Chapter 1228: Chapter 104: A Group of Dedicated Socialites!
In Valley Calendar 1364, Duncan’s first social experiment began.
After detailed calculations using his Divine Format power, the Power of Faith provided by devout believers was found to be entirely sufficient to cover the Divine Technique consumption of their daily medical needs, even more than enough. And once the base number of believers expanded, basic medical保障 could be extended to the vast majority of believers, as long as they did not cast Divine Techniques above 4th-ring.
It just so happens that "Remove Disease" is a 3rd-ring Divine Technique in this country, and counts as one of the benchmark Divine Techniques for mid–low-tier Priests.
—"Remove Disease (3rd-ring): Remove Disease can cure all conventional diseases afflicting the target. This Spell can also kill parasites, including some oozes’ parasitic effects, but certain special diseases cannot be removed by this Spell and can only be counteracted by Spellcasters above a certain level.
Because this Spell’s duration is instantaneous, it cannot prevent the target from being infected by the same disease in the future; it can only cure the Spell’s target at the present moment."
Professionals are very strong, and Warriors’ physical attributes are even stronger, so it’s hard for them to contract diseases.
But ordinary people still get sick; however, the vast majority of diseases can be removed through this Divine Technique, and its casting ring is not high. As long as a Priest is level 5, they can cast it. The key question is whether the Divine Church can push this grace down to ordinary people, especially those at the bottom of society, because the rich and nobles can afford to hire Priests to cast Divine Techniques.
The upper class of this country plays very wild and very dirty, precisely because they don’t have to worry about any disease.
They can also afford Restoration.
Using this Divine Technique on the rich and nobles might just be for curing some disease they got from playing themselves rotten, whereas using it on the poor at the bottom of society means a 3rd-ring Divine Technique saving a life and a shattered family.
If you combine it with Druids’ herbal medicine treatment, then the demand for Divine Techniques can be further reduced, and the Power of Faith expenditure ratio can be compressed to an astonishing degree.
But you can’t calculate it purely like that.
Because the Power of Faith is concentrated in the hands of the Divine Spirit; the Divine Spirit eats a portion first, and after being full, then bestows Divine Techniques to the clergy, and only at the very end are the Church clergy spreading them among the believers. This tiered distribution model is bound to result in believers at the bottom of the pyramid getting a very small share of Divine Technique resources.
Although they are the cornerstone providing the Power of Faith, they themselves do not have the qualification to use Divine Techniques.
Authority—the ability to cast Spells—is highly concentrated in the hands of the Church’s upper echelon, so if the Divine Spirit does not act, then the Church is essentially a Divine Technique–monopoly consortium.
Because Divine Techniques can be directly exchanged for money.
Duncan’s Church is still very small in scale, with no real combat demand yet. When combat personnel appear later, the demand and consumption of Divine Techniques will both increase dramatically; plus Duncan wants to expand his Divine Country, promote Prayers, and so on. Overall, the Power of Faith in the early stage is relatively tight and insufficient.
This makes it necessary to expand the Church’s scale, using a larger believer base to ensure a balance between "strategic resources" and "daily welfare."
The complexity of this is far more troublesome than running a company.
Even with Divine Format power, with massive Divine Format computational capacity, it is still extremely tedious, and he also has to respond to prayers. So quite a few Divine Spirits are passive and slack off, or simply only eat and never give, caring only about the Priest class of the Church and the core believers.
Worse still are those terrorist-like Furious Gods and dark Divine Spirits, who regularly threaten Mortals into sacrifices and offerings, and then don’t need to pay anything back while still being able to trample them.
They enjoy only authority and take on no obligations.
This is universal among Divine Spirits; some of them can even reproduce, and their second-generation Divine offspring are born lofty, many of them only enjoying power and status.
This is the greatest problem of this country.
The beings who hold the strongest power, the highest rank, and immortal life are far from bearing the obligations and responsibilities they should.
The key point is they won’t grow old and die; not dying means they will forever press down on the heads of the masses.
In Duncan’s words—they lack a king’s sense of duty!
They don’t have it.
Then Duncan will!
Because the King of Kings is born bearing the expectations of the countless masses.
As long as Duncan is not busy playing with women, he’s actually quite competent at getting things done, and of course he’s also very skilled at the former.
This is a social experiment.
Because the scale of Duncan’s Church is currently limited to the small-scale Priestesses following him, mainly concentrated in the low-combat-strength pleasure cult, and centered on the Mother of Great Bliss who is fond of enjoyment, it still doesn’t count as truly activating the entire Divine Church system.
The Mother of Great Bliss cannot bear such a heavy burden; at best, her ability is equivalent to that of an Archbishop.
At present, Duncan needs to further test the expenditure ratio between Power of Faith and the granting of Divine Techniques, and, based on the Power of Faith provided by believers, give back corresponding social welfare, while also incorporating certain rites of strengthening faith cohesion, ascetic practices, and so on into Church rituals.
And all this cannot function without the operation of Divine Format power. As a Divine Format being with Demigod Power, Duncan can only support small-scale Missionary work around the vicinity of Selgante.
Next comes expanding the Power of Faith; Duncan activated a Wildness aspect of Essence cohesion and tried to recruit some Druids.
At the same time, he also began contacting the Mother Earth Church that supports farming and horticulture, and the Forest Goddess Melikai, who supports animal husbandry.
To develop the basic productive force of "agriculture," there is no getting around Druids no matter what.
