Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Someone Is Trying To Mess Up With Her Superbike

"We have already taken the cash upfront, haven’t we? What else is there to worry about?" Another snapped back.

"But if something goes seriously wrong, we will be dead meat!"

"Relax! No one is ever going to find out about this. We have already completely dismantled the CCTV cameras in this section of the lot."

"Fine, fine... Let me just puncture the tyres and cut the line, then."

Qiao Meixia watched the video play out without a single flicker of emotion on her face. A second later, her own sharp shout echoed through the speaker.

The recorded students instantly froze, panicked, and bolted away from her bike.

Qiao Meixia’s eyes narrowed into icy slits as she replayed the captured dialogue in her head.

This was not a simple high school prank or a petty attempt to cause trouble. This was a deliberate, premeditated plot to bring about her death.

Someone had explicitly paid those students to sabotage her superbike, fully intending to trigger a high-speed accident on the main road. Had she not walked up at that exact second, they might very well have succeeded. By the time she realised something was mechanically wrong while cruising down the highway, it would have been far too late.

Unfortunately, the boys had not mentioned their employer’s name in the recording. They had only discussed receiving a cash payment, meaning she still did not have definitive proof of who was pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

Whoever orchestrated the attack had clearly taken careful precautions to avoid exposure. Even though the hired students knew the school’s CCTV cameras were down, they had still worn hoodies and masks to hide their faces.

It seemed they were well-versed in this sort of criminal activity. Perhaps they had carried out similar dirty work in the past, which would explain why they were so thorough about masking their identities and cutting the power to the cameras.

Qiao Meixia leaned back in her desk chair, staring at the frozen frame on her screen for a long moment.

"Well... I suppose I really should be a bit more careful from now on." Qiao Meixia muttered softly to herself.

Since someone was so eager to play dangerous games with her life, she was more than happy to play along. However, she would be running the game entirely on her own terms.

She was never the type to sit back passively and allow enemies to target her without striking back twice as hard. If the mastermind wanted to orchestrate trouble for her, she would make sure they learned the hard way that poking her was the single worst decision of their life.

With that cold thought settled, Qiao Meixia’s fingers flew across her keyboard once more.

Breaching the internal server of First Hannan High School’s official online forum, she uploaded an isolated audio file containing only the students’ panicked conversation, intentionally cropping out the visual feed. She wanted their distinct voices to be broadcast crystal clear across the campus network without revealing their physical faces or giving them an immediate clue as to where the recording had originated.

After uploading the raw file, she programmed a custom script to automatically pin the thread to the top of the forum board the exact millisecond school opened the following morning.

She was genuinely looking forward to seeing how those boys, and their shadow employer, would react when they heard their own incriminating plot exposed to the entire student body. More importantly, she wanted to watch them squirm in sheer panic as they desperately tried to figure out who had recorded them.

Only then would the real entertainment begin.

Having finished setting up her trap, Qiao Meixia shut down her laptop, grabbed a fresh towel, and headed into the bathroom to take a hot shower.

It was almost time for dinner.

Qiao Meixia descended the grand staircase to the ground floor and walked toward the dining room. At that exact moment, the front doors opened, and Jiang Lukang and Jiang Suhan stepped inside, having just returned from the office.

Jiang Yanna, who had been lingering on the second-floor landing, hurried downstairs the instant she heard their entry. She immediately threw her arms around Jiang Lukang’s arm, putting on her absolute sweetest, most spoiled persona.

"Dad, welcome home! You must be so exhausted after working hard at the company all day!" Jiang Yanna cooed delightfully.

"I was feeling tired, but now that I am home and get to see your sweet face, it feels like all that hard work was entirely worth it." Jiang Lukang chuckled warmly, gently patting Jiang Yanna’s hair.

Jiang Yanna shot a subtle, triumphant glance toward Qiao Meixia out of the corner of her eye. She was desperate to catch a drop of jealousy or resentment on Qiao Meixia’s face as she flaunted her affectionate bond with Jiang Lukang.

However, Jiang Yanna was destined to be sorely disappointed.

Qiao Meixia did not even bother casting a single glance in their direction. Instead, she remained comfortably leaned against a pillar, completely absorbed in her smartphone, looking infinitely more entertained by whatever was playing on her screen than by the theatrical display of father-daughter bonding happening nearby.

Jiang Lukang caught sight of Qiao Meixia as well. He paused, waiting for a moment in expectation, fully assuming she would greet him or at least offer a basic acknowledgement of his return. Yet his biological daughter remained completely silent, not even deeming it worth her time to spare him a passing glance.

Seeing her total indifference, Jiang Lukang could not help but feel a surge of sharp displeasure. After all, he was the head of the household who had just returned from a long workday, yet Qiao Meixia acted as though his presence was utterly nonexistent.

"Meixia... What on earth are you watching so intently?" Jiang Suhan asked, stepping away from his father and walking over to her with genuine curiosity.

Qiao Meixia did not bother answering him verbally. She simply held her phone out slightly, continuing to watch the short clip on loop without any intention of explaining why it had caught her interest.

Jiang Suhan leaned over slightly to peer at her screen. It turned out to be a ridiculous, viral comedy video of a pet making a complete fool of itself.

However, what sent a sudden wave of laughter through Jiang Suhan was not actually the funny video itself. It was the hilarious absurdity of watching his younger sister stare at a wildly comedic clip with the exact same stone-cold, completely deadpan expression she wore everywhere else, as though she were reviewing a dry financial report rather than something hilarious.

The sheer, staggering contrast between the absurd video and her completely unbothered face was simply too hilarious to resist.

Jiang Suhan could not control himself and burst into a sudden, genuine fit of laughter right there in the hallway.

Jiang Lukang and Jiang Yanna exchanged bewildered, confused glances, completely baffled as to why Jiang Suhan had suddenly burst out into such sudden laughter.

Qiao Meixia’s expression flickered with mild surprise as well. In her mind, she genuinely believed the short clip she had casually shown Jiang Suhan was top-tier comedy. Naturally, she assumed that must have been the exact reason he had laughed so heartily. She glanced down at her phone screen one more time, tilting her head slightly as she silently wondered if the video was truly as hilariously absurd as he seemed to think.

"Eldest Brother, what on earth are you laughing at so suddenly?" Jiang Yanna asked, injecting a note of sweet, curious innocence into her voice.

"Oh, it’s nothing." Jiang Suhan replied smoothly after his amusement finally tapered off. He gave his head a small, dismissive shake before speaking up to the rest of the table. "Anyway, let’s head to the dining room. I am completely starving."

"Dinner has been served." Butler Jun announced respectfully from the archway.

With that cue, the family stood up and made their way into the dining hall to take their seats around the large table.

Feng Lan did not arrive until a few minutes later. Stepping into the dining room, she swept her eyes across the seats and immediately noticed that one person was missing. Frowning in irritation, she turned her attention toward Butler Jun standing by the sideboard.

"Butler Jun, where is Chinan?" Feng Lan asked, a note of worry colouring her tone.

"Young Master Chinan explicitly instructed that he would not be joining the family for dinner tonight." Butler Jun answered with a polite bow.

"Did he happen to mention why?" Jiang Yanna chimed in quickly, throwing on a mask of deep, sisterly concern for Jiang Chinan.

"No, madam, he did not." Butler Jun replied.
