I Accidentally Built a Harem at the Beast Academy

Chapter 64: It’s Not Possible to Hide From a Doctor

  • Next Chapter

Killian’s eyes darted across the printed lines of the blood test result.

Standing on the other side with the monitors, the doctor kept his head bowed submissively. According to the paper in Killian’s hands, Blair Willows was undeniably human. She possessed a perfectly common blood type, and there were zero impurities or anomalies in her system.

Killian lowered the paper, his purple eyes narrowing at the doctor. "And the poison? How does it simply disappear?"

"Well, Your Highness," the doctor murmured, keeping his gaze firmly fixed on the floor. "It is a possibility that she has a high, natural tolerance built up over time."

Daemus let out a triumphant scoff from the side of the bed. He crossed his arms over his broad chest. "I told you so."

Killian said nothing. He stared at the doctor’s bowed head, his jaw tight. He was unconvinced by the explanation, but without proof to the contrary, arguing the point was a waste of breath.

"Leave us," Killian ordered coldly.

The doctor didn’t need to be told twice. He offered a quick, jerky bow and scurried out of the emergency suite as fast as his legs could carry him.

Daemus watched the door swing shut, then turned his attention back to the Snake Prince. Killian was still glaring at the printed results, his eyes scanning the same lines over and over again.

"What’s got your panties in a bunch now?" Daemus asked, rolling his eyes. "You saw the results. She just has a strong immune system."

"You are probably too dim-witted to notice," Killian stated. "But that doctor was suspicious."

"Because he did his job?"

"Because he smiled too much," Killian corrected, looking up. "I do not trust people who smile too much. A human who smiles that much in the presence of beasts is even worse."

Killian stepped away from the monitors, pacing slowly at the foot of Blair’s bed. "We put them in charge of running some of our most important facilities because they understand the technology better than we do. The beastmen still have years of learning ahead to catch up to them. But humans are not loyal to us, Daemus. We are their captors. We would be stupid to trust them."

Daemus let out a sigh, leaning back against his chair. "I never took you for the paranoid type, Killian. Humans care way more about survival than they do about revenge. He was probably just smiling so you wouldn’t bite his head off."

"There are ways to accomplish both," Killian hummed, his gaze dropping back to the paper in his hand. "Not all problems are solved with an outright war."

Killian pulled a pen from his pocket. He drew a circle around a word.

He held the paper up for the Wolf Prince to see. The word ’blood’ was spelt ’blod’.

Daemus squinted at the circle, then gave a dismissive shrug. "So what? The computer made a mistake. They all make mistakes."

Killian scoffed, a bitter sound of disbelief. "How stupid are you? Computers do not make spelling mistakes. They output whatever the user inputs." Killian tossed the paper onto the tray next to him. "Which means these results were typed. They were tampered with."

Just as the words left Killian’s mouth, a loud clatter echoed from above.

The metal grate of the ceiling vent suddenly gave way. It swung down, and a figure tumbled out of the dark ductwork, crashing hard onto the floor.

Daemus instantly jumped to his feet, stepping protectively in front of Blair’s bed.

The man on the floor groaned. His white lab coat was wrinkled, his hair was a ruffled mess, and a patch of dark, wet blood thoroughly soaked the back of his collar.

It was the original doctor.

Ignoring his obvious pain, the doctor frantically scrambled to his knees. "Your Highnesses! I apologize! I am so sorry for just now returning!" he babbled, his hands shaking as he looked up at the two towering princes. "I was struck in the back of the head! Someone locked me in a supply closet! I didn’t see who did it, but I swear I am not lying!"

He didn’t need to convince Killian.

The Crown Prince’s face darkened into a mask of fury. He pulled his phone from his pocket, his thumb moving swiftly across the screen.

Killian raised the phone to his ear. The line rang.

Then, Killian froze.

He lowered the phone slowly. He looked at Daemus. Daemus looked back at him.

"What was his name?" Killian asked.

Daemus furrowed his brows, thinking hard. "I... I don’t know. Did he have a nametag?"

"What did his face look like?" Killian pressed, his grip on the phone tightening until his knuckles turned white.

"He had brown hair," Daemus offered weakly.

"Half the human population has brown hair!" Killian snapped.

The realization hit them both simultaneously. Neither prince had cared enough to ask the lesser for his name. To their eyes, the human’s features had been so incredibly plain, so painfully boring and average, that they hadn’t bothered to commit a single detail of his face to memory. He was a ghost.

Killian was furious. His massive ego felt like it had just been slammed against a brick wall. How could someone as brilliant and calculating as him get played so easily?

Taking a deep breath, Killian forced the boiling rage down. He commanded his composure to return.

Within ten minutes, Killian had hospital security drag every single human doctor and nurse into Blair’s suite.

The room was packed tight. The terrified medical staff huddled together, trembling under the terrifying gaze of the Snake Prince. Some of the nurses were already quietly praying under their breath. A few dared to sneak glances toward the hospital bed, where the Wolf Prince was currently holding the unconscious patient protectively against his side. The staff recognized her instantly; Blair Willows, the human genius, was practically a celebrity.

Killian paced in front of the lineup, making no effort to hide the disgust in his gaze.
