.
Only the flame of the magic lamp burned quietly.
Gusto stood silently at Radel’s side.
Armandy gently wiped his sleeping master Helio’s forehead with a damp cloth.
A brief peace.
Yet everyone knew it was not over.
The night was far from finished.
The silence was broken by Radel.
He looked at Inette and Gusto and asked the question that had been on his mind from the beginning.
“By the way, why did you two come along as part of the imperial envoy?”
“Because of you!”
Inette’s voice was filled with sheer disbelief.
Her eyes seemed to ask if he truly did not know.
Gusto also spoke, calm but firm.
“There is someone inside the Mage Tower who is targeting Your Highness’s life.”
Gusto explained what had happened at the temple.
Assassins who had infiltrated to kill the unconscious 8th Prince.
After capturing and interrogating them, they had obtained a decisive confession that the Mage Tower was behind it.
Listening to their story, Radel nodded.
“I see.”
“Once we learned that the one who sent the assassins was here, we searched for a way to enter the Mage Tower with Her Highness.”
“And then we heard the imperial envoy was going to the Mage Tower. It was a perfect opportunity.”
Inette added smugly.
But her golden eyes soon darkened with worry.
“Sending assassins even to the temple is no ordinary move. Then again, it is not like there are only one or two people who want you dead.”
As she spoke, Inette cast a wary glance at the 2nd Prince, Arteo.
Arteo remained silent.
“Anyway, we figured this was not something you could handle alone.”
Her words carried genuine concern.
A faint smile appeared on Radel’s lips.
“It was probably the Acting Mage Tower Master.”
“The Acting Mage Tower Master? Why would he target you?”
“I think his real objective was the 6th Prince.”
“What?”
Radel shrugged.
“He probably planned to use the 6th Prince to seize power.”
At that moment, Arteo, who had been silent until then, spoke in a heavy voice.
The horrifying memories of his previous lives were etched into his tone.
“…He intended to become the 6th Prince himself.”
The grotesque scene he had witnessed in the second past.
Aaron wielding both the great demon’s demonic energy and the 6th Prince’s Ability while inhabiting the 6th Prince’s body.
With the power of a great demon and the 6th Prince’s body in his grasp, he had been nothing short of an unstoppable calamity.
Hearing Arteo’s words, Radel nodded.
“We have to stop Aaron.”
At that very moment, light burst from the book tucked at Radel’s side.
Bang!
The Spirit of the Library returned to its true form and shouted irritably.
“Stop him, you say?! We are hopelessly outmatched! At this rate, we will be discovered and wiped out!”
The Mage Tower’s senior mages were all among the Empire’s finest.
Even with the Imperial Mage Corps present, the small number that came as an envoy could not possibly take on the entire Mage Tower.
They needed another way.
As everyone fell into silence, the Spirit of the Library, who had been floating about, suddenly froze as if it had sensed something.
“Huh? Wait. This aura is—!”
The spirit shot toward Inette and shouted.
“Take out what you are carrying!”
“What? What are you talking about?”
“There is an object with an extraordinary presence!”
“…Do not tell me, this?”
Flustered, Inette rummaged through her clothes and pulled out the staff she had received from the Emperor.
The staff was emitting a gentle warmth, as if responding to the Mage Tower’s mana.
The Spirit of the Library grew visibly excited at the sight of Inette’s staff.
“No doubt about it. A Great Spirit of Fire!”
