How You Can Sue Me for My Crimes in Dreams
Chapter 340: Bizarre! Bizarre! Bizarre
Zhang Liang shook his head.
After a pause, he added,
“We have surveillance footage to prove it.”
“There’s a camera in the fifth-floor hallway. And at the bar, where this all started, multiple witnesses can confirm they didn’t see what he described that day.”
“Plus, the surveillance footage from the bar backs up what I’m saying.”
‘Weird, so weird…’
‘Let’s say the victim and the killer knew each other. Why, then, would the victim immediately assume the figure in the distance was a ghost?’
‘And why couldn’t anyone else see it? Yet the four of them could!’
‘Anything involving human intervention is bound to leave a trace.’
‘But there’s nothing here…’
‘Bystanders couldn’t see a thing, not even when the victim pointed right at it.’
‘What on earth did the killer do? What was their method?’
‘You have to understand, the police rely on clues left at the scene to investigate a case.’
‘That’s why most criminals trying to escape justice focus on creating an alibi, removing themselves and any connection to the scene.’
This case was different.
‘He didn’t leave a single clue!’
‘No witness testimony, no physical evidence. You couldn’t even see it when it was pointed out to you. It doesn’t exist on a physical level!’
‘In a situation like this, even if we find the killer, what can we do if they just deny it?’
‘The most crucial part is…’
‘How did they do it?!’
‘Forcing someone to commit suicide is undoubtedly the perfect method for a Murder, but people cling to life. If you can live, and no one is physically forcing you, what reason is there to kill yourself?’
Xu Huo couldn’t figure it out.
After a moment of thought, he spoke.
“Let’s look at the surveillance footage.”
‘Xu Huo had to see for himself if the footage… truly captured no one else!’
“Okay. Gang Zi, you stay here.”
Zhang Liang nodded.
After leaving Zhao Gang behind, Zhang Liang, Sun Jian, and Xu Huo left the room and headed for the tent below.
Exhaling a puff of white air, he pushed aside the tent flap.
Xu Huo looked inside at Li Jianye, who was sitting at a computer desk lost in thought, and said,
“Pull up the surveillance records for Wang Wei at the bar and in the residential building.”
Li Jianye nodded.
A moment later, an image appeared on the screen. The scene was filled with flashing, colorful lights and crowded with so many people it was suffocating.
It was the bar.
The footage showed Wang Wei and his three friends dancing wildly, but it wasn’t long before…
Wang Wei seemed to see something. He suddenly froze, terror filling his eyes. He rubbed them fiercely, then looked again, appearing confused.
“Zoom in on where he was just looking.”
Xu Huo’s brow furrowed.
Li Jianye moved the mouse and zoomed in.
There was… nothing there.
They replayed it several times, but the result was always the same: nothing.
Xu Huo’s heart sank. “Switch to the hallway footage.”
Li Jianye nodded and pulled up another video.
This video was even more baffling.
The camera angle was from above, at the end of the hallway. Before long, Wang Wei’s figure appeared. He ran down the hall to his door, frantically fumbling for his keys, but couldn’t seem to get them out.
A moment later, it was as if something had caught up to him.
Wang Wei turned to face the empty stairwell and began kowtowing repeatedly, as if someone was standing right in front of him.
But the problem was…
“No one’s there.”
Xu Huo’s brow furrowed as he uttered the three words.
That’s right.
No matter which video, which day, or which state he was in.
A second person never appeared on the surveillance footage…
There was no evidence a killer had ever been there!
The footage was ironclad proof. On a physical level, it was undeniable. You couldn’t just claim the killer invented an invisibility cloak to avoid being filmed.
‘So…’
‘What on earth did the victim see?’
Li Jianye was once again lost in thought.
“Take the body for a drug test.”
“Hair, blood, urine—test everything. Be thorough.”
Xu Huo said, voicing a theory.
Zhang Liang nodded. “The police are already on it. We’re just waiting for the results.”
Cases like this, that seem to involve the supernatural…
…are usually…
…related to drugs. After investigating the scene and hitting a dead end, the police went ahead and ordered the tests.
It’s a routine procedure.
Of course, “routine” doesn’t mean “lax.” On the contrary, if you’ve used drugs, there’s a 99.9% chance it will be detected!
‘But…’
…
…
「Noon. 11:30 AM.」
Three test reports lay in front of them. They all fell silent.
After a long while, Li Jianye finally spoke slowly.
“According to the forensic analysis report, the deceased, Wang Wei…”
“…shows no signs of drug use.”
“All tests came back normal!”
‘Normal tests, no connection to drugs…’
“Then what’s the deal with this ghost!?”
Sun Jian was completely losing his mind. Forget the Capital City, you’d be hard-pressed to find a handful of cases like this in the entire country!
‘No record of drug use… Does that mean… the ghost is real!?’
‘But no one else can see this ghost, and this ghost killed Wang Wei, hounded him to his death…’
‘It’s right here, but only four people can see it. No one else can.’
‘Weird, so weird…’
‘This case has gotten bizarre!’
‘This is a perfect crime in the traditional sense!’
‘Using a ghost to kill someone… The killer…’
‘How did they do it!?’
